I live in SE Iowa and have never been to a race at Newton yet. If I am going to drive 2 hours to see a race I will go to Knoxville instead of Newton. I am sure there are a lot of fans in Iowa that are the same way.
I did think about going to an Indy car race but when I checked ticket prices I decided against it. Plus the family didn't care about seeing them anyway. We could go to Kville for a whole lot less money and the racing is much better. I guess were just dirt only fans.
My opinion is they need to add a dragstrip to the Iowa speedway complex, get an NHRA show, and I will be there in a heartbeat for that.

As far as working with Knoxville I would assume their main focus[NASCAR] will be [ALL]about them.Hope I am wrong.

I seem to remember a few years ago nascar making a statement that they would not schedule their races on Friday and Saturday night so as not to infer with the local short tracks. That really happened didn't it, look how many saturday night shows they have now. I also think it funny how everyone that goes to Newton has it in the stupid thick heads that theres going to be a sprint cup race there - nascar keeps tellng everyone "NO Sprint Cup Races in the foresee able future". As far as Knoxville and newton working together - seriously doubt will happen. I know Knoxville tried when newton first opened (again netwon we want to work for the betterment of Central Iowa Racing) and it came down to a stick in your a__ deal from the newton people.

I wonder how. That place is always packed during Nationwide and Truck races. How can they not be turning a profit?

They spend more than they take in (ie) no profit

my guess would be the profit comes from the tv deal and the sponsor deals not the 25 people in the stands.

I am a diehard sprintcar fan, but also an Iowan who is proud of the Iowa Speedway.
NASCAR owning this track means it definitely WILL get a Cup race, in my opinion. Lots of tracks have not filled their stands with NASCAR events. Why wouldn't they move one of their Cup events to their new track; especially when the France family owns both ISC and NASCAR?
I doubt we'll ever see the Iowa Speedway collaborate with Knoxville. They probably don't see that they have anything to gain.
I'm am pleased that NASCAR owns this track. Their pockets are probably as deep as any.

I think the 360 Nationals work out pretty well as far as a racing stand point. You get a couple of drivers trying to run the feature on Saturday night along with the Nationwide race. I am perfectly willing to wait an extra 30 min or so for those guys to show up to race the feature.
Working with Knoxville would be a huge benefit for a Cup race, since they were being told that they need the extra seating to justify the Cup. So they may need those fans who go to Knoxville to fill their seats. At the moment it doesn't seem like Newton needs the help.
From a money standpoint the August date for Newton doesn't make sense to me. Aside from it get's really hot in Iowa in August at times, the night race up against the 360 Nationals means your making people choose. If you ran a day date, both places would see more seats because there is a fair share of people that would go to both.

Unless they add 30,000+ seats, there is ZERO change of getting a Cup Date. Even those tracks with Empty seats are putting 60-80,000 people in them (they just have a lot more than that.
My guess is this is a way for them to have a track that they can use for Truck and Nationwide ONLY and try to convince other tracks of those series viability to make those series stand on their own volotion (face it, the Cup Tracks are losing $$$ hand over fist when they have Truck or Nationwide Races as companion events (most of them are lucky to have 10,000 in the stands (Eldora had more paid admissions for their truck race than the entire rest of the schedule), and most of those are freebies that are given away to sponsors and the like...

Don't know why nascar would think they could make money there or even just break even with just trucks and nationwide series when no other owners of the track could.

Maybe because there would not be a sanctioning fee, or some kind of fee because they own it. They are not stupid, dumb maybe, just not stupid. They will do something to make money.......
