So basically NASCAR is going to have an enduro race on a 1/2 mile pavement track covered in dirt next year. Only difference than your local enduro is this will be broadcasted on tv and with drivers competing named Harvick, Busch, Truex, Hamlin etc.

I'm more intrigued to see what Tony Stewart and Ray Evernham's series consists of compared to Nascar's crap, aside from watching sprint cars and midgets on the computer.

I remember that year as well. I think something similar happened to the truck & busch race last year as well but I had overlooked it at the time. I myself would also drive 20-50miles, maybe even more if there are multiple tracks running events close to each other but at different times. The funny thing is that when it happens to them or one of their partners they throw a fit. Like Texas Motor Speedway's  Eddie Gossage when COTA ran the formula 1 race against one of the Nascar Texas races.

I think if the collaborated a little bit, well actually a lot more than what they do, with other forms of racing it would help motorsports in general. I like the idea of have a Nascar & Indycar weekend at a track. I think the whole dick measuring contest that Nascar seems to be obsessed about needs to stop and they need to learn the racing world no longer revolves around them anymore in this country. Fanbase is so spreadout among all forms of racing that if they partnered with all forms of racing I think the fans would be more likely to flock to those events and others.

They could do Bristol in dirt with the World of Outlaws, even Eldora and Knoxville. They can do a weekend at places like Charlotte, Vegas, Texas, and Knoxville (with Newton) where they could do the truck/xfinity race during the day and then at night have the Outlaws race. Even have the Late Models run those nights too. Run Texas and Indy road coruse with Indycar, then have the midgets run in the infield and/or at IRP later in the day with the Xfinity & Trucks along with Silver Crown or something. Hell some of the places you can even through in NHRA since some of them have drag strips. I think at this point all forms of motorsports need to look at how they can grow the pizza rather than seeing who can take more slices of the current size

If they (nascar) had any brains, they would do exactly what you are suggesting.  Late Models on the dirt at Bristol Thursday night, the WoO Friday night and their beloved Cup series Saturday night.  Follow it up with the finals to an NHRA event on Sunday.  Holy shit---can you imagine the crowd you would bring in?  You would have fans from 4 different disciplines filling the stands for 4 races.  Every group runs their own series so the logistics would not be that difficult.  They would be bringing in late-90's money again at Bristol.

Never happen----too much arrogance

+1! Half of this race will be run under caution. 3500 pound car with 700 horsepower will be like watching street stocks at your local dirt track for hours on end.

Put them in limited late models, 350 lap race, 3 scheduled 10 minute pit stops, let them have at it.

Honestly if they race a car like an IMCA Stock Car this race should be pretty good. Don't get mad at me but stock car racing around these parts is usually a pretty good show. I think NASCAR would need to limit to field to 24 or less. 40 or more create to much chance for yellows especially for back markers not really making the show interesting in the first place. Sorry boys but run the heats and make the show or go home. Maybe that's the plan anyhow?

I didn't see anything on NASCAR's site about this.   So they're running the Cup cars on dirt now?  Not sure why they would do that, but if it brings the WoO back to Bristol I'll watch that for sure.   Even if I hadn't stopped watching NASCAR completely I still would have no interest in watching any of their cars run on dirt.

its there, google it...

I dont know how this is going to turn out.  Hell Tony Stewart (I believe) said that Cup Cars are to underpowered to run on dirt.  I also cant see them bringing in SLM or 410 Sprint Cars to that race. It would embarrass NASCAR Cup Cars because they would be so much faster than the Cup Cars which would be the Premier Series at that race. Im not talking a few MPH or tenths of a Second either.  It is going to be Several Seconds and MPH Slower than the SLM's and Sprints

I dont think this is going to go well for NASCAR unless they allow the Cup Cars to increase the HP to over 900HP.  With the Weight of the car and the scrubbing off of speed/momentum of the Cup Cars I would be surprised if the track Average Speed is much over 75MPH if that.

It is going to take at least a month of trial and error in engine configuration and setup to really even make this a show worthy of NASCAR.  Even though the train they run is boring.  This race is gonna be a crash fest especially in the turns because of the lack of power they are going to have to keep the car going forward and not have the ass end of the car trying to overtake the front end.

One thing is for certain, it will be interesting to say the least

I was at Bristol for the 1st race w/ the Outlaws, it was scary fast! They brought in 600 loads of dirt to do it, There were no seats allowed for the first 20 rows on the bottom of the stands (for safety) and they made the bank less by putting very little dirt at the top, but dirt was as high as the inside wall (3 ft?) getting in to the pits was like a ramp.  I believe that number that said Sammy was doing 165 mph, it was that fast .One of the Chesson boys flipped, destroyed the cars, parts flying everywhere, that's why they closed those 20 rows. Randy Kinser flipped too, 1 of Steve's cars,  same result. Thank the Lord, nobody hurt. The track was hard and slick in warmups, no cushion at all at any time. I think that was the plan.

Can this help Nascar? IDK, Brian France sure did screw it up, but that's not the problem I see. Cars are not viewed like back in the day of "win on Sunday, sell on Monday". Back then a person could go out and buy a car that looked like the car in the race. Then, when cable came along, it exploded because of now everybody could see what it was, and the sponsers took notice and started throwing money at them. That was the meteoric rise of Nascar. Now, there ain't a Camry sold that looks anything on the track. Hell, anything on those cars that looks like any car we know is decals!

I think they'te trying to bring back all the race fans they lost  but the casual fan has moved on.

That's how I remember it. Very fun and unique weekend but someone was going to get killed. They did take the banking out some but you could still barely walk up it in the turns. Chessons car hit the inside concrete wall and looked to be sheared in half length ways. Thought he was a goner. They came through the pits with a saw-zall and cut off the bottom left corner of the wings because drivers couldn't see ahead of them as they went into the turns. That was the cause of the Randy Kinser crash. Broke his leg I believe. It was about 100 degrees and we camped in a tent. Had a blast and met great people but damn was it fast.

Do you remember Sammy getting penalized or something and flying down pit road and Bobby Jackson (WoO official)  having to take evasive manuevers to keep from getting ran over? LOL

First walking in to Bristol and seeing the dark red dirt was a bit chilling too.

Martinsville would be a nice track to cover in dirt and run LM , sprints, and Cup cars on it.

Dont really see how 1 race is going to "bring fans back" to nascar. I may at least start to watch a dirt cup race on tv but will still ignore the rest of the schedule as usual.
