I was once told by a fair board member that the 410 nationals paid for everything for the whole season.

what happen to the weekly show money

360 nationals money

outlaw show money

late model show money

monster truck show money

and I know I missed a few

and Knoxville can't pay a  decent 360 or 305 payout they have the money to complete with any track in the country

That was probably true in teh 80's to mid 90's.

Weekly shows used to be $$ losers (bad $$ losers).  My guess is that now they are close to break-even (when you consider ALL expenses (purse, payroll, insurance, utilities, taxes) vs Revenue.

360 Nationals was  a $$ loser until they moved it to the week before the 410 Nationals.

Outlaw shows have been hit and miss.  They've had Outlaw shows with less people in the stands than a regular Saturday Night (and the year they did the 3 day show in June, they had maybe 500 in the stands on Thursday.  They year they did WoO Late Models and Sprints on back to back nights, they probably lost $$ as there were maybe 200 in attendance for the Late Models.

Monster Truck SHow they rented the track to Feld Motorsports Entertainment.  (same as Wells Fargo Arena and other venues do, unless there were HUGE lines buying concessions, you don't make much $$ on those).

Concerts (don't know what the break even # is but I'm guessing about 3000 or more for the concerts they've held the past few years during the County Fair (The Charlie Daniels Band this year - July 15).

Tell me a track that has great payouts for the Support Classes as most if not all don't.  There are 410 Races around the Country (where they are the headliner) that don't pay what Knoxville pays the 360's weekly.  Should it be more?  Probably, but unless the stands start filling up with more paying customers, it's hard for racetracks to increase purses (all racetracks).

The WoO touts sold out crowds yet their purses have been the same since the 1980's.  Why, because the tracks generally only seat 3000 or so and hte promotors aren't making the killing everyone thinks they are.

Why is anyone complaining about the things that Badlands is providing?  Who cares if Knoxville can't/won't/shouldn't give free passes or anything else.  This has nothing to do with Badlands Speedway.  Let them do their thing, and Knoxville should do it's thing and everyone will be just fine.  Whining because 2 or 3 cars are no longer racing at Knoxville on Saturday night for whatever reason (whether they're paid, comped, bought.....) is stupid.

This has never been a "Badlands vs. Knoxville" thing.  The only stone cast was when Chuck said he was basically sick of hearing about Knoxville.  I don't think it was a slight, but everyone seems to have taken it that way.  I personally don't care about Chuck or what he does or where he comes from.  I know that I've seen alot of good racing with higher car counts and upgraded facilities.  That makes me happy as a race fan.  The end.

Great post. No hold on tight for the onslaught of hateful comments from the "Internet Balls" crowd.

Great comments! Long before this most recent turn of events I was an advocate of better purses. The purses were stagnant way too long. For that I give Brennan credit for waking up the sprint car community. My biggest concern is this.....just like in our entire society, the money always funnels to the top. Absolutely Brennan raised the purse at the top and at the bottom......but the gap did not narrow, it got wider. That does become a huge problem! That is what leads to the lower teams falling off and going away. The lower end sponsors and car owners know they will not make money from the race car itself, but they need the cost offset of a decent payday to help cover their expences. The big dollar teams.....if they choose not to lower their spending habits and continue to out spend evrybody else, it's because they have the disposable funds to do so.

absolutely!

Almost makes you wish there was more than 1 night on the weekend so the big $ 410 teams in the area can run more than once a weekend and the tracks didn't have to compete against each other, like maybe Friday or even Sunday. If only there was a solution.

Knoxville could always run on Monday or Thursday...maybe even Sunday morning.

Just trying to help out lil' fella. All about solutions (and sarcasm). Some get it. Some don't obviously.

Your might as well agree to disagree folks, this reminds me of the Lincoln vs. Port Saturday night drama in Pa, which are much closer to each other than Knox and Bad. This drama will exist as long as both tracks race Saturday nights. And just like Pa both tracks will be fine.

After reading all the threads on this subject thsee are the issues that everyone from the Knox side is expressing:

1. Chuck made negative comments about Knox

2. Chuck is a Pawn broker and payday loaner at high intrest rates.

3. Chuck is paying drivers to race his track.

4. Chuck is giving away too much money and stuff and maybe someday he won't be able to keep up the high pay.

5. Chuck knows nothing about dirt track racing.

Other than the negative comments and speculation that some of the Knox drivers accepted money to run Badlands, I don't quite get what everyone is so upset about. If he knows nothing about Sprints and wont be able to make payouts, you Knoxville fans have nothing to worry about, he should run it into the ground in a season or 2. Or maybe your actually worried he can pull it off. Either way it makes for some good debating.

Starting to wonder if some are worried he might actually pull it off.  Funny how the "Knoxville faithful" we're never concerned about Husets, or their cars, or their fans in the past.   Or last year for that matter when Knoxville would have anywhere from 25-35 cars a night, but when Husets ran their annual $10,000 to win show with no other 410 race that night anywhere remotely close, they had a whopping 19 cars, and Lasoski was the only "Knoxville guy" to come.   Where was all the concern about the fans then?   People to the south east could've cared less that they didn't get huge crowds at Husets on a Sunday night, or that the car counts were mediocre at best.   But now you all claim to be "worried about sprint car racing, and the fans."   -just my thoughts
