As talented...Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliot and Erick Jones with Blaney and Elliot in cup full time less than two years and Jones first year. There 3 drivers.

Please tell me this is a joke. ????

First time Larson went to the BigE he swept the Sprint, Midget and Silver Crown Races against the best USAC boys in the country, most talented all around driver since Tony Stewart....

Well, here we go--You asked for it:
1. Hasn't won Knoxville yet--over 7 billion people on earth haven't won Knoxville--he's been there 3 times. Three VERY impressive showings under the circumstances of each of the three trips. First year, wins prelim night and qualifies for A-main. 2nd and 3rd trips--as a part-time hired gun while running asphalt races. If he hadn't moved up the racing ranks so quickly, he would have been in contention to win multiple times there. (not talking already--talking as a whole throughout his career)
2. "He won a damn non wing race at Kokomo". He's from California. And, once again, he moved up through the racing ranks so fast, we never got to even see him leave the mark he could have left on open wheel racing in other regions of the country.
3. King's Royal? How many King's Royals has he actually participated in? I struggle to remember him there at all. I do however, remember he had a pretty memorable night in his first ever visit to Eldora.
4. Hasn't won in PA. Who cares? Once again, how many times did he races there? 6? 8? 10?
5. Cup race wins? 2 if you want the exact number. If not for fuel issues and a few mechanical gremlins, likely would have 4 or 5 by now. No biggie. He'll get a ton more. 9 runner ups. He turns 25 years old this summer. Dale Sr. won his first race at 28 I believe. Jeff Gordon won his first at 23 and had 2 wins by 24.
No one said he has surpassed Richard Petty's 200 wins. No one claims he has more wins than Kinser.
But if you really don't think he is one of the most talented drivers in the country--and I mean top 2 or 3 in any form of motorsports, please don't comment on this forum again because you clearly don't know what you are watching.

K & N Pro Series East title! Anyone with his funding, car, crew, is going to jump into that series and dominate. How many cars run all the races in that series anyway, K & N Pro Series East, bah humbug, that's nothing and to say how great he is based on that, that's your argument! Pretty weak. Sure, good guy and everything but in the Cup series, average top 15 driver.

I was simply stating the facts. Somebody mentioned he hadn't won a championship outside of go-karts and that simply isn't true.
Time will tell how good this kid is. I'm going to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Go away kid. Let the adults who actually know what they're talking about and can handle a difference in opinion with dignity resume the discussion. Feel free to keep reading though, you might learn something.

Typical Hosehead's debate..... We stay on point and have a reasonable debate for a bit until someone commits a threadjacking and we derail faster than the train in Unbreakable.

I am guessing you were part of the debate team at your local University? Your rebuttal is so well thought out and carefully delivered.
I remember now--the only two wins he has are in Nascar and in the Monster Energy Series. I almost forgot.
So let's name all of the greatest drivers of all time who will qualify for your list:
To qualify they must win 50 Nascar races, the King's Royal, The Knoxville Nationals, more than just Kokomo if they come to Indiana, at least once in PA in a sprint car, and the Chili Bowl.
Huh, looks like every driver in the history of American auto racing sucks.

Okay, let me back off a bit on my statement. Talent is an open-ended term.
Kyle may not yet be as talented as those three at saving equipment, knowing how to run 500 miles or laps, and understanding how to bring the car home with a sparkle and a shine. (although better this year)
But, if you poll 100 race fans and ask them who they want in the car (any car) with 20 laps to go and they can choose between Larson, Blaney, Elliott and Jones? I have to say, almost anyone who has been watching cars go in circles their entire life is going to chose Larson. If you don't agree with that, fine. But, you are seeing something different than I am on the track each week. Those other three are obviously talented or they wouldn't be there. With Larson, there is that little something extra without a doubt.
Larson is a spitting image of the 1994 version of Jeff Gordon right now. Driving where others aren't with a loose race car. As fast on 2 tires as some on 4. Able to run back through the field after a penalty or spin. Car missing most of the paint from scraping the wall every other lap. And we all know what happened once Jeff figured out the how to save the equipment, run 500 laps and bring the car home in one piece, don't we?

Then hate his fans, not him. That's not his fault. I'm not a fan of Jr. or nascar for that matter but he always seemed like a soft-spoken, down to earth guy to me especially considering the pedestal he was put on. He's an above average driver that's won a few big races, nothing more nothing less. I think it's a wise decision for him to retire.
|
Seems like I was hating on his fans, with a little bit thrown towards Jr. Thanks for your input

Hey Sarge, don't bother with this tool. Although he is comical and made me spit my coffee, but he is one of the 'challenged' ones....

My 2 cents worth on the Larson "debate"........1: Time will tell. 2: There is a group of very good, talented young drivers out there and at any time one or more of them might just break through and become the headlines. As for Larson's past accomplishments, he hasn't spent enough real hard time in any one format to be declared one of the best. That distinction comes only with time.

I just put brand new tubes in my 23" RCA and rewrapped the aluminum foil around the rabbit ears! Trust me, I can see just fine what's going on!!
Seriously though--not discounting their talent. I will say though, when one of the 3 you mention are running towards the front, and have an issue, or they are passed for the lead, I don't YET see them coming back in attack mode. They usually fade as the race continues. Just my observations. As said before, could change at any time going forward. At this point in the season, and to clarify--this point thus far, Larson is clearly (if you're watching--clearly) the car to beat week in and out.
