will someone tell me how having the left rear tire shrink makes it difficult to get the car turned.
|
I hear ya,never heard of more stagger making the car harder to turn, but also don't believe the tires are shrinking either.

I doubt hiring the Dunkins would help any traveling circuit. They work all week to get one track ready.
The type of track prep needed can hardly be completed the day of or the day before a race. With a travelling circuit there are not enough Dunkin's to go around to complete the job properly.

That was a "tongue in cheek" statment.
If you gonna own a track, learn track prep!!!!!!!!

IMO Goodyears produced better racing no matter the surface. I bet even ole Sammy wishes he were back on the GY's instead of the whoseyours! As for passing points, screw that, I don't want to have to have a notebook and calculator to follow the races.

Anybody that has been to The Trophy Cup knows what the solution is.

Buzz, my bad. Great catch, I typed the wrong tire in there. The crew member I spoke to said right rear shrunk and the left rear grew. That was after his driver went from 5th to 14th in a recent A main.

Take the damn wings off.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

The ASCS have run 7 races with 8 lead changes.

I don't know of any winged tracks that have more passing when heavy vs slick which is why more passing takes place in features not heats. It's a tough balance because once the track is slick for long it lays rubber.
That to me is the real problem. How hard can it be to make a tire compound that won't transfer rubber to the track?

Impossible.

I understand it's entertaining to the fans to see people drive through fields of cars to win. As racers though, you're paid to finish first. It doesn't matter what position you start from, the goal is to be the first across the line. They're doing the job asked of them. It may suck for the fan, but the degree of parody in fields is so close anymore that you very seldom see cars drive through an entire field to win.

At the Nationals last year we all watched Donny Schatz put on a nearly worse to first finish and most of the people boo'd and bitched about him winning! He passed the best sprint drivers in the world and hardly anyone had a good thing to say about it. If you don't like going don't like going then don't go! Passing points suck!

15-20 years from now people will talk about Donny's charge like they do Wolfgang's runs through the alphabet in 1990

Most of the complaints in PA were coming from 358 teams who couldn't buy used tires from the 410 teams when the 410s were running Goodyears.
But yeah, I definitely feel like the racing was better (even though Fred never quite got the hang of them).
|
Without a doubt it was better with the GY's. Most 410 guys hated them too. Most teams/drivers don't want anything that's gonna make the car harder to lockdown and drive. They want to go faster and have a car that's easy to drive even if that puts them at a disadvantage to the $$$ teams with the best motors. IMO the weight rule didn't help either. It may have saved teams money but a higherHP/weight ratio makes the cars more of a handful which is what you want for good racing. Right now the best solutions seem to be smaller tracks, smaller wings(or no wings) and harder/smaller tires.
