Here's a few shots of a 1985 Nance from N. Nevada that ran in 2004 with the CASA asphalt sprinters at Champion Speedway, and the USAC dirt show that was at Reno-Fernley Raceway that year. An interesting thing about this particular chassis is that it was built with widened upper frame rails to except a big block. I'm not sure of the history of this car, but have heard from a few different sources that it was built specifically for Sammy. Anyone know this for sure?

After looking at your shot of Bubby's ride, the #4 that I posted shots of looks like the same car! It also has the widened chassis rails for the big block application. Was this a common thing on Nance's?

They also widened the frame rails to accept a ford.

Brian,

I was actually looking for a street legal one or one that we could convert. Shoot me an e-mail if you have anything.

Remember Sammy went to Beadle and a Gambler chassis in '83. By 1985 although Nance was still a major player in the WoO, they were shifting focus to the local markets around the country while Trostle and Challenger(Stanton) were tooling up to take on Gambler. By 1987 Nance was looking at what I think was the beginning of the 360 sprints which were then known as

next generation IMCA sprints.

Here we have Rickey in 1988 with the design after my target year. Note the difference in the cage bends. In some ways this frame goes back to what was more conventional for it's time.

The movement at the time was going to more stiffer chassis like an idea that Karl Kinser came up with here. Nance simply wanted to stay traditional

The last time I saw this car was with a wing after it sold and was going through Devils Bowl for an open comp show. That was the same weekend Sammy Swindell and Hillenburg first brought out the

black and gold TMC cars. By the way, one of the Kinser no. 11 cars was there under the same pretenses too.

Found one! Get this, the serials on the front tube say

NANCE 1-87-1

I think this means I have the 1st Nance made in 1987. I'll take it.

Turns out there were 3 Bromme cars during those days.

I once saw Bubby Jones come through here with a red nance in the mid '80s (Bromme?). I have always like this model of Nance since the first time I saw one. These days it's almost impossible to find a good example of one.

Note- The "rake" of the top of the roll cage is what does it for me. These cars were built between 1985 to 1987.

here is a 1985 nance listed on ebay that you may have to have. the seller says he has 3 , http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/85-NANCE-VINTAGE-SPRINT-CAR-ROLLER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a543Q7c66Q3a4Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem170278935199QQitemZ170278935199QQptZRaceQ5fCarsQ5fNotQ5fStreetQ5fLegalQ5f

Nice car. This one does not have the bulge in the upper frame rails like the later ones. I like rodzy look of these cars. I now have one, need to be good and okay with that one since they do cost money.

This is where it gets confusing for a while when chasing one. The Legend of there being only 3 widened for big block/Ford/Chevy engines. This car doesn't seem to be widened like the '87s. Still, I wouldn't mind mine looking this good.
