Granted I don't
care to watch F1 anymore but from what I do see they are just glorified carts.
shift with a thumb button? DRS? Flaps on the rear spoiler to open for less down
force? It does take balls to go that fast but the driver skillset is lower. They
push too many buttons. They have to many widgets where the car changes
performance and the guy in the seat drives the same style all the time. The cars
(carts) have more computer power than computers! I remember one year they had
Jeff Gordon and Montoya change cars for a few laps at Indy. Gordon said there was not
much to do in the cart since it shifted for you. He matched Montoya's time in
the cart. Montoya could barely drive the cup car because he did not know how to
downshift. He did not have the skills to drive it.

Actually, Kyle is an accomplished Kart racer who could have easily fit in with the F1 feeder series and eventually F1. Yeah, 200mph to 50mph and back to 200mph in the rain = BALLS!

You are entitled to your opinion, but please don't change the facts. Fact 1 - They don't shift with their thumb. And a paddle shifter isn't much different than using a sequential transmission.....Or, on a "super speedway" put it in 4th gear and hold your foot to the floor for 4 hours. Fact 2 - It takes more skill to turn left AND right AND make 40 or 50 shifts per lap AND do it in the rain, as opposed to turning left all day and banging out 40 or 50 shifts in 4 hours and rain? Park it. Fact 3 - More computer power than computers??? Uh.........Never mind......Fact 4 - F1 cars do not "shift themselves". Fact 5 - Gordon turned laps in Montoya's car at 1 minute and 17 seconds, that would have put him 4 seconds behind the Minardi, which was the laughing stock of F1 and qualified last. Fact 5 - Montoya's laps were within 3 seconds of Gordon's in the Cup car. Montoya has won the Indy 500, The Grand Prix of Monaco, the Rolex 24 and 1 or 2 NASCAR races. Yep, he has no skill sets....

hey pat, i remember gordon coming out of the F1 car and saying it up shifted by itself but he had to down shift it.

That was setup only for his test drive. It's against the FIA regulations to have auto shift.

Nascar,sprintcars dont race in the rain.F1 does remember SENNA,he was the best,sometimes even faster in the rain,i know not much passing,but F1 doesnt have fuel mileage races,They race,not conserve fuel,all three series are different,and they should be,cant be compared to each other.does anyone remember the last american to win races in F1 on a regular basis and compete for the title,it was a long time ago,possibly Peter Revson,Mario,were there any others?

I'm a lover of ALL things motorsport, from drags to dirt karts, MotoGP to speedway GP Bikes, and F1 to the outlaws. Anyone who for 1 second thinks driver's in F1 have it easy or a lower skillset than any top tier form of motorsport are either ignorant or stupid. No offence.. Fact.. Mario Andrette is the only American F1 Champion? Why? Because its not easy to drive a F1 car from any era and its a form of motorsport not traditionally pursued career path, dirt track-nascar as seen. Many times over.
Do I think Kyle could be a winner in F1, yes I believe he is that good. No I don't think any of the top 10 F1 pilots could win in Cup, its a different style than they ever ran, don't forget what Nigel Mansell did in 92-93 IIRC F1 champ then IndyCar/CART the next season.

+1 most of the blacktop cowboys in either series( f1 or nascar) couldn't do that.

You guys have to admit, Hamilton did drive the wheels off that Cup Car at Waltkins Glen... I thought he would be all over the place, but the kid wheeled it like it was normal.

One could hardly call him a lard ass. And Ganassi will never let JPM go, he gave Chip a CART Championship and his first Indy 500 win. You guys can bag on JPM all you want, but his resume is unmatched by anyone in NAPCAR.

Hawker, thank you for saying the things that need to be said. You don't have to be a fan of F1, but don't hate on it just because it isn't your cup of tea. I hate it when racing fans are so closed minded when it comes to different forms of motorsports. F1, Indy, NASCAR, Sprints, Touring Cars, Rally Cars, etc. I love them all.

Does your resume only have your most recent job on it? Mine doesn't, so let's take a closer look at JPM's resume....F3000 Champion - CART Champion - Indy 500 Winner - 2 NAPCAR wins - 3 Time Rolex 24 Winner - CART, Indy 500 and NAPCAR Rookie of the Year - 13 F1 Poles with 7 wins, including Monza & Monaco...Now, I could pull up a few resumes of some driver favorites in this forum who have been running NAPCAR for 10+ years who get 9 kinds of praise who aren't qualified to carry JPM's helmet bag, but I think you know who I'm talking about so there is no need for me to point them out. For anyone to slight JPM's accomplishments just shows that they are either un-educated in motorsports, just plain stupid, or in your case, just trying to stir the pot.  The losing of the seat was just in response to your derogatory JPM post, as it certainly appeared you were on a JPM rant... You won't find a bigger cheerleader for Larson than myself, I got the same pleasure as yourself to see him go fast before most of the world knew who he was and I am convinced that he will do great things in NAPCAR, but as a fan of nearly all motorsports, including being a huge fan of F1, I hate to see one of the few realistic shots that America has at having an American F1 driver with the ability to be a WDC, jump on the quick money in NAPCAR, instead of carrying a nation to many, many wins on the World's stage.

you are the one who started talking about montoya being out. as far as the comment on the seat, montoya could take over the pilsbury doughboy's job.
the resume is for the job he is trying to keep.
he hasn't performed.
now if chip wants to form an F1 or F2000 team he might keep montoya and send him to one.
yes montoya has done well in other forms of racing. so has dario, but he didn't last long in nascar.
so chip may keep montoya, but it might not be in cup. i never said chip was going to kick montoya to the curb.
the question is not what have you done for me, but what have you done for me lately, in nascar. except blow one of the biggest races of the year, twice.
the fact remains that chip has the fastest rising young driving talent in the country under contract, one who is already a nascar champion by the way, and one of the most under performing talents with a contract expiring. he darn sure didn't lock larson up just to farm him out.
someone has to go.
oh by the way, i am only stirring the pot a little. but only because i like talking with you
