I'm not sure what the other tracks are charging this week but Brill's a bargain at their regular admission rates which is all they are going to charge tomorrow: $25 pit pass, $10 grandstand. Good deal! They also say it's off and on showers at the track right now but that if the forecast holds for tomorrow (NO chance of rain for tomorrow afternoon, SUNNY and high of 92), then it's all good to go!!!
Thunderbird says Sport Mods can run their 500 tires and race with the E-Mods Wednesday night which should make things pretty even. E-Mods run asphalt pull-offs there, don't they?

Now that was a good race once we finally got it going. I mean the last 20 laps of that SMP Modified A-main last night was caution-free and as good as it gets racing-wise! Race winner Randy Timms, Jesse Stovall and Alan Chickering gave us a terrific 3-car battle for the lead for much of it. Throw in William Gould and Patrick Linn doing their part inside the top five as well. At one point, you could throw a blanket over the whole top five. There was good racing in the mid-pack as well with 3-wides happening pretty regular. Track was a little rough but overall I was impressed with how the Brill Motor Speedway surface performed in my first visit there in the features even if there wasn't a lot of passing in the heats. That A-main more than made up for that!
The only thing that would have made it better would be if we ran it before 11PM instead of after 12. A 2-class show even if there were 75 cars between them should get done sooner but this all new. New series at new track -- they're new to each other. Couple things caused the lateness.
Started late. Not always a bad thing when temps are mid-to-upper 90s in July though. You do risk using up the track before dark when it's that hot. And with 52 Modifieds on the first night of a Speedweek, there's a lot of registering to do. I think Michael, Brandon, Ben and the SMP gang will start hitting their stride better tonight in Muskogee. The drivers will start getting used to the SMP way of doing a show too.
The other part though was the Sport Mod/E-Mod/B-Mod A main. 20 of the 22 cars started it and they seemed to spin a lot and wreck each other a lot. The wreckers seemed slow to respond at first but did step it up later. There also seemed to be a lot of courtesy laps for cars in the 'hot pit' area. Then one bad wreck caused a red flag. Then a black flag. And then the driver the ambulance went to get, got back in his tore up car and finished the race after a pretty hard lick on the backstretch! All of that added up to a Sport Mod A main that took forever with the SMP Mod last chance race (won by John Webb of Paul's Valley) and the SMP A-main still left on the program.
There were 4 cautions -- nothing serious -- in the first 10 laps of the 30-lap Modified A-main and I started to get scared that the same affliction that hit the Sport Mods was spreading but then...
Those Modified showed us all how to race those last 20 laps. That was awesome and has me looking forward to TONIGHT at Stanley Slater's big, flat 1/2 mile Thunderbird Speedway at the Muskogge Fairgrounds to see if Timms -- who has a win there in 2010 -- can make it 2-in-a-row!
I would definitely give Brill another visit. I hope SMP returns there in 2011 and maybe even a USMTS show possibly??? I know that would be cool to see after watching what I saw last night at Brill!!!
With two-to-go, Stovall was leading and went to the inside of a lapped car and Timms went to the outside. They had already traded the lead earlier and with early race leader Chickering too who still was in the hunt at this point. The leaders came off four with the lapped car between them in three wide fashion with the white flag waving when Stovall suddenly slowed and drove into the infield. Not sure what happened to Jesse.
I'm sure Ben and Michael will get something official uploaded soon but UNOFFICIALLY, I had the finish as Timms, Chickering, Gould, Tommy Weder, Jr. from way back, Linn, Hunter Rasdon, Jeremmy Ross and Chad Davis also rallying from way back. EXCELLENT SMP ACTION!!!

Talked to Stovall on the infield after he got out of his car and he said he lost the motor.

That's too bad. He helped make that show and obviously was a big part of it.

Hook, in your opinion what did you think of Brill's. I know you said you would be back but i would like to hear from a first time visitor.

Not bad. The surface obviuosly can support a great race. Try to start on time but I'd rather have an 8PM start for a midweek show this time of year anyway. And they may not have that problem on their regular race night when everyone is familiar with each other. 2 classes was the right call.
Facility wasn't bad either. I like the lawn chair area. Wreckers seemed slow or 'not enough?' during those early cautions in the heats. That did seem to get better later in the show. Lord knows the Sport Mods/E Mods kept them busy. To keep the show moving, cut back on those courtesy laps. Guess they can't go green with a car in the hot pit though, can they? I didn't see a line-up board so I assume they were using raceceivers or did they have a board on the backstretch?
Crowd? Well, it appeared to be around 300 to 350 each on both sides of the track.
They probably could have/should charged $30 in the pits instead of 25 and they wouldn't have lost a car. Maybe a Sport Mod or two.
$10 was good for the grandstand side though. I'd come back again for the right show.

Well the advertising for the event was not a full blown assult. Alot of word of mouth type of stuff. I still thought the crowd was pretty good for a Tues night rcae. The line up board is over by the concession stand in the pits and they do use raceceivers as well.
