KOP,I was told last night by A fairly reliable source that when asked most of the teams would like to stick with USAC next year
I don't know if this is the case but I found it very interesting.
ROB
BTW they would not let me start the main because my AM radio did not meet USAC's specs

Did the source say what the alternative was? Must of been a really bad option. LOL
Ya know, if you wouldn't of been such a tight wad and forked over a few bucks for their radio, you could of took the green in your 4 door hot rod, pulled off the back stretch and collected the starting money. Then you would have come out ahead. Oh yea, that would of required you having to do some math huh? LOL

Looked to me like Jones lifted earlier than usual.... don't know about the brakes but you see the blue flame out of the exhaust when he lifted...... Hansen reminded me of a young Jeff Gordon years ago & IRP when he rode a wheel just like that, actually much higher & longer & somehow landed it without damage & won the race.
Both Jones & Hansen were lucky to continue without suspension damage/ flats. Hell of a race.... I was pullin' for the Ripper.......kinda like the Socal version of Brent Kaeding.
Hope everyone shows up in Stoga, except Al.Boner....... unless he brings his BMX bike & his Birthday suit

not to change the subject, but Don K. announced at the driver meeting that he would be cutting the money down for the nationals.. something like, he normally pays $90k to the field and this year will be $60k.. You think that will change the turn out? Will it still be $30k to win?
BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS!....OH YEAH..AND EMPTY POCKETS.

Wonder if pit passes and tickets will go down 30%? Sure it will. Just as gas will go down 30% this week. LOL
As for your question if it will change the turnout, a 30% decrease in ANY purse will change a turnout.
TURN4ROB....DONT have a heart attack on us now OK? LOL

It was nice meeting you in the pits Rob. Maybe you will change your mind and head out for Calistoga next weekend.

Hmm that isn't good news, you would think that with the competition for the entertainment dollar so fierce that Mr. K would understand that it takes money to make money. By cutting the purse for a national race, all he is doing in stepping on his d*ck. I understand that economics are tight, but resigning your approach to solving this problem to cut backs aren't going do anything except postpone the negative.
In hard economic times you need to examine the product you are selling, figure out how to make it better to the people that you are selling to, and do what it takes to sell it. Add Value.
Add value, see here is an idea that I have been working on for a while. Currently in my industry the cost of material inputs has increased in some cases over 400% since January, due to a weak dollar and these materials being in high demand in other markets. It has forced myself to go back to the drawing board and decide how I can offer my clients the products they need to be successful, while mimizing the perception of diminished value due to increased costs compared to the value of the same products one year ago?
I have to find a way to sell these things to feed my family and spend time at the races.
First step is to examine your product, cut the fat, but don't reduce your offering to your client or business partners. Then look for a way to offer your client something more, an added service, more information on something important to their operation, do something to show that you appreciate their participation and support.
Here is a good example, Gas - we are all getting screwed on that one, but lets say that a station in your town said "we understand that prices are high but we want to offer something move for doing business with us", and they then got their staff off their asses and out to the pump and washed your windows while you fill up. That is an added value that I would return to that station for, as opposed to going somewhere else at the same price. It doesn't offset the price but I will spend my money where I feel I get the most value, and in that case I will have clean windows.
Mr. K needs to consider the product he wants to offer for the Oval Nationals and decide if he wants to decrease the value of his product by cutting the purse and weakening his position with his business partners (the racers) where they are less likely to participate and therefore reduce the value of the product you are selling to your clients (the fans). The ask if this approach is short sighted or it will result in sustainable business for years to come?
Honestly, it isn't an easy choice, and involves a lot of risk. But he then needs to look at how you can add value to his product, make it more interesting to the fans. Which will help the fans maintain the perceived value, and continue to do business with you.
I will say that I feel that PAS is a premier facility and every-time I have been there I am always impressed by their operation, and they generally provide the fans with an excellent product. So the slash and burn approach to Oval Nationals surprises me.
Thanks for your time
Butch Brazil

I'm a Tony Jones fan............BUT...............At the track and on the video, the move on the backstretch looked like an intentional attempt to take Hansen out. To my eyes it was a more blatant example of the subtle move that Hansen put on Sheriden on the frontstretch a couple of months ago when Sheriden flipped hard into turn one. Hansen was lucky he didn't go over Saturday night. Paybacks are a bitch but let's hope this ends this war.
Congratulations to Tony and the whole Alexander team for a well deserved and long overdue win.

I was that way until Saturday night's main event. The lack of entries made the 3 heat races boring as there was no wheel-to-wheel racing at all. That changed when the A main got underway. Racer88 travel to Calistoga and it's scarey fast half-mile this weekend for some terrific non-wing racing. It might cure your boredom.
BTW here is a list of some of the missing teams last Saturday night.
Alex Schutte (Ventura?), Todd Hunsaker, Ronnie Case, Seth Wilson (Victorville winner), Nic Faas (USAC Midgets), Rodney Argo, Cory Kruseman (injured in the midwest), Rickie Gaunt, Jordan Hermansader, Henry Clark (Ventura), J. Hicks (Rose was in the #66), Austin Mero (Ventura), Greg Bragg (Sertich #92), Ross Millar, Jonas Reynolds, John Aden (Blair #12) and Nadine Gardner (retired?).

Here's a question for you bonehead. When does a sprint car driver - any sprint car driver - slam on his brakes with a clear run in front of him? Answer me that you little goof.
|
what a dork were you born yesterday ? if you cant see it in plain sight at the track and on video and watch it over and over and over and over and over you might catch it someday

After seeing the video I agree, Hanson would have
cleared Tony on the inside if Tony hadn't backed off
for some reason.
Is the PAS going to make an official announcement
on the purse decrease?

Just conjecture on my part ,but all things being equal I think Mr.K is being realistic about the ovals.I wouldn't be suprised to see a car count drop that may justify a two day show with possilby a return $10000 to win purse.....travel is expensive ,so enjoy the great racing we have and look forward to an upswing sometime in the future.....it could be worse

Does this mean you are finally admitting that Hansen did the same thing to Sheriden a couple of months ago on the front straight, or should you be going to the optician with RadRob?

A) Those sky high concession prices would drop some if people stopped paying the current prices. It's all marketing folks. If the public pays, they will keep on charging the going rates! Do what T-4 Rob does, strap a Subway sammich to your inner thigh (that'll get him frisked...LOL).
B) Lets not begrudge the drivers now. They and their car owners are the ones most effected by any purse cut backs.
