Remember not too long ago, when people thought Kyle Larson was overated and got the nickname Yung Money? He was starting to dominate in California racing mostly sprint cars and people said "well he is only good in CA." Boy did he prove everyone wrong! Well, all of us local CA fans knew how good he was and he sure went onto do great things. Super proud of our guy and excited he will be racing soon in CA in his midget.  Smile

I remember people constantly trolling about how "overrated" he was about 10years ago. No matter what he did there was an excuse. Won an outlaw feature it was well he started upfront at a track he raced on a lot, he can only win in CA. Won in Ohio during sprint speedweek and it was Ohio had a waterdown field, he can't win in PA. Went to Knoxville the first time and they said he wouldn't make the field and he won his prelim night and it was because again starting up front as an excuse. Made the feature won the K&N title but only because apparently his team was the only "high" dollar team. Some of the "rich" kid comments were funny too that he was bringing money rides which were debunked very quickly. He got to cup and everyone kept saying he wouldn't win and when he did win he only won a couple races still couldn't win in PA. Then he did win in PA, won more cup races, won Outlaws races but excuses kept coming. Then the past couple of years winning almost 50% of everything he got into, and this year with all of the crown jewels and an undisputed championship. The naysayers kept getting quieter and quieter with each accomplishment. Now people just have to admit they just don't like him instead of saying he is overrated which I don't mind. Like who you like, I was not a fan of Jeff Gordon but I am not jaded enough to say he was overrated and wasnt that good. He was good, i just was not a fan.

I'm 71

NASCAR used to be on TV occasionally back then

They would show parts of races on Wide World of Sports.  10 minutes of racing then the show would go to another sport, come back a little later for an update and if things played out right, come back to NASCAR for the finish.

My thoughts exactly-----except I was a Gordon fan.  Smile

1.  Anyone who still thinks Larson is overrated, is just plain stupid.

2.  Anyone who thought he was overrated 10 years ago, has a terrible eye for racing talent.  I could have taken my 97 year old grandmother to a race 10 years ago and she would have been able to identify his talent----and she's never been to a race.  Open your eyes, or as Nick says, just admit the dislike or hate.

3.  Anyone who hates him, must generally hate life.  In a world of stuck up, snobby, and just plain rude sports superstars, the racing world gives everyone one of the most down to earth human beings one will ever meet.  It's okay to root against him.  It's okay to want your guy to win.  It makes no sense to me how anyone could hate this person.  I guess there is The Chaz and Sammy----but that should be enough for most of you NOT to want to be on that bandwagon of personality.

I agree:  "Simply the Best", just plain incredible what he's done past two years in all the different types of cars.  No one in the the history of motorsports has ever done anything close.  I don't think.  3500 pound stock cars to thousand pound midgets and everything in between and the surface didn't matter.

Yes, Larson is the best and he doesn't have to hit people and knock them out of the way like Dale Sr did!  Dirtiest driver in Nascar history is Dale Sr....by far!!

I remember them days on WWoS. Richard Petty sure had the Aerodynamic advantage with that Super Bird that he use to run... This is back in the day when they would have the Evel Kneivel jumps on from time to time... That "Agony of Defeat" dude that wadded himself up going over the 90 meter Ski Jump at the intro of Wide World of Sports will forever be etched in my head!!! Smile

Loved those Evel Knievel jumpts!  There are some posted on YouTube.  And yes, they left a mark!

He won the 360 race last night in California!  His record speaks for itself!

I think a lot of the problem with some not liking Larson is that many of his supporters are over the top with their support and that turns people on him. I know that is not his fault but I liken it to Cowboy fans. I have said for years that Jerry Jones is the best thing to happen to the NFL in a long time because we have not had to listen to much from Cowboy fans since Jerry decided that he knows more about football than Jimmy Johnson and fired him.

Since I started following racings almost 40 years ago.  I have not seen anyone with this much talent.  Yes, I realize it was close to the end of the careers of AJ and Mario.  But they were way past there prime in the early 80's as far as running anything with a steering wheel.

And Kyle is a great young man to top it off both on and off the track!

I agree.  I'm a fan and supporter of Larson.  Some of the stupid posts and comments made on social media make me cringe.

It is not Facebook, Twitter, instant gram and whatever other piece of garbage there is out there.  Yes, I am here but that is it.  I will never belong to one of those.  This is only a very, very, very small portion compared to those pieces of garbage.

hopefully some of you saw the f1 race yesterday.  incredible ending to an incredible season.  i bring it up here in relation to the points system.  i'm sure there are people out there who think f1 manufactured the tie and the ending.  i just tried to enjoy the whole thing.  everything has to be a conspiracy these days.

the biggest thing f1 needs to clarify is how to handle lapped traffic in those situation.  i don't know how the rules are written word for word.  if they did something different than usual...mercedes has a point.  otherwise mercedes got outsmarted by red bull who must watch enough nascar to know how to handle a safety car.  it was a no win situation for lewis especially the second time since max would have done whatever he didn't do.  there's a chance he might have been able to pit and still stay in front of max though.

great race in general and always makes me think back to the people who say racing is just cars going around and around in a circle.  so much strategy goes on.  you don't get this type of race every week...and i don't think f1 should get into the business of manufacturing them the way nascar does...but it's this type of race that gets you hooked.

I agree with your post.  That was an incredibly dramatic finish and Max drove his a$$ off that last lap.  I'm surprised Lewis didn't throw a block or try to take Max's line away in that corner.

I thought Max was done when he was 20 seconds behind and then Lewis got behind Max's teammate.  That changed the complexion of the race in a few laps.  Lewis rebounded and had the race won until that virtual safety car took over.  Surprised that they got the race restarted - NASCAR would most likely still be sweeping the track, although maybe they would have thrown a red flag and stopped the race.

What does this have to do with Larson?
