I will have to admit, Bush has been a horrible disappointment, BUT (thank God) he is not running for President this year.

I am sure, with all of his faults, that Bush is still better than Gore or Flipper (the war hero lol) would have been.

I have serious doubts that any one elected official anywhere has the power to control our prices at the pump, ex oil man or not.

Another thing to remember is that this stupid war was declared with the support of Congress, who continues to fund it.

I believe the people of the country need some Civic lessons, and some Government classes to understand how America has checks and balances on darn near everything.

The same people who voted for the war are now saying it should never have been started yet they voted to start it.

Only in America, can we have a poor selection like we have this year, a blatant racist who lies and says he is not, a total lier who doesn't even know when she was shot at, and an OLD war hero who has lost touch with reality.

This will not be an election of the best, it will again be a choosing of the lesser of evils.

cut taxes for the rich? mr sprint57, over 45% of my income went to state and federal taxes last year, just what percent of your's went. I don't get the $300 handout you'll probably be getting this year, and most of the tax breaks you realize, like standard deductions for your children if you have them, have been taken away from me. So while the overall top tax rate of 39% may be a little lower than in the past, many of the deductions are gone, result is higher taxes.

Just curious, how much of my income do you feel is fair for the government to take? Congratulations for being successful in America son, I'll take half of what your making! Chances are you have no idea that the top 5% of earners paid over 80% of the taxes in this country. It's an easy vote to get telling simple minded people we'll take more from someone else and give it to you when you're talking to the 95% that are paying 20%. The truth is, a huge number of American's pay far less than 10% of their income in taxes, many even pay nothing, yet still bitch that someone who is paying over 40% got a "Break".

You're not happy with your economic situation? Good news, we still live in the greatest country in the world, where the only limits placed on your future comes from your own simple mind. Study hard, work hard, start a business and you too can be paying over 45% in taxes because you're income will be in the top 1% of the population, but guess what the government or your union isn't going to give you this income, you have to go earn it. You don't have to agree with me, but just don't tell me I'm not doing my fair share when I see the size of the checks I write every three months compared to the size of the check you write every three months.

ps-the top 20% you're wanting to take from, the next few percent of the rich person's income going to taxes, might be the hourly or salary wage you're making that he now has to pay in taxes, so you're out of a job. Work for yourself and not someone else, well then the money the person who was going to hire you to do the job that keeps your business going, may just be the next few percent of that persons income you think is ok to take and give to the government, who by the way will not be responsible with it, they'll just find a new way to piss it down the drain and then still want more.

By the way, a rich person is usually someone who simply has more than you, I'm sure there are plenty of people that think you are wealthy if you have more than them. I'm sure if you race, they probably think you could be paying more in taxes instead of pissing away your your income on a new right rear every Saturday night. It's all a matter of perspective my friend. I'm sure many people who race take a tax writeoff as some kind of phantom business expense, so maybe racing is contributing to our tax problem and we should eliminate any deductions from claiming your racing hobby is actually a business. Or the sponsorship dollars going to a race team shouldn't be able to be written off, careful what you wish for, they may be coming for your income next.

Mr. Bahama, nice to see someone reads what I write. The top tax rate in 1960 was 95%. That's higher than needed now. Not everyone is qualified to run a business or wants to. The top 5% paid 80% of the taxes because they had over 80% of the income.

The half of my comment you missed was on the spending side. The Pentegon spends money and doesn't know where it goes. They haven't been able to perform an audit in over 10 years. Mr. Bush and others want to put us into a perpetual state of war to keep the Military Industrial Complex running. Pres. Eisenhower warned us about this. We can't afford to spend money this way. $800,000 cruise missles are nuts. One pop for a million $. Every generation of military airplane costs 50 times the price of the last one. We have the biggest military machine in the history of the world or maybe just the most expensive. But we are Bankrupt. Out of money. Spend more than we take in. Why are we afraid of a 2 bit operator like Binladen? We survived 30 years of nuclear missles pointed at us from Russia. Now that was something scary. What we have now is fear of terrorists to replace fear of communists so we can fight a perpetual war. It needs to end.

Mr Congress has the money strings not Mr Bush. No money no war. Thats your Senator/Rep and mine that we all just love and vote for every time, because they are just wounderful. As long as we all keep doing that we will have a big pile of shit in Washington getting off calling each other names forever. It don't matter if its Rep or Dem. By the way Obe and Hill billy now are backing off bring the troops home now and wave the white flag. So nothing will change except more taxes. These 3 are the best we could come up with for presedent is sad and how stupid we all are.. Demand on oil will just keep going up and congress will not let oil co do anything but they will bitch about it. Who has blocked the drilling and to build more refinerys. The world is setting the price, congress has a choice take care of the US or do nothing. Guess what they will do. BITCH AND BLAME BUSH and do nothing. Give us more regulations we will soon look like USSR. If the Feds don't get you your state will.

