Still looking for a place to watch this in and around the north Metro of St. Paul/Minneapolis.  Someone suggested going to a sports bar but that would be hit or miss up here in this stick & ball obsessed market.  I suppose it would be a good excuse to go bar hopping but it's going to be sub zero and windy so don't want to get in and out of the car too many times.  wink

You will need to ask whatever sports bar you decide to go to if they have MavTv.  I know it is on DirecTv, not so sure about Dish.  Cable companies up that way, also, no clue.  I would suggest Buffalo Wild Wings.  They will put it on for you, but again, not sure if their carrier carries it. There will be a very important football game on, but I am sure that because the Viqueens are out of it, it may not be a hot commodity up there.  Good luck

I can't recall the channel but I think it was the old Speed that used to broadcast Chili Bowl as part of my channel package.  We don't get MAV and probably never will and I'm not about to pay for broadcasts that I used to get for free as I'm trying to pay some plastic down so I can retire as planned.  I have patched a VGA cable from a laptop to an HDTV a few times and these PPV's drop and cut out on a fast cable internet connection, usually about two minutes before the green drops on the Feature.  PPV is too buggy and at least in my experience has been hit or miss with a variety of services.

I've had cable or satellite since 1985 and for years we watched racing shows such as the old Diamond P broadcasts, Thursday Night Thunder and all kinds of great racing programming.  Now here it's 2015 and if I want to watch dirt track racing I've got to go ale carte with internet PPV and fork over anywhere from $30 to $100+ in addition to what we're already spending on cable, high speed internet, Netflix and Amazon Prime.  That doesn't sit well with my accountant when she sees the Visa bill.  I can watch the NFL channel, NHL games, concerts and just about any other sport imaginable as well as all the NASCAR races as part of my cable package.  In the meantime dirt track racing has gone backwards in it's television coverage over the past 30 years to the point that it's pretty much non existent.

Someone mentioned sports bars but I can't think of any nearby that aren't obsessed with stick and ball where I could be guaranteed to see it.  If I could find somewhere nearby to watch this, hell, I'd even buy the beer.

I had that same problem with sports bars last year until I got the brilliant idea of checking out the local carting emporium. They had it on....

Try www.lucasoilracing.tv   they informed me that they will have it live on Sat. and will also have 5 Lucas Oil Late Model Events in Feb..   It is $60 for a year or $6.99 a month.  They also have some old races of different types on free preview section.  Hope this helps.

Have you tried calling your area bars and just asking them if they will be showing it??

I live in western PA and just found out our cable system Armstrong Cable offers MAV TV as part of what is called an "extra" package for $4 a month. Heck of a deal! I am signed up and ready for some chili on Saturday,

Most sports bars have multiple TVs. Just request that they put on CH 214 if they have Direct tv. If they want your business you should not have a problem!

I'm with you on this one. You touch on all of the same frustrations I have with cable and satellite programming. It's gettting tougher and tougher to swallow, especially considering the price of the service. If it wasn't for the rest of the family, I may not have cable TV. Everything I really want to see can be viewed via PPV online, or through Netflix etc... I have a buddy that calls these things "Round Eye Problems", aka white people problems. Life is just so tough sometimes.

Computers are strange. After logging on to Hoseheads to complain, I went back to LucasOil TV & it worked OK.

But I still want to go live... did somebody mention a lottery to buy tix? When does it start?

Do what ever you need to to get to go to Tulsa for all 5 days. You will love it. Just keep in mind...if you go once, you will want to go every year!

Call the office and give them your name, address & credit card number late April or very early May.. When time for those with tickets to renew ends all remaining are sold on first come first serve basis. That's how I got mine. Calling early with all your info puts you at the front of the line. Those are given tickets first starting with earliest caller.

That's what I was told when I called & asked when tickets went on sale to general public. So I gave my info right then & got tickets on my first try!

Good luck!

A group of racing fans convinced the Settlement Bar & Grille (named inspired by the owner's divorce settlement) a few miles down the road from Cedar Lake Speedway to air the race last night.  Temps were -16 with a -35 wind chill and I'd have had to sit there drinking pop among beer drinkers which didn't all sound like a lot of fun.  I ended up watching the Packers get beat by the Cards which produced an equally high level of satisfaction for this Vikings fan.  I haven't been outside since Friday night and didn't get online last night so I'm still trying to find the box scores for the race.

Read my previous comments about racing television coverage going backwards for the past 30 years.  For the most part one station broadcasts dirt racing (MAVTV) and it's only carried by one satellite service and is not available on every cable system.  I'm already paying $120+ for cable/internet along with Netflix and Amazon Prime so cat calls about me being "cheap" will fall on deaf ears.

We just booked our rooms at a casino motel to see Queensryche on the 29th as it's something that the wife gives a thumbs up to as opposed to a week in a fume filled arena.  The Chili Bowl might be great racing but the way this thing shook out with the television coverage over the past 30 years sucks.  My old laptop that I patch into the HDTV can only sync at 1024x768 so the picture for racing is nothing to boast about.  Dirt track racing is pretty much out of sight, out of mind as far as TV goes unless I want to spend $50-$150 per weekend depending on the event to watch an inferior picture that cuts out throughout the broadcast.  The technology is there to broadcast these races but the internet connections at a lot of these places can barely support the broadcasts.

My point exactly that I just covered in my last post about streaming races.  With us most of the time they'll run decent until the A Main liines up then we'll lose the signal until it's over.  Didn't want to go there again last night.

There were some problems with the feed off and on up until the A main which was flawless.  I agree though, for the money that is being charged for online PPVs it's about time these companies get their connections sorted out.  I'm getting tired of getting hosed on the US/CAD exchange rate only to be screwed again by a feed that keeps buffering.

This is actually a great idea.   A few weeks ago I was eating breakfast at a place in Arlington, TX called Fuzzy's Taco Shop.  They had several TVs going and one of them had MavTV on it.    Personally, this is why I don't have the total AT&T bundle even if it saves me money.   I have ATT home phone, and they just recently convinced me to go with their high speed internet.   I told them in no uncertain terms that they could keep their TV service because they don't have MavTV.

I am a subscriber to MAV TV .  But being present at the chili bowl is second to none. You get a whole season of racing in one week. My only issue is  it takes 5 hours for 5 races. Two 15 lap C mains, Two 20 lap B mains and a 55 lap A. All for TV time. The hour from 6:30 to 7:30 was sit down time and some track prep. Now mind you after sitting there enjoying champion ship day which started with bouble N mains. starting early morning. By later in the day I like to see the show flow quite faster.

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

We get by on one income and my wife does not like racing.  I'm not complaining or looking for sympathy, it's a decent income that allows me to do a lot of things but it's not enough to foot the bill for separate vacations.  I have tried to convince her that it would be awesome to spend a week in a fume filled building in that vacation mecca known as Tulsa, Oklahoma, but she's pretty smart and saw through my sales pitch.

I'm not against spending money but the casino hotel and concert we're going to in two weeks was a much easier sell than the Chili Bowl.  I'm sure there are a lot of racing fans reading this thread who don't have the luxury of making this trip and probably plenty of us who in spite of our enjoyment of racing perfer to see it outdoors on a nice summer evening.  wink
