Last year at the world of outlaws show at belleville in the middle of the 305? Feature all cars were at full speed and all the track lights went out...total darkness...was standing in the infield in turn 4 and my heart just started racing...will never forget that night...

70% of anything that has happened at I90 speedway in Hartford, SD could be considered "strange happenings".

On track (not mentioned so far) = WoO show canceled in OKC due to wind.

Off track = WoO show canceled in OKC due to Lanny Edwards not letting cars/haulers leave his track.

Both were in the mid/late 80's

The start of the US 500 at MIS on May 26 1996.

Jimmy Vasser won the first such race in 1996, which was notable for its disastrous start. With the cars lined up in rows of three (the traditional starting formation of the Indy 500), Vasser, on pole, was about to take the green flag at the start, when he was struck by Adrian Fernandez. Fernandez then tagged Bryan Herta, and the resulting accident took out a number of cars. Though ten cars had wrecked out, CART allowed teams to bring out backup cars and made repairs to heavily-damaged cars; this hurt the credibility of CART for allowing DNFs to come back out as though nothing had happened; years earlier Roberto Guerrero, the polesitter for the Indianapolis 500, crashed on the pace lap and was ruled a DNF. With the victory, Vasser won over $1 million and had his likeness inscribed onto the Vanderbilt Cup. In addition, an American flag was waved along with the twin checkered flags to end the race.

a few years ago at the gold cup in chico a push truck driver dropped his girlfriend off to go to the bathroom. well she ran back across the track to the infield right after the green flag flew for main. the leaders were just about to exit turn two. she made it barely. They threw the yellow for a complete restart.

At the South Dakota State Fair in 1971, the Huset's club was putting on their annual Super Modified races.

On the last lap of the feature, 2 cars tangled in turn 3 and ended up in the guard rail. Huron was a big 5/8 then, and had a flagstand, but "The Professionals" as they called themselves, were flagging from the track.

It was then the Huset's tradition to run a six lap Trophy Dash for the top 6 finishers in the feature. With 2 cars and 2 wreckers on the track the cars were sent out. After of couple of laps the flagman threw the green with all of the equipement and half a dozen officials still in turn 3. Everybody got slowed down.

UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Early 90's Jimmy Evans took the Motter 71 out of the park in turn 3 at Knoxville 747 style.

Maybe early to mid 80's Ned Frye came though the catch fence on the front stretch at about section J. Luckily no one was standing there at the time.

At an Outlaw show at Calistoga in the early 2000's one of the Chessons didn't want to mud in and the officials were hassling him about it so he jumped on his Mule, full suit and helmet and mudded in with that.

I just thought of one (OK more than one): Some time during the 90's at Calistoga Jim Richardson was tasked with doing the memorial lap for Gary Patterson. One lap slow and quiet of course then one lap at speed. Going down the back stretch headed into turn three the front of the top wing kicked up and Richardson flipped into turn three. As soon as someone got to him with a mic he said something along the lines of "Patterson would have loved that." Anyone that was there when Bradway cleared the fence in turn four and made it to the pond will never forget that. I wasn't one of them. Another one I heard was that Anthony Simone cleared the fence at Calistoga and hung it up in a tree - upside down. According to the legend he was uninjured until let the belts loose and he fell out of the car breaking his collar bone. Bobby Buehler trying to go through the fence when his throttle stuck in turn four during qualifying in 1989 was impressive. I will always say that downtubes saved that boy's life was they were severely bowed by the car tying to go through the then wood fence. Memorial Day Weekend in 1989 they couldn't get the power to come on for Saturday but they ran until the sun went down while they tried to figure that out. When they couldn't get the power to come on for the lights they told everyone to go home and pretty much forget anything happened. By then Sparky Howard had won the trophy dash and when they tried to take the trophy back from him he essentially said "Screw you - a win is a win and I'm keeping it."

Back in the 60's at Wilmot, WI, they used to have a race at the end of the night where people could just bring their street cars and race them. Too many beers, too much testerone resulted in a lot of crumple up cars.

Another time, the pace car was parked in the center of the track and was hit by a race car in a heat race.

Seen a water truck turn over about 10yrs ago, I can't remember exactly when or where though.

I-90 Speedway @ Hartford, SD turned a water truck over on its side on the topside in 1 turn approximately 5-6 years ago. Don't know if that's the one your thinking of.

The girl at the Gold Cup in Chico got HIT by Lance Blevins and it was before the start of the B-Main. She flew at least 10 - 15 feet in the air. Lance was putting some heat in the motor entering turn 1 and was flying when he came out of 2 and she was right there, she got clipped by one of the rear tires, forget which one.

I think it may have been the same night but there was a B-Main at Chico during the Gold Cup that only went 2 official laps. A driver (whom I can't remember) from the front row caused the first caution, went to the rear and still transferred due to another 5 or 6 cautions and 3 reds, weirdest thing I'd ever seen at a race. One of the cautions took out 6 or 7 cars from the same lane which is how the guy got back to the front without really having to pass anyone. Dave Blaney had flipped in his heat and was the only big dog in the race and I think Lance may have been the only other regular in it but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. The place was full, somebody must remember it better than moi, it was a Blue Maui night, lol.....
