Sprots Mods, if teched and policed properly is the way to go, we have several Modified drivers that have moved down to that class at Elk, all the cars are pretty evenly matched its the drivers getting the set-up right for the conditions of the track that counts the most. The Modified drivers don't dominate the class at all, on any given night you have a chance to win. If you want to go to a big race away from home and you have stayed within the rules set out by IMCA then you have just as good a chance of winning as anyone else there. We go to at least 3 to 4 different tracks a season to race and to visit with friends we have meet at these tracks and it has been awsome.

They just need to keep the rules in line and tech them all the time so that it stays equal and not a who's got the money game.

my 2 cents

in time, modifieds, as they are today will go the way of the Late Models of the past. They will become a touring series. I remember the first time I saw one of those ugly things at Enid. I thought those poor guys, if that is all I had to race, I might not race. I had only paid 7500. for my new SWS chassis and $9500. for my Kline 406. Got my butt kicked by the "big dogs". But this was the cost of racing in the mid 80's. In time the money ran out and I sold out.

A customer of mine last year bought a new TRE mod thru my shop. Car on the ground less engine and trans $13500. I do not know what he paid for the engine, but at the time an ASI engine was $12500. The car was raced at Elk City and won many features there. The cars is for sale for $20000.00

From the stands the" general "fan cannot tell sport mod from a full mod, but the owners can!

New HDR roller is about $12500.00, I believe, legal JR Modorsports engine about $3500.00. You do the math. If you so much as bump anyone in a modified you spent at least $100, in a limited you spent $50.

I tell my customers about limiteds "LIMITEDS ARE FASTER THAN YOU THINK, LIMITEDS COST MORE THAN YOU THINK, LIMITEDS ARE NOT A BEGINNERS CLASS, RACING IS FUN!!!!, AND IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THE FUN PART, THE COST WILL EAT YOUR LUNCH.

Should the mod drivers be allowed to drop down, of course they want to have fun too

Ive raced mods and sprints since 2000 and i will be going to sport mods next year if all goes as planned..  The cost of living and the cost of a competative modified is getting ..(no has gotten) out of hand for me..  You could go and spend 8000 for a competative engine for a modified or 2000 for a competative sportmod engine... The sportmod is only about a 1/2 a second slower on a dry track...

call me a cherry picker or a sand bagger, or what ever,, it all come down to the root of all evil ,,,,,MONEY.....

I drive a Sport Mod at Enid Speedway Park, and this is my first year to ever race a full size car. I raced go-carts for a few years before I got the chance to get a car last fall. I like the rules that the sport mods have in place and agree that they need to stay very close to where they are to keep the class affordable. Right now I have a $2500 motor and a Gould chassis and have done very well. We have been teched very hard at Enid since I got the car last year. We have had to pull a head and pull the transmission so far this year and the last race of last year we had to pull the oil pan. I hope they continue to tech hard in order to keep the class in check and I hope anywhere else I go techs hard as well.I also do not want to see them start allowing floater rear ends and other costly chassis upgrades.

If anybody wants to see some very good Sport Mod racing, Head on over to Enid on Sat nights. They whole show is very efficiently run and normally there are not a lot of cations in the Sport Mod class, like has been stated earlier in the thread. Excellent racing in all classes.

#85 Limited Mod!! THAT JUST HAPPENED!!!
