Sept. 29, 2000 the Gumout series towed all the way up to Superior, WI with a great car cout of 32. Kenny Jacobs won it and some other throwback names that may not have already been mentioned in this thread were Jerrod Hull, Jimmy Carter, Travis Whitney, Blake Feese, Raymond Hensley, John Bridgeford.

It was cool to see a track so far north without any local 410 racing take a chance on such a late season race and have a bunch of California guys show up like Furr, Meyers and Jason Statler.

They brought the IRA in there for Friday of the Northern Nationals for quite a few years after that Gumout race.  I went to a handful of them but we used to camp at Cedar Lake for the Jerry Richert Memorial the next night and it got to be a bit much.  They track prep was always good and they have that tacky red clay.  We saw some good races up there but IRA dropped it from their schedule.

If my memory is correct, Jeff Shepard retired after head injuries sustained in a crash at the Knoxville Nationals(driving the Zemco 1 I think). The only time he has been in a sprint car since is when Fred Rahmer had that exhibition race at Lincoln a few years ago where he had replica cars for a bunch of older and retired drivers.

I remember seeing the gumouts at Port Royal and the Grove. Ron Laney came to Port Royal for a regular show to test and tune a couple weeks before the upcoming Gumout race. He ended up winning the feature but got DQ'd for not having the Port Royal track tire.
