Steel trap memory!  Cap Henry took home $20k... Dietrich was 3rd.  Are they even racing at Mansfield any more these days??  Damn shame if not, with all the work they put into that place.

No, Mansfield is done for racing.  The guy who leased the place and put on all those high-paying shows, Cody Sommer (also known from the Gateway Dirt Nationals and involvement with Scott Bloomquist's DLM team), did not renew the lease for 2020.  Track property has since been sold to a railroad for non-racing purposes.

Does not matter who goes because there is only 3 cars that are the ones that will win and wont be beat and everybody else is just field fillers

I guess it depends on what your definition of 'well' is at the Nationals for a guy that generally only sees the track once before the Nationals (the Cappy Classic).  Dietrich made the A in the 2015 Nationals... started 17th and ran 15th.

He had decent speed last year during the Cappy in making the show (76 cars tried, only 24 succeeded).  On his qualifying night at Nationals last year he was 4th quick, but didn't make it out of heat and was one spot out of a transfer in the B.  If he transfers out of that B, he probably locks himself into the B on Sat at worst.  As it was, during the Friday program, he had speed again...  but blew a tire in his heat going flatout into T3... wrapped his car into a banner, junking it.  He did leave early... but would've been in the E Main Sat, so don't blame him.  At the risk of sounding like a Dietrich apologist, his limited body of work last year leads me to believe that with any luck, he can put it in the show on Sat this year... hope he comes out.

I finally looked it up, wasn't that hard...

That was the only time he ever made the A at Knoxille. Not sure how many times he showed up, I'm guessing at least 3

Oh wait, you already posted all that info, I failed to read earlier posts... doh! wink

Where did you find it?

Knoxville's website is incredible if you're into the rich history at the track:  News/Media drop down menu at upper right... Track History... Historic Results, Stories, and Points... has PDFs for each year dating back to 1977.  Control-F is your friend, if you're on a laptop. If you're even a moderately inflicted stat geek, it's a treasure trove.

Since they just announced it's limited to 68 drivers, definitely not going to see 70 plus....bs, but 360 Nationals can have up to 100 hundred cars interesting. The Outlaws and their games lol.

Where's my beer or scotch on the rocks? God-damn it! 40
plus years of dirt track racing in these old veins might
get me condemned by the EPA.

3? There's at least 4 heavy contenders- Schatz, Sweet, Larson, Gravel. Then another tier of Schuchart, Reutzal, Brown and a few others that could win if they get starting spot up front.

Agree.  After witnessing Johnson and Shaffer both make late-race passes of Schatz to pull off 2 "upsets" in the last 10 years, there are FAR more than 3 contenders every year at Knoxville in August.  Your list is pretty much spot on and I would add a few more drivers to that 2nd tier of drivers VERY capable of winning:  Pittman, Macedo, Sheldon and Shane Stewart.

The 68-car cap is definitely quite a disappointment to hear about. Kind of shaking my head on this one.

They should save us all a bunch of time and have a three car shootout.  I say this as someone who is juggling two PPV channels and my wife is starting to notice that two PPV channels have me hiding out with the cats in front of the big screen every night for the past two and a half months.

68?  91 last week, probably more than that this week even without pros, 100 for 360 Nats, but only 68 for the NOTionals?  Apparently, COVID eats brains too.  Anyone want to buy two tickets?

They are not doing split fields, can't expect to run 100 cars per night.

Apparently the format is going to be "interesting" from some of the posts I've read from drivers on Twitter. That means it won't be a normal WoO show format, so maybe keep your tickets....

Meanwhile those of us who get excited when more than 24 drivers sign in at the back gate at our local tracks say give me that 68 if you think that isn't enough.  wink
