Hmmmmm. I’m not sure if I've ever seen anybody wearing a Schatz T-shirt. I just assumed they were illegal here.
|
One of the busiest souvenier trailers you see at an Outlaw show-----at least the ones I've been to in WI, IA, and IL. I would say 10-15% of the racing t-shirts I see at the Knoxville Nationals are Schatz shirts. I'm assuming it's the region. I don't think his souvenier sales are lacking. (I've never been a customer, just giving my observation)

I wonder how many total wins Kinser, Wolfgang, or Swindell have. Steve had Karl, which might be the best crew chief ever. Donnie had Ricky Warner who I'm pretty sure used to work for Karl Kinser. Ricky might be the second best crew chief ever. Just shows you how much the crew chief means to the success of their careers. Karl even made Kraig look good.
|
Steve was plenty competitive without Karl after coming back from the Bernstein NASCAR fiasco. He also came from the tail a couple of times to win in Johnny Vance's cars during the early 4-Crowns...also without Karl. For my money...only what I've seen with my own eyes...Steve was and is the King with Schatz right in the conversation with Sammy and Wolfgang for runner-up.

I think it's called going to school. Later, what a sight seeing the Blue Beacon Truck Wash hauler pulling into a race track close to you!
|
I remember seeing him race a regular Saturday night show at Selinsgrove ('96 or '97 I think) when he was a rookie with the outlaws. I didn't even know who he was.

500 wins is impressive I do not question that. Unfortunately we all have opinions, and never will agree were any driver ranks in history. Personally, I would have liked to see foyt, Andretti and a few others with power steering and a wing. You look at the cars throughout history steve was winning during a time when crew chiefs and builders had new idea's hitting tracks on a regular basis. Take tires into account, sidewalls did not flex, cast blocks with alum heads boy you had the hot set up. 10K was unheard of for a motor. So we get to DS 500 wins, he will be in hall of fame with all the greats. I give steve the nod because he came up thru a time when change was everywhere. His adjustment to change is what I think gives him the nod as the king. My question is who will be the next great one.

The Wild Child was and is popular still. He has STAR talent which Schatz does not. Again, just my opinion. Not talking about tshirt sales. I would also be wondering where the other wins make up 500.
Ascot was the greatest of all time..
West Capital wasn't half bad either..
Life is good...

I agree with your Mt. Rushmoreof drivers. Donny had a great career, just not over the last handful of years.
Let's go Sprint Car Racing!
Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

Something like 8 drivers have won a Knoxville Nationals and a Kings Royal in their entire careers, Schatz re-accomplished this feat in the last 2 years.
I'll have to check if Eliason has done something similar in the last couple of seasons...

I don't believe your stats. Someone on this board is pretty persistent about the fact that Schatz cannot win without Ricky. Therefore, Schatz has not won a race in the past few years. To tell us differently is fake news.
Meanwhile, Rico has been piling up wins at a pace we've never seen before, although to the average fan, his winning percentage may seem to be about right where it was before. A trained eye can see Ricky has completely changed Rico from the Rico of old, who was usually running towards the front, and a threat to win, to a guy who now is usually running towards the front, and a threat to win. Huge difference that cannot be interpreted without a trained, skilled eye. Ricky takes guys we've never heard of----like Rico---and turns them into legends. It makes me wonder----Should it be Ricky on Mt. Rushmore holding a picture of Schatz?
I looked up Eliason's stats and it doesn't list his King's Royal or Knoxville wins anywhere when he must have won these events----or at least I've been lead to believe he's at that level. I'm assuming these sites have not updated lately.

I own two also, both Parker Stores pre-TSR days. Got one the night in Tucson, Arizona when the snake invaded Terry McCarl's pits... that was hillarious, so I bought my one and only Terry McCarl shirt that night too.

I'm from PA and I wear Schatz stuff. He races clean and you absolutely have to respect that. If he wins, he most likely earned it. Plus, I do like riling up some of the dumber/ignorant residents of the 717.

I'll take championships and nationals wins over STAR talent everyday none of these two the Wild Child has.

There's no comments because it's not like we were in some countdown in the offseason, "Donny's at 499, when will he get his 500th win?" No one knew he was close to 500 until Gibby announced it on the mic on Monday. And as for a list of all 500 wins? I've not seen it, by no means am I questioning it, I'm just saying Schatz's non WoO career has not been well documented.

All of the WISSOTA stuff would have at the least had race recaps in their paper All The Dirt at the time. My son and I watched him win at Cedar Lake and saw him at a few other places like Jackson. It's all out there somewhere.

Hasn't really done much over the last few years. Sorry to disappoint you. He had a great career with Ricky....not so much afterwards.

Not much over the last few years...well, won the Knoxville Nationals in 2022, won the WOO season opener and finale in 2022, won the Kings Royal in 2023. I'm not even a Donny Schatz fan, but that's a fact Jack.

Sorry to disappoint you. Strawser chooses not to recognize any facts that disprove his narrative. It's his way of coping with insecurity.

Donnie Schatz gets his 500th win of his career and no comments....wow!

When I saw this thread title I thought Skylar Gee had gone on a hot streak.
