Well if indeed Rick Ferkel was supposed to be a driver "handler" I think Bell made the right move leaving based on Rick's advice. Thats what a young rookie should do. Pay attention to the advice of knowledgable veterans in the sport who are guiding you and trying to prevent failed career moves. Sounds like its a shame that the 83 has fallen apart. They were at one time a very stout team. Bell will be just fine, in fact I bet he has a more productive season than anyone who jumps in the 83 to replace him.

The 83 needs to be made even more identicle to every other 410 car in the country.  I heard they use a unique supplier for their valve covers.  Its just killing them using such abnormal, exotic, different and just plain crazy parts.  Getting back to exactly what ALL their competitors run will bring success no matter who is driving the car!

Really? You cant see the writing on the wall? When they were at their peak Tim Shaffer won the Knoxville Nationals. That team is in no way the same combination that it was then. So yes I would say they've fallen apart.

 When I talked to Bell at the Western world at the end of the 2012 season he was hooked up with Rick Ferkel for the 2013 season and was excited about it. By feb of 2013 at the Copper on Dirt he was in a Keith Kunz Midget and on his way to a steller season in non winged stuff. Rick has backed Bell througout and I'm sure he will continue to do so.

I believe they are really great friends and Rick is his mentor.  I'm sure that translated into Rick wanting to be involved in the car.  I would say mis-communication on what his duties were.  Simple as that.  I have heard they have another driver for the 83.

Well, considering I talk to Chris daily, I would go with I have personal knowledge of the facts behind his departure. You're just a typical keyboard warrior that hides your identity behind your fake alias.
 
What people fail to comprehend in this situation is the 83 Holbrook team is a shell of it's former self. It's not the same people running the show that won the Knoxville Nationals. Shaffer saw the writing on the wall and left. Bell did the same.
Bell brings down Hall of Famer Rick Ferkel to wrench for him down in Florida, They let Ferkel set the car up for his first night at Bubba he started 19th and finishes 8th which by all accounts was a hammer down track, After that race Rick Ferkel's services where no longer wanted and changes that Rick made to the car where dismissed and changed back to what they had before Rick got there... Don't feel bad for Rick though, he wrenched for PPM and got a victory at East Bay.
 
Chris made a decision that I think many of us put in his situation would have made.

From the Ohio bunch  you would have to think that Cap Henry & Sheldon Haud are the favorites. Aaron Call does have a lot of history with Phil Gressman too so don't count him out. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to get someone like T-Mac to run the 2-day show at Attica in April though.

Who knows maybe they will be like the BWW car and just pick and choose throughout the year.

Bell is an exceptionally sharp kid. Something had to have been very wrong for it to sour so quickly. Not an indictment of the owners of the 83, just clear things happened in such a way that Bell and his camp felt his career would be better served by moving on.

The kid is a tremendous talent. It will always be gratifying thinking back to covering his micro campaign in 2010 in which he won the ascs2 non wing title and fell a failed chain short of topping Blake Hahn for the Outlaw title. I was pretty sure he was a great talent back then, but it's not like I'm all over the country watching thousands of drivers. To see him continuously earn success is damn cool.

Put yourself in Bell's camp. They know they have a hot hand and aren't of the mind to languish in sub par portions of the season. He probably doesn't have a shortage of offers, so why tie yourself down to one that you don't feel good about?

Just like Larson - congrats Chris Bell - you've earned some detractors and doubters. Bell hasn't attained as much success as Larson did, but then again Larson's meteoric rise and success from coast to coast could go unmatched for a long time. Point is Bell has proven to be a top flight driver - why risk it by tying yourself to a deal you aren't comfortable or confident.

This whole topic was put out there like Bell should be gleeful and stoked about a possible opportunity to remain within a situation they weren't comfortable or confident in. If you think about the hand Bell is playing - chances are he made the right move. Cohesiveness and confidence in situation is essential. If they go out an have problems in another ride or two this year - then maybe there is some merit to this.

As for the 83 losing steam - sounds like a majority feel it's not what it once was. So why would one of the best young racers remain in it if they felt the same way or didn't think it was a good fit? IDK - just seems like it could be a win/win for both parties. Come back to it in October/November - proof will be in the results and I bet the 83 team still has a good year and Bell has another fantastic campaign.
