I don't disagree with you at all, but a celebrity vs a commoner in those types of situations, the celebrity is never going to win. I never said he should have ignored it, but he could have acknowledged it and as mentioned 100 times before, have the guy thrown out. It isn't about being a pussy and not handling your own business, it is about knowing who you are and being self aware. If he wants to play road house then he should have retired from Nascar immediately and gone to play in the dirt since that is what he wants to do. Again, I like Tony, but he is his own worst enemy when it comes to trouble with the media.

Sorry zach51, I wasn't trying to comment on your post specifically, I had some issues with getting my comment to post....and being a forum idiot. I can build a computer, but other pc related things make me cringe.
Celebrities are always going to attract attention. Not always the attention that they want, but attentino none the less. What made it even bigger was the fact that the announcers were paging for Tony overhead at the Chili Bowl, they paged several times, and then the commotion arose and all of us on the front stretch and in turns 3 and 4 had no clue what was going on, we just thought Tony had worked his way into the stands.

No worries, I wasn't there for the first time in 20 years, usually sit in Section C on the front stretch. Decided to save that vacation time this year to go to Volusia, never been there.

If this guy in the stands is really a off duty cop it shows what is wrong in some police departments. I would not want to be stopped bym this guy on the hi way, he is a nut job if what he said is true. Police are supposed to deflate situations, not inflate them. It sort of shows any idiot can become a cop in some police departments. In 60 years of driving I have been stoped 7 times either as a driver or a passenger. The police were all kind and calm. Out of that I got 2 tickets, one for loud exhast(no muffler) and one for loud dual pipes. Most police are good people, but that guy at Tulsa was a creep.

Don't flip anyone off unless you are a total moron. You offend anyone who sees it.

TULSA, Oklahoma -
The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office has released a brief statement on the Chili Bowl altercation that involved an off-duty deputy.
County sheriff’s deputy Kyle Hess, who was a spectator at the Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa over the weekend, reportedly made obscene gestures at pro racer Tony Stewart.
Witnesses took video as Stewart entered the stands to confront Hess. The two had an exchange of words before security intervened.
The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office told News On 6 on Saturday that it is opening an investigation into the conduct of Hess.
On Friday, TCSO Spokesman Deputy Justin Green emailed this statement:
The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office takes seriously the conduct of its employees, whether on duty or off duty.
While we respect our employees’ rights to free speech, we also expect all of our employees to follow the TCSO’s Code of Ethics which each pledges to uphold as part of their employment and to set an example at all times.

Wow that's quite a stern statement. I was scared for Deputy Hess just reading that.
