The first win that I remember was in a midget at Chico. But I'm getting old and memories are getting fuzzy :-)

You might be right, that his first Norm DePlume win was in a midget. My recollection his first win was in a sprint car. Now you got me thinking if it was a midget or sprint car. Oh well, does anyone know what sprint car Luke Warm Water's first win came in? It wasnt Henderson's 7n.

Luke Warmwater was in Jerry Ponzo's blue #12J.
When he was interviewed by Bobby Gerould after the win Bobby played it straight for a while. A lot of fans were thinking they saw some unknown hot shoe from Arkansas coming to the left coast to make a name for himself.
Then Bobby said, "Some people think you bare a striking resemblence to Jimmy Sills." Luke said, "yeah, I get a lot of those comments!" Jimmy then went on a tare winning in sprints, midgets, and what ever else he could get a ride in. . . .
Edit!
Just checked the archives . . . it was friday May 12, 1989. Luke started inside 2nd row next to BK. He took the lead from Bobby McMahan with an outside pass in T-1 & 2 on the 13th lap.
Awe yes . . . . "in the good old days!"

Oh yeah - Chico.
Dennis Gage was the talker and he played along with the joke knowing it was Jimmy.
I ran into Jimmy at the pit gate that afternoon but, he didn't let on to me what his new name was! I had done a video the October before at Baylands where Dave Vodden had him on the flag stand to present him with a plaque commemorating the retirement of a future "Hall of Famer!"

Weren't rookie stripes flying as well? Seem to remember that..he had retired "officially" at Baylands as the all time winningest driver there. Vodden played that up to much fanfare, a plaque, etc. His retirement ride? A special one race only car for that race at Baylands owned by Marks & Kepler, numbered 21 and flying the Kodiak chewing tobacco sponsorship. He finished third.
