I didn't even consider going because it was a mortified show with Sprints as filler ... anything over 20 mortifieds is too many.

I just don't get it, modifieds must be the most difficult car in the history of the sport to drive, I've never been a fan of modifieds but after sitting in the stands for over 14 hours, my feelings wouldn't be hurt if i never seen one again, pretty sure about 15 percent of those guys could'nt even drive a train straight.

Wait a minute, here....................the modifieds were the headlining class and you're pissed that they treated the sprints like a second rate class at this race? You know what, they were were a second rate class here. So, here's what I take from this, a bunch of die hard sprint cars or nuthin fans attend a MODIFIED show that have sprint cars as a show filler and get pissed when the main class is run thru instead of the sprint cars. Am I right here? A little common sense here, too, would go a long way.

FYI, it was a MODIFIED show. But it does sound like a poorly run show, too.

Exactly... This was a modified show.   That's why my initial advice to them was that if they didn't care for it they just should not go back.   That's what I did after sitting through it last year.   No offense to the modified crowd, they just ain't my thing.   A couple of other guys from my racing gang decided to go and wished they hadn't.   They rallied me hard to go out there but I was pretty adamant that I would not.   Next year I bet they'll be a little smarter too.

Guess I always thought the fastest class was the featured class and the slower ones were the support class. Why would you bring in a traveling series with several pro drivers that race for a living as a support class for weekend racers?  Why would you want a support class that makes your featured cars look slow in comparison? And I agree that about 20 mods is the most I want to see at an event. Just my opinion, I am a sprint car & midget fan and don't care for the other stuff.

I tend to believe it was billed as a sprint show. TMS had an ad on the front page of the sports section in the Dallas Morning News exclaiming "The Sprints Are Back".

BTW...The crowd was pretty darn good

Thanks god I  was at I 80 speedway saturday night. 34 sprint cars. They also had super lates and vintage coupes. Quickly run program. 8 heats total, a B main for the sprints, and the 3 a mains. Done by 10:15. Home by 11:15. The way it should be.

By my understanding of the event advertising, it was a modifed only show for Friday but the headliner for Saturday was the ASCS sprints.  After having attended races for 39 of my 43 years, I'm pretty sure at this point I understand what's being advertised.

Also, the $10 ticket for Fridays modifed race as compared to the $25 ticket for Saturday with ASCS justifies the sprint headliner in my opinion.

Don't know about this year, but when I went last year it was billed as a sprint show.   I had no idea it was the big weekend for the modified show and sprints were just an added attraction.   I was pretty disappointed because I didn't find that out until I was already on the way out there.

The press release stated: "featuring the Ascs sprint cars plus limited mods and mods."

Now, I'm no English major, but that in no way lends itself to making one believe this was anything other than a sprint show with mods and limited mods as the support classes.

Just in case this goes unread due to being on the TMS update page........

For the second time in my life I walked out of a track without seeing most of the sprint car racing!

I understand TMS had weather issues on Friday as I live 45 min from the track.  But the manner in which the Sat night program was run was utterly mind-numbing.  I'm also not saying I have a better idea, but there needs to be better decision making going forward by the promoter.

Looking at the grandstands pre/post Sat night program, it was obvious the majority of the fans in attendance were there for the sprint cars.  As another indicator of fan attendance, it was $25 for the Sat night spint show with only another $5 for the Fri night modified show; so you can instantly see where the promoter figured who would comprise the front gate!

They took about 45 min from the end of the Friday program and reworked the track and it looked beautiful.  We then had to endure about another 25 minutes while Spanky Spangler Jr attempted to clip an infield light tower while flipping his 1970's POS into another pile of junkers.  I'm pretty sure the promoter never intended for him the come close to the light tower but they had lined 6 round-bales up just in case.  From my vantage point he oblitereated 2 of the round bales.

It's now 9:15p, next up sprint cars???  No way, you can't start the evening without another 5 B-mains for the modifieds.  Starting 16 cars for 12 laps and taking the top 3.

Finally, the sprint cars took to the track for hot laps around 10:35p.  I assumed they would head back to the pits for some minor adjustments and roll straight into heats.  NOPE!  More modifieds.  At this point I don't even remember what the race format was.

The sprints finally made it out for their heat races at 11:35p. Five heat races took probably 45 minutes in total.  George White was dumped coming out of 4 for the nights first red flag.  It was this point I noticed 3 push trucks lined up behind the field???

After the heats were over I was again hoping for a short break and roll straight into the B's as the talking heads in the press box had informed the crowd we had nothing but features for the remainder of the evening.  So whats the first feature to take to the trask, the first of 5 qualifying features for the limited modifieds.  Decided to try and wait it out and when George White proceeded to dump his modified into the same location in turn 4, damaging the fence in the process I hit the road.

Saw twitter feeds this morning that the races completed at 4:20a.  This was as stupid a call to run a program in this format as I can remember.  The was a constant exodus of fans throughout the evening. I understand the modified drivers have as much of a vested interest in the evening as the sprint drivers, but come on, the fans still deserve more in my opinion.

Sounds like I missed one hell of a feature, but I didn't want to entirely ruin my Sunday by getting back to the house after 5am.

TMS Dirt Track is a great facility and I will go back, but only if they've run the previous night show.  This was piss poor management of a show in my opinion.

We appreciate your feedback, and we agree that it was indeed a very long night. The bad news is that all types of races and outdoor events are subject to the weather and, this past weekend, the weather did not even begin to cooperate until after sunrise Saturday morning, leaving a lot of work to be done before racing could begin.

The good news is that the racing was top notch championship dirt track action making for a very exciting event with some "on your feet" finishes, and we are grateful for the many fans who did remain to see the three championship finals at the end of the night. We understand your concerns and hope that you will look back on the series of many successful events at Texas Motor Speedway sponsored by Port-A-Cool as we look forward to many more to come.

Just run the sprint cars first and allow the majority of the fans/families to be able to watch what they paid for. Save the mods and other stock car stuff for later. If I attended a show like this one at TMS and it was run in the way it was this past weekend, you would never get another penny from me-ever.

Cheers!

We went to the show in 2012 and did not attended in 2013 because the number of modifieds that were being run.  Until 2012, we had not been to TMS since they dropped the World of Outlaws.

To me there looks like there was no backup plan in place before the rains came.  I think that is where the major disconnect has been..... Always been told, Expect the best, but Plan for the worst.  I do not think the worst was planned for this time around and for future events someone needs to come up with a plan for when bad weather plays a factor.  I felt the Friday show should have been completely cancelled and run just a Saturday night show.  Have that publicized too, in case of bad weather either nights, here is how the racing is going to take place.

It makes to much sense, run the sprints first while the track is good and give the fans what they paid for. I will never take someone to the races again that has not been there before because of this insanity, you get to the track 30 minutes before the race starts and have to waste two to three hours of time watching something I would not go to if they paid me (ie) support classes. Then when the product you want to watch gets on the track the track is junk, this is one fan that is losing interest in this sport. I understand the need to build the back gate but why destroy your product it, doesn't add up, if you already have the money give the fans what they want, I was told that if the sprints were run first the majority of the people in the stands would leave after the main was run, thats probably true but how many fans does a track have without the sprints? So why hold the sprint fans hostage, why not try to build your fan base?

Here's a way to settle the "headliner" question.

Who got paid the most money for first place in their A Feature, the Sprints or the Modifieds?