Mr. Bush got everything he wanted from congress for 6 years. That's why he deserves the blame.

your use of sensible statements and facts are way over the heads of most of the ones who you are trying to reach. if they had the ability or desire to recognize what you put forth, they would have done so without your help. they are too willing to turn their lives over to someone else to try to solve their problems and then complain when it is not done to their satisfaction. they may all not follow the other sheep off a cliff, but they will starve on top of it not knowing how, or taking the insentive to find their way down.

Bill walks into his bedroom with a sheep under his arm and says:
"Darling, this is the pig I have sex with when you have a headache."

Hilary is lying in bed and replies: "I think you'll find that's a sheep,
you idiot."

Bill says: "I think you'll find that I wasn't talking to you."

sprint 57 is right on, could not have said it better myself! I just read on msn that the gap between the rich and poor is growing, big surprise I know. The only way we will ever get out of this 9 trillion dolalr hole is by cutting spending AND raising taxes. The problem is you have to promise the exact opposite to get elected. If there is a silver lining to the current price of oil, it is that soon it will be so expensive to ship goods from China that we will be forced to bring some of our manufacturing base back to the US.

nodust, I don't see how you could possibl;y think that we are better of with Bush than we would have been with Gore. For one, we wouldn't be stuck in this war. That would mean 500+ billion wouldn't have been wasted and thousands of lives wouldn't have been lost. We would still have the respect of our peers around the world. Second, we might actually be paying down on the debt instead of skyrocketing it. Funny that the current Republican candidate also believes in global warming and his talk of boosting our economy with green technology is exactly what Gore campaigned on 8 years ago. I do agree that the candidates, once again, leave a lot to be desired.

First on all, we have no "peers around the world", just fair weather friends who are jealous of what we have and who are allies only when they need us.

Second, we "might actually be paying down the debt". Yeah, right and maybe pigs would fly.

But, I might be wrong, after all Al Gore said he invented the Internet.

I thought the Dems said if they got control of Congress they'd get gas prices down. Gas prices have went up a buck since the election in Nov of 06. That's progress.

Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

Missed a point: The use of oil is doubling every three years in India and China. 2.4 billion, yes billion people in those two countries. A decade ago, those two countries used very little oil. Almost half the world's population in two countries that are modernizing very rapidly. Gas is not going to go down, but go up and a long way up. In ten years we will be paying what they pay in Europe for gas.

On the news today it was said that Brazil could have an oil field off there coast that could have 33 billion barrels of oil if not more, in other words the 3rd largest reserve in the world.. Do you think we will buy from them after it's developed rather than the rag heads? Doubtful.. Remember they offered to sell ethanol to the US when Bush was down there a few months ago but he turned down the offer saying we have no need for it..

Duane - no one has gotten anything done lately. well - except for steroids hearings and bailing out Bear Stearns for their shoddy business practices.

nothing gets done because of piece of shit party politics. anyone still subscribing to this 2 party bullshit needs a swift kick in the ass. both sides are so polar opposite that nothing can get done unless one side holds a 60% majority - and everytime that happens we pay like all hell for it because whatever party has it then is able to put their own agenda into motion - thus alienating the other half. to even get the 60% a lot of greedy shit takes place. The republicans are like the damn antichrists - and the democrats are a bunch of turncoats. they bought into everything sold - and probably got big money like the reps did ------- but now because they want to get elected - they whistle different tunes. If the dems were ever close to legit - they would have steadfastly lynched this administration for what they have done to the constitution and why --------- but in truth - the dems did right along with em.

so screw republicans and conservatives. and screw democrats and liberals. this country will go down because of party politics. I refuse to be swindled as easily as the other 98% of US citizens who just line right up at the trough to suck this bullshit down. and while we are at it - screw the media outlets that rep both parties as well. they all suck - although I do have to admit - every person associated with Fox News should be waterboarded - remember it's not torture and it's legal. seriously the french had the Guillotine as their trademark against those in power who let them down -------- we have waterboarding. we should use it against the right people!

nevermind - don't listen to me. I'm just prejudiced against Tuesdays. we should have tuesdays declared as torture and include IT into the field manual. Or we could put Tuesdays up on trial for sedition! I'm a threat to national security on tuesdays.......................have I gone too far? where exactly?

... the studies have been done ... $4.00 gas slows the USA but $5.00 stops us ... the "idea" is to slide into a recession for the good of the USA & dollar ...

With the leadership (or lack of) that your party has, it makes me think of a dorm party, lots of noise, a few people getting screwed, but really nothing much accomplished.

Your party will really be SOL for the next 8 years as you sit on the sidelines wondering how did you screw up so bad and choose the 2 biggest dirt bags in history to run against an old (but wiser) man.

HUGE bigot and a smiling LIAR seems to me like a piss poor selection out of 200 million people to choose from.

Watch out for the sniper fire and have a fantastic day as Obumas days get worse and worse, and Billarys were never good.

If I didn't dislike dust so bad, I would say, shake these two dirtbags out on a race track someplace and let them be useful for the first time in their lives lol lol lol

After Chelsea returned from a date, Hillary asked her if she had a good time.

Chelsea said she had a wonderful time and thinks she's in love.

Hillary said, 'You didn't have sex, did you'?

Chelsea said, 'Not according to Dad.'
