4wettracks, every single post you've commented on has been dogging on Tony Stewart.
You must also know all the expenses of running a business. If you can't afford the ticket, then don't go. Yes, $80 more than you're used to seeing, but when's the last time you saw a million dollar sprint car race? Tony, and his team are not dummies. Simply supply and demand.

I live about 35 minutes from Eldora, I will probably not go to this race but it has nothing to do with the ticket price. I think $80.00 is more than fair to ask for a ticket to this race, I was happy to pay the $85.00 for the Mopar Million 20 years ago but remember that was one ticket for a two day pass.
I believe that Eldora has around 17,000 permanent seats, so if you take that multiplied by $80.00 you get around 1.4 Million dollars if my math is right, so he is covering the purse if he sells out, if you are lucky you have excellant concession sales and it is worth the effort. I hope he does and it is a succesful race that makes memories and money.
As others have said, it's either worth it for you or it isn't. If you think $80 is too much then it probably is, alot of people will disagree with you.

I guess Tony can make money and do it again or he can break even and choose bot to risk a loss next year. I hope he makes lots and continues the event.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

You don't think Tony is going to sell 125,000 tickets at $80 each?

Is there seating and SRO capcity at Eldora?

That 17,000 number doesn't take into consideration how many pit passes will be sold either. Glad to see eldora management doing this. If the weather Co operates you won't be able to get near the place. Also, don't forget about tv revenues, that's been a closely guarded guess as to what is actually sold but I bet the number of folks that buy in is up there.

We have a situation in Houston where the local racers complained about the greed of the track owners. Now there is only one 1/4 mile dirt track within an hours drive (there used to be several) and they ain't coming back. Owning a race track is NOT a charitable enterprise. I guess only racing photography is. . . .

Don't forget about the grassy sections with people sitting in the turns. I don't know how many that holds. But it is a fair amount of people. I am very glad this is being tried. Hope they run it again next year.
Let's go Sprint Car Racing!
Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

It's sad and unfortunate about how the Houston racing scene came undone..but Houston is not alone in this growing problem.
A lot of what happens in this sport can simply be explained by analogies in other businesses:
Cooks complain because the servers are slow. Wait staff complains cooks are too slow.
But when you make the cook a server for the day, and the server a cook for the day; suddenly the complaining stops.
Just is the case in racing, there are a bunch of people that only see one side of things because they've never been involved directly in the business of track management.
They don't see the endless repair bills, theft, overhead costs, staffing headaches and expenses that roll on every day of the year when the track is not in operation.
But one thing is certain:
It takes everyone working together to keep this sport moving forward.
We are all each 1 cog in a gear, and without all of them working together (fans, racers, promotors, race teams, sponsors, track workers, safety crews; etc.) and when 1 'cog' feels it is all about them and their needs are more important than the sport's needs, then that's when things start to fall apart.

Yep....Pit passes are $375 for the week. There are 350 midgets entered. If each team has 4 on their pit crew (conservative estimate) that is $525,000 just in pit fees without one grandstand ticket being sold. The worst is the Tulsa Shootout. Over 1400 cars entered for $1000 to win features......that being said, the racers and fans keep coming back each year for a chance to win a $100 Golden Driller trophy, so why change?

Careful with the "simply supply and demand" comment...................................many on Hoseheads do not understand this. Simple for you, me, and a few others to understand. Very difficult, if not impossible, for many others.
While I'm thinking about it, I'm going to approach my boss today and ask him for a pay cut. After all, things are going well for me, and I seem to be doing fine. For me to continue to take a paycheck that allows me to invest any money must simply be greed, right?

people were giving larson a hard time for speaking up...like on the dirt nerds podcast (generally love them otherwise). $10,000 to win the chili bowl does seem like a joke. going there has become the cool thing to do for the local drivers...like having one of those pit wagons or doing stuff on youtube...and a rich person's playground for nascar and indy car stars.
don't get me wrong...i love it and rooting for some guy to run through the alphabet soup makes saturday one of the best sports days of the year. somebody is making a whole lot of money of it though and it's not a vast majority of the drivers who are there to support it. there almost should be no purse at all. the prestige of it these days is what carries it.

I believe the lease for the expo center is around $1,000,000, so Tulsa is making a good amount. Also the promoter gets $0 of the concessions from the event. I too love the chili bowl and it's a bigger event than most. 350+ teams don't care if it only paid a t-shirt.

I guess that explains why there are dozens of other promoters doing these big midget shows-right?

GREED! That is the only word to explain $80 tickits to the Eldora Million. Sponsors will pay most of the purse. Ticket sales alone for that week will total approx.10 million. Add on food and souveniers and Tony is making about 10 million profit that week alone. Outrageous!
|
Just in the last year I've paid over $100 for an endzone regular season upper deck NFL ticket, $80 for an endzone European soccer friendly at Lambeau Field, and $60 for a nosebleed regular season NBA seat, and $100 for a NASCAR race at Michigan. Put into perspective...$80 for a one of a kind sprint car race doesn't sound so bad does it?

I've followed this thread since it started and just tonight this thought came to me as I scrolled through the topics.
A guy is giving away a million dollars and we call him greedy. That in itself is odd. You Americans pride yourselves on capitalism. Isnt this enough capitalism to get yourselves happy.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Is anyone camping? Where is the best place to camp to at least have water and electricity? Cottonwood Lakes is already booked for the event, and my fear is that most the them are. Thanks in advance.
|
Try staying in Sanford, about a half an hour away. Getting around in that part of the country is easy, check around maybe with the Ohio state park system, plenty of camping available...
Ascot was the greatest of all time..
West Capital wasn't half bad either..
Life is good...

That I can agree with. The purse for the chili bowl is absurdly low given the amount of hype, entries and ticket costs. $80 for a 1 million to win sprint race seems very reasonable to me. I would have thought 3 digits for sure.

I think your math is wrong. Please explain were you got 10 million. You can not guess what advertizers will pay, you have to know.

Here we go again! Another sprint car whiner complaining about the costs! Never ends.
Dude. It's $80. Not your life savings.
Bet you are the same guy that spends more han that on beer.
In case you missed it, this is motorsports. Shit is expensive. You are not going to a little league football game.
