And another hater troll chimes in.  Love these threads that draw out the trolls from underneath their rocks, lmao.

Haven't a dissenting opinion isn't trolling, you do realize? Hater's fine. This is not trolling, and it's not even close.

Agreed. I don't care for either one of them but Kevin would gain a notch or two from me if he ended up firing his grumpy old man....

Chris, Sammy is hardly a grumpy old man.  He is a very comfortable older man, he spends as much time in the water these days as he does a sprint car, ain't nothing wrong with that.  All those years (many years ago) of spending time with Sammy I never saw a grumpy man except when something broke on the car or he made a mistake which didn't happen all that often racing and you know that. I spent time at his shop, Kevin's go-kart races, Cycleland and many other times and he often caught me with his sense of humor, it is dry and wicked and top shelf, I truly wish you would have got to know that Sammy vs. the one you never got to know......I miss seeing you and the Chico gang at the races, we had some very good times especially during Gold Cup, woo hooooooo....

I actually do know that but you know me well enough to know that I couldn't pass up a shot like that :-). I will let people who have actually gone in recent years comment but I believe you saw the golden years of that event. From what I have heard it's just not the same but I have a different life now which does not involve going to the races. If you were going to come south for racing I would have you look no further than Knoxville for the Nationals and Eldora for Royal week.

He's an engineer right? My late father was one too, & they're not known for their "people skills"

I met Sammy once, a couple of years ago at Chili Bowl, told him I was a big fan. He replied, deadpan, something like "oh yea, thanks". Probably concentrating on the task at hand...

I don't care if these guys are "Mr. Personality"... i like  to watch him race

I'm all for open, dissenting discussions, but wishing conflict between a guy &  his son in a wheelchair is pretty mean spirited, IMHO

Amen.  If Sammy isn't a threat to the safety of the other racers, then he ought to do it as long as he can.  So what if he doesn't win as often, being out there still beats sitting in the stands.  And he can sell a lot more shirts if he is behind the wheel.

I am a Kinser fan and the last few years were tough watching him slow down.  I still went to races, hoping he might catch lightning in a bottle one more time so I could see him take the checkers for the win.  Didn't happen, but I still enjoyed watching him run.  I'm glad he got out when he did - a few of those wrecks in the last year or 2 of racing had to be pretty hard on him.

Watching Steve at the end was tough.  Not because he didn’t have the talent anymore, but he was out of shape.  That isn’t Sammy.  Age is a factor, sure, but Sammy seems to be in great shape and he clearly takes care of himself.  He’s not the Sammy he was even 5 years ago, but he’s still a damn good driver.  He’s shown plenty of speed in the 410 this year.  I expect him to be in the A Saturday night, maybe even the back half of the top 10 when the night is over.

Remember, he doesn’t have to be the wrench on this car.  Kevin knows what he’s doing.  It’ll be fun to watch.

I saw Steve's last race, Allstars event at Lebanon Valley, NY. Sammy won it (ironic, no?)

Kind of a boring race tho, other than historical importance....not much passing at that place, regular local Modified fans say thats pretty typical...

Pretty drive from Connecticut tho, Old New England, lots of forest & lakes

Don't forget a couple hard crashes really slowed kinser down. After that he started to put the xtra pds on . When he had to have back surgery it basically took everything out of him. His age, his body could no longer take the pounding every night. I have vivid memories of Sammy being the guy that gave no one an inch. The situation is what it is for the swindell family. I wish Sammy the best at the kings royal and if he has to give that inch I hope he does so.

Relaxe. I would have said the same thing even if Kevin wasn't in a wheelchair. I'm not being insensitive to Kevin's situation just poking fun at the idea of being able to fire his father since he is the car owner. If still confused refer to Nelligan's post because if I was out of line I can assure you he would have called me on it :-).

1. No one has any business worrying about whether sammy needs to be racing because there's a chance he might get hurt other than sammy and his wife. 2. His age doesnt really mean hes in anymore danger than anyone else. 3. Other than a crown jewel race or a woo race he actually has a decent chance of winning he can still be fast. 4. Why not just enjoy him racing it's another car on the track and I promise he wont be this slowest one. 5. He still adds excitement to the racing world even when hes acting like baby. People.......just enjoy it and quit whining about him you might actually regret it when he truly does quit.

I remember Coldren putting him in the 07 for the Tuscarora 50 a couple years ago. He definitely added some excitement at the start of his heat race...it didn't sound like Reutzel enjoyed it all that much however.

Still Winning just finished second to Brad Sweet in his heat race.

And, he just won his Dash over Sweet.

Folks, just enjoy the fact that the man still has the desire at 63 to be still out there driving one of these missiles.  If you are a fan, you've seen some vicious flips in these cars and most of us have never experienced one.  I'm sure he has experienced at least one or two of these and at age 63 he is willing to challenge for the best possible finish or wad one of these cars up in a ball.  I certainly wish him the best.  He has always been one of, if not my favorite driver and this goes back to the Old Mil car.  We will find out if there is still a little magic left and if not, hat's off to him for still having the desire to be out there.

You know, I never hear the same rhetoric about Jac Haudenschild being still out there.  If I am not mistaken, he is about the same age as Sammy.  I have not heard anyone question whether Jac should be out there competing.  I feel people have an ax to grind with Sammy. Yeah, I know, two totally different personalities.  Sammy has a more serious, dry personality, while Jac is always smiling and happy-go- lucky.  Well, folks that's what makes us all different.  I spoke to each driver Tuesday evening at the Doty Classic before the sky opened up and Sammy was really great to speak with.  During our conversation, we talked about music and he was more than wiling to talk.  He was more than willing to take a photo with me and my buddy.  I caught Jac when he was chatting with someone else and we didn't speak for long.  What was the difference?  Probably the circumstance, Jac was with someone and Sammy was not.  Jac was getting ready to strap in to the car and Sammy was just hanging out with the team and probably advising the team any way he could.  Yeah, their personalities might be different, but one was going to work and one was chillin' out.  Ever wonder how you would react if someone came to your place of work and approached you right in the middle of something important?  And these guys have work places in what I consider one of the highest risk jobs and we expect them to be like our best friend.

MORE POWER TO YOU SAMMY!!  You are doing something you love and I wish you the best!

While I was typing, Sammy took 2nd in his heat and Jac won his heat!!  Let's hear it for the Senior Citizens!!  I'm guessing they still belong behind the wheel!!  Hoping for the best the rest of the evening!!  Go Sammy and Jac!!
