Fairly certain it said the majority of the jersey barriers were to make a safe walking area in the pit area and a few put in place entering turn 1.
Not sure its the appropriate place to bash a race track trying to make improvements. Certain someone is spending money and supporting the local racing area instead of just letting the track die like many others. I grew up at Silver Springs Speedway and Penn National and miss watching the races there everyday.

Per their tweet : "Barriers will be used in the pit areas to make safe walk ways for fans & race teams during the races."
That sounds good to me. They have really turned that place around in 2 very busy years. I'm looking forward to the 2018 season.

So.... Did we ever determine if BAPS will get an official Speedweek show or will it be another Speedweek "warmup" show like in 2016 ?

They should drop all the doubles, get a new track or two and shorten the event by whatever left open spots are left.

Agreed, leave the open spots for rain dates.

Just a thot and i have only seen the Grove so....
If it is Pennsylvania speedweek i think the week should include as many tracks as possible 1 time each unless absolutely noboby wants a show and then start to double up to a minimum 7 events cause the name says "week". Of course safety would play into it at some point and i can not speak to that from where i live. However I think it would be best to get into areas the cars dont go every weekend, spread the excitement, maybe recruit a few fans and even new teams who step up from what they do now. If teams think a track is unworthy they can vote with their lack of participation.
Not quite this simple but if you have a Penn State zip code and a race track you can apply. Best 7 to 10 get a date.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

The whole backstretch has jersey barriers on the inside and outside. The front straight has barriers on the inside. The outside of the front straight is 3/4 crumbling concrete wall from1856 with the last 1/4 jersey barriers. Yes the place is much improved but it's not a MOTOR speedway. The name is silly. The guardrails are junk. The staff doesn't know how to run time trial shows. But there's pics every week of the "curb" so things must be improving.

You would think so, but the Pa Speedweek dates are controlled by the promotors of the three tracks that run 410's on a regular basis(Williams Grove, Lincoln & Port Royal).....therefore, they each get two dates and are protective on who gets to fill out the rest of the speedweek schedule.

You are correct and that is one of the biggest reasons why Pa Speedweek is becoming a shadow of its former self. A series like Speedweek needs variety. Not the majority of races being contested on the same 3 tracks that race literally every week. Ohio Speedweek is a ton better than the Pa version. After all, Speedweek was their idea to begin with. Ours only exists because local promoters got their asses out of joint about our locals leaving the porch and heading to Ohio for a week.

So whats the problem with Jersey barriers? Are they dangerous? ( not arguing, asking...)
I've only been to Susky once, USAC midgets last year, & racing was terrific. I liked the place

They become dislodged sometimes when hit. It's a cheap way to make your track look like it has real concrete walls. Perfectly fine for midgets and probably a sprint car, but when a 2, 200lb dirt late model hits one it can be a different story. It's a rare occurrence but safety isn't really my issue because I've raced at Susky in the todd fisher era. I just hate the name. You throw motor speedway in there and it has to look like an Eldora or a Jackson or a Charlotte. Otherwise it's silly. And that will be impossible unless you bulldozed the place and started over. 300,000 dollars over 5 years ain't shit.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought Pa Speedweek is alive and well, I went to most shows last year and they all had packed stands.

I totally agree, besides the three big races in September (Tuscarora 50, Dirt Classic, WoO) these races draw the biggest crowds of the year at all tracks, including both races at the Big-3

Yes they do. Now you know why Williams Grove, Lincoln & Port Royal want TWO DATES each. As long as the fans fill the stands on "both nights" those three tracks will be greedy in letting other tracks have a date.

I don’t think it has anything to do with greed. With the exception of WG (both Friday nights), Lincoln and Port Royal continue to gamble on these weekday shows and take a chance on them.
How willing would other tracks be to scheduling a Monday or a Thursday night race in the middle of a 10-race schedule and not have weekly regulars to help fill the fields?
And me personally, yes, I would like to see a 7-race schedule at 7 different tracks spread out over 10 days
But I’m fine with the way it is now too.
