Here's what I heard...

Emmett understands that the cost to compete is now a threat, but he's not prepared to do anything about it.

Roush/Yates has done a good job of developing their ASCS platform, but at the end of the day, their extra effort is irrelavant. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize that $40k-$50k engines are unsustainable. Current pricing is already a limiting factor.

Emmett's lack of leadership will continue to fracture the ASCS. The word "Universal" will soon be a thing of the past. What's even more frustrating is the lack of alternatives.

The Racesaver series is the best alternative that I've seen to date, but I believe it's time to abandon the traditional "small block." We need to find a way to leverage new technologies in order to maintain performance, but more importantly, reduce costs.

The Ford's cost the same as a top of the line Chevy

What the point being made is the ford turns a few hundred more than the chevy, which will create more frequently rebuilt engines. Thats the expense thats not wanted

Guys/gals, I assure you that Emmett IS very concerned about having a level playing field. You just can't jump in and make a rule change mid stream. I promise you he is talking to manufacturers and gathering input before just jumping to a hurried decision.

I'm still waiting for someone to take one of the Nationwide Toyota engines and modify it for a 360 motor like Yates did with the Ford. That would get this forum jumping. (The Nascar Toyota engines are molded and built in the USA, so there is no need to pull the "not made in the usa" card.)

I don't get to many Silvercrown races being way out on the west coast. I was talking about in a winged sprintcar.

After reading that article, it looks like an Aluminum block 410 is in the works soon for Toyota.

Johnson said they never had reliability issues turning them more so maybe the Chevy guys should go to work on r and d to make theirs turn more and be reliable too... RY did the work on their end and now people are complaining

Yes im not taking away anything from ford. The chevys wont run as long as they do between rebuilds at the ford rpm.

Wesmar, I hope you're right. I agree/understand that rule changes can be tricky, but I think it's fair to say that most race teams can't take any additional cost pressure. Time is of the essence!

To those of you who are trying to twist this thread into a Ford vs. Chevy debate, are missing the point. Both versions of the ASCS power plant are ridiculously expensive. Emmett knows it; the race teams know it, and the price tag is now starting to hurt the business.

To Kelly's point, hopefully positive change is on the horizon!

Why do the Chevy's need to do some valve train work? Are they having problems?

The problem is a Ford is going faster than a chev. That is always something that needs eliminated quickly. I never fully appreciated how Ted Johnson stepped out of the boat and resisted kicking Luna's Ford program in the knee caps like most other famous auto racing "promoters" or should I say demoters in the last 50 years. JJR/Stenhouse/RY has a nearly impossible task to overcome this disorder among the sprint car community. I am amazed at the quality of the JJR/RY people however. They are getting it done.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

That Ford didn't go faster at Knoxville or at the Devils Bowl Winternationals.

Not that I have really heard of... People are just saying if they turn chevys like what the Ford's are they will only be an 8 to 10 motor. As far as im concerned wesmars are probably the most reliable engine there is
