I was never a fan of restrictor plate racing. Cars are way too close together at those speeds. Let's hope like crazy Larson's tire/wheel didn't kill anyone.

The power of the love of money and fame never ever ceases to amaze. Rational human beings wanting to be involved in such complete and total lunacy and then saying that its great is so sad. Kyle Larson would be better off working for 10 bucks an hour through the week and running a 358 at Selinsgrove.

Wow, NASCAR blocked the video of the wreck as I was posting it.
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

Driver of the 7 car is a moron. He stated he tried to throw a block so as not to finish second. AT 190 MPH, he was never gonna win anyway, being out in front on the last lap. It's a little different when your going let's say 100 mph or so or on a short track.
Lisoskifan your an ass.
Hope everyone is ok.

As I posted above, I was not aware of potential injury to fans. Hopefully, they and all the drivers are okay.
I have removed my earlier posts as a result.

How can you watch that wreck and not think someone may have gotten injured or killed?

In light of what I have learned since I started this thread (did not know fans were potentially injured at the time), I obviously wish I had not started the thread.
I also, hope and pray that everyone that was hurt returns to full health quickly. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

What is really sad is that the driver of the 7 car [regan smith] said he would do the same move again, like i said before, crash and kill to win a race, doesnt make sense does it.

I'm gonna cut L-Fan some slack..since he removed his post.
I'm wondering though...how much has the hatred expressed for Larson over the past couple of months had to do with his initial post?

I switched over to college basketball right after the wreck and did not realize how bad it was. Again, I apologize for taking a shot at Kyle Larson, in light of what happened. I NEVER wished any ill will to the health of any fans or drivers.

How can Daytona be NASCAR's top race? It just looked like rush hour freeway road rage at nearly 200 mph. Hope all fans injured are ok.

I am a little annoyed at the saturation in the media of this crash. It is just a part of the sport, cannot be avoided. However tragic, it is a reality we face and must move on without making it worse by bashing and finger pointing. I feel for the friends and families involved. BUT get over it and accept it, or go watch tennis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As of 6:40 pm est you can still watch the crash video on deadspin.com.Roll down a bit and the video is from a fan that was right where the tire landed. In the video you can see the one fan take his shirt off to help an injured fan.In the overhead picture you can see that same fan without his shirt on and the tire laying nearby. What upsets me is that Mike Helton came on the broadcast and said that everyone was fortunate because Nascar had several EMT's on the scene immediately after the crash attending to the injured fans. That is not what I see in the video and the photos. and in NO WAY IS THAT A KNOCK on the EMT's as I am sure they saved a few lives today ! .Prayers are with everyone involved !

First off.... thoughts and prayers to the people in the grandstands. Let's all hope and pray for the best possible outcome for all.
A truly horrific crash for Kyle that he was able to walk away from. NASCAR has done a fabulous job of protecting the drivers from harm. I think this shines a light on the inherit danger that the fans face as well. While everyone knows that crap can fly into the stands, no one expects it to happen. I think it is short sighted to say NASCAR is not concerned or trying to keep fans safe. Fans are the reason they exist - no fans, no sponsors, no sponsors, no TV. However, it's hard to test for something like this as well. You can bet they will make big time improvements moving forward.
Larson just continues to show why he is where he is. Leading the race and looking good doing it. No fear, no doubt. The kid can flat wheel a car of any sort. People need to stop hating on him and start to appreciate him and his talent. It is not many that can jump into the seat of any kind of car and win. I can only think a a couple lately...... Smoke and Kahne (though Kahne is a little dry on dirt).

Maybe another fence 3 ft from the track fence just as high. Things will probably still make it over but not through as easy. Did you see some people still standing next to the fence, Seen 1 with guy leaning on the fence or a post & some folks even running down to the fence when cars were spinning towards where they were coming down from.

Larson jumped out of that car in a hurry. He has a USAC race to attend....
I've been saying forever that these catch fences need some changes. NASCAR tracks have the best fences but they could be better. The fences at our race tracks need a lot of help.
|
Yeah, Larson gets the hell out of his car like any sprint car driver would. The Nascar drivers wait for the cameras to be on them to get out after combing their hair and making sure the sponsors hat is on rite.
I tell it like I see it.

When I first came on and read the title of the post and the first page, I was ready to rip lasoskifan a new one for being such an ignorant a-hole. However, I am over that now and actually commend him for removing his post and issuing an apology. It actually takes more guts to issue the apology than it does to troll, so thank you lasoskifan.
Now, for anyone to blame a driver for tearing stuff up in the big one at a restrictor plate race is like blaming someone for farting at a chili cook-off... it's gonna happen. I am just hoping everyone is going to pull through this one with no permanent life altering injuries.
