That's fair enough and I understand what you are saying, but that brings to me the question in relation to your first post. So, why would the Outlaws ( the top tier ) want to mimmick what NZ ( weekend racers ) do for a format? Shouldnt NZ be looking at the way they run their program? They are the best for a reason, maybe if NZ adopted a US style format they wouldn't so out to lunch.

NZ sprintcars maybe well behind the outlaws but there only working with very few tracks & not alot of drivers compared to the states. Having under 10 tracks in NZ compared to 100's in the states makes it easier to learn & have a larger driver pool.  Why not bring your midget drivers over to NZ & watch them get a ass whooping by the NZ built synergy V8 that USAC had to ban because your american built engines cant keep up.

Back to the point there isnt anything wrong with the outlaw format. compare it to world series sprintcars in AUS you time trial top 5 you start from the back around 10th, you can sand bag both heats do very little passing & easily make the top 8 shootout. To much rides on time trials not enough on racing.

There still would be no tire choice Vande77! They are mandated a minimum compound right now because the outlaws listened to hoseheads heroes. If you had to run 1 all night, it would still be the same compound

It works at local tracks like Knoxville.  3 tire compounds to choose from, but you make that choice prior to time trials.  You see guys that time awesome, but go backwards in the feature, and you see guys that time terrible, but move forward in the feature.

Back in the old days of Goodyear, McCreary, Hoosier, I saw Wolfgang run ALL 3 BRANDS on his car at the same time at some tracks.  That was true tire "choice" back then.

But today, there still are choices, the problem is that with the WoO format, your tires only have to last a MAXIMUM of 15 laps (TT, heat, dash) before you can change them for the feature currently (so everyone is running the softest available).  You change that to 40 laps minimum, and it changes the game (some guys will still go with the softs (100's), others with the mediums (200's) and others with the hard (300's).

Obviously you haven't worked at Knoxville for a long time either, as they haven't ran 100, 200 or 300s for 3 years! These were Goodyears. Please do some research before posting next time on a subject.  The reason you are seeing guys come forward and aome go backwards is because some get the set up right and some miss it. Not tire choice, like you think as everyone runs a H15

just because a majority of them run an H15 doesn't mean it's the only one they CAN run.  They have choices, they CHOOSE to run the h15.

Sorry, I don't know the Hoosier tire #'s (I could care less what they are labeled) as the Hoosier tires are similar to the Goodyears (WRG dictated the construction and durometer for the Hoosiers the same as they did the Goodyears).

Is set up a portion of comer's and goer's during the feature? Yep, but I've had drivers TELL ME that they put the wrong tires on for time trials and buried themselves for the night and were lucky the track came to their tire choice and they came forward in the feature.  Tire prep and choice is still important (or the top teams wouldn't have guys that only work on tires).

Its not a we are better than them argument Sam, I fully appreciate the Outlaws are the top dogs.

Im just offering an alternative format that puts more emphasis on actual racing and takes it away from time trials. As Aussie28 says any format that allows a driver to time well then take it easy when its race time is boring. The only time trials that are any good is Haud banging the cush at Eldora and Tulare when its hammer down round the wall and through the turn 1 rut.

Im not sure any of this matters anyway as the Outlaws have an approved format and that is the way it is, packed stands night after night speak for themselves.
