Why should he park it? He raced his way into the A and the others who had the same opportunity didn't. He is also donating the money to Kevin Swindell so I don't think he is selfish.

I agree. Rico earned that spot driveing the car to the A main. not a crew member not any one else, so Rico should drive the car no one else if the crew member is such a good wheel man why didn't he drive that car to that starting position in the A? the crew member may be good behind the wheel. but he is not Rico!

Another scenerio... I'll never be good enough to make the A main at Knoxville. So what I'm gonna do is build a team and hire a guy like Jason Meyers to get my car into the A main. Then, I'm gonna slip him a little more money to act like he has a stomach virus before the main. I'll be there helmet in hand ready to start in his place! Brilliant!

Rico earned the spot so Rico should be in the car or park it. Spot should go to the first alternate just like the Friday night A-main.
This is is wrong and can't be justified. If the car is what gets in what's to stop people from hiring drivers just to qualify then the owner with all the money and no talent gets to race the A-main.
The driver earned the spot so it's the driver and hat should face it or lose it. Cut and dry.

This is reason #891 why the pipeline to nascar can't dry up soon enough. The strip-mining of sprint car racing continues.

Come on man. Be realistic.

You make more money running in NASCAR than you do running dirt.

But I thought he was just a grand ole lad that wants to race and isn't about the money? Wait, we better shut up if we arent at the track because we'll be accused of not being worthy enough to comment.

The crew guy oughta stay out there and see what he can do Lol
In all seriousness, I agree that it should be the driver that qualifies. If he pulls out, the car is
DQ'ed and take the next best one. Rico should have at least put in a legitimate driver to run the race.

Why not stick to the actual, real-life situation instead of making up some ridiculous, bizarre nonsense scenarios? The fact that you have to create ridiculous, phony scenarios to be outraged over is a pretty strong indicator that there is nothing wrong whatsoever with the real-life situation.

Reading all the comments on this post people are forgetting that the Knoxville Raceway rules are what's allowing for this to happen. Until Knoxville changes their rules, this scenario could and will happen again. So let's direct our displeasure with this situation at the track. Rico just did what he was ALLOWED to do. He's no dummy and he knows pavement is where the big $$ is. When Knoxville stops this nonsense from happening then you won't even see guys like Rico with conflicting schedules attempt to qualify.......now let me outta here I gotta big race to go watch lol!!

Just stop. The made-up, hypotheitcal nonsense is over the top in this thread. Yea, I am sure hiring ringers, then kicking them out of the car before the Saturday-night A-main is going to be a major problem going forward at a race that pays $150,000 to win.

The best way for Knoxville to handle this is to give Abreu's team the $9500 start money and NOT run the A and take an extra car out of the B.

I'd choose the 3rd briefcase which contains a little respect for sprint car racing and it's crown jewel event.

No chance for Rico to make it. Still didn't even finish K&N race yet. Asphalt came apart. Red for repairs.

So does a driver that has hurt his motor, starts and takes a lap, full well knowing he isn't going to 'race' in the main, but earned his starting spot and the money that goes with it, does he get the same s*** that you all are dishing out? I did this several times when I was racing for points, knowing that if I skipped the main I wasn't going to finish in the top ten and get any points money at the end of the season. Just sayin'
The last line of the National Anthem should be "Let's go Rac'n"
