We are all missing the special cermony they had for Greg. They did an outstanding job with everything they did to honor him. To me that was very special for the Hodnett family and close friends that went through a nightmare over the last week and a half. I give the Grove a STANDING OVATION for how they honored Greg!

Not missing at all.

Sad part about this kid, he’ll be in cup land before he’s 18? JMO
|
Had the chance to talk with his mom last year, very nice lady. IIRC, she said that Gio has his sights set for NASCAR, but that Dominic is happy to just run sprint cars forever.

Schatz came from 22nd to 10th so there was some passing. Some of that was the double file restarts but I thought the A main was pretty good.
It was nice to see the place packed on a prelim night in tribute to Hodnett.

True, there was some passing back in the field...

Not the track record, just the fastest lap of the year. Track record is 16.140 set on April 26, 2002. Tonight I think Shaffer got within a tenth in his heat, but I don't think that would have technically broken the record since I believe with most tracks you must do it in qualifying.
|
I stand corrected. Actually, I heard them say "fastest time of the season", but I typed this out late at nite & not thinking carefully

No doubt the kid has a ton of talent and isn’t afraid to get up on the wheel, but I wouldn’t put him on top of the pedestal just yet. There's just too much other up, coming and already tearing shit up talent out there to say young Gio is "The Next Big Thing". I know that’s just your opinion and this is mine. But I bet you a beer I'm closer to being right than you are ....
Plus, I've seen the evil empire of PoonTang wipeout some very promising professional sports careers, so he still has that slippery bullet to dodge .... lol
|
Well. I wasn't exactly "putting him on top of the pedestal", but at 16 yrs. old, he's got plenty of time to learn, compared to some other young guns in their mid to late 20s (?), like Shark team & Rahmer bros
He seems to be learning fast.... damn fast!

Dom was on winged nation this summer and said it was the other way arond that Gio just wants to be an Outlaw.
I remember when a guy from Heyward Cal. came to the Grove and won on his first visiti hes now racing in Heaven Jan Opperman.
Would have really been great if they had put the 27 wing on the 71 they have alot of connections with the 13 nothing againt Paul glad he made the show hope Mike does win the points
And good luck to Tom ,Paul and the 13 in the All Star Final.

"Not a bad night"???? Really Strawser???? Every race with the exception of the feature was follow the leader. The two dashes could have been one lappers and the result would have been the same. OMG, if that was another track we know in central Pa. ol' SOBStrawser would be typing so much he'd have hand cramps. The track was not good and the majority of the racing was boring. Even the guy sitting to the left of us was falling asleep, lol.
|
It rained horse cocks the night before into the morning. Did you see the parking lots? Everything was a mess. We were lucky to see a race at all last night. The track actually turned out far better than I thought it would. Williams Grove did a hell of a job getting that track into the condition that they did. When Port Royal is in the same situation, people praise them for sticking it out yet when it's Williams Grove they bitch. Bunch of damn homers and hypocrites in Central PA.

Say what you will his first time at one of the toughest tracks for a traveler to win at and he cracked a can of wup ass on the possie and WoO. Just saying. See facts are facts in record books down the road. Won't say anything about track conditions or how many cars. We'll all see yonngest WoO driver to win A main and at the Grove his first time. Makes me think some possie feeling got hurt. Donno, just saying.
|
I can't even begin to guess how many times over the years that I heard Greg Hodnett comment on less than stellar track conditions by saying "It's the same for everyone." If a 16 year old from Central PA went to Knoxville and beat the WoO, the Posse jock riders would be thumping their chests like tarzan and they wouldn't care what the track was like. Wet track, slick track whatever.....the kid did something incredible last night and made history. The track was the same for everyone and he unloaded fast and kept it hot all night long to put himself in postion then made one hell of a restart to pass one of the best racers in the country (who also happens to be very good at Williams Grove) for the win. With a field like that and the format they used, you have to be fast every single time you hit the track and he certainly was. I get tired of seeing people make excuses to try and take something away from someone else's accomplishment. He kicked some serious ass last night at a very difficult track that presented very difficult conditions against a field that was as stacked with talent as any in the country besides Knoxville. We all needed a reason to smile after spending a week grieving the loss of one of our all time greats and at least for me, Gio gave me one.

Totally agreed. I teared up a couple of times. A very emotional night but it was a very fitting send off to one of the greatest racers and human beings to ever walk the earth. Bruce's eulogy was amazing. Greg was definitely there last night in spirit and in the hearts of all of us as I'm sure he will be forever. The mark he left on the sport, especially here in his adopted home of Central PA will be here for as long as sprint car racing exists.

Danny D. came from the C to qualify through the B. That was really impressive for no passing at all during the heats through the B main.
I forgot about him until now.
Let's go Sprint Car Racing!
Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

"It rained horse cocks." Gotta say, Ive never heard that one before. Hahaha. Consider me educated. I always go with "Its raining like a double cunted cow pissing on a flat rock," for similiar circumstances.

A star is born...........in Gio.
But I'm really blown away at what Bernie has accomplished !
How can a guy who run's a very time-consuming racing parts business, take off on a weekend and blow away the best in the business, in unfriendly territory, with a rookie driver imported from the land of Fruits and Nuts ?
Not only that, but he's promoting the All Stars at Kokomo next weekend!
HOW DOES HE DO IT ?

POON TANG............ lol, do you think Gio would know what that one means ?
Strawser, if that was port royal, you would have had an egg. What a season the 69k team has pulled off ? There probably parked until next year. Let's hope DBsr. and Kreitzie want to do it all again next year.
Great tribute, enough said, let's hope the off season brings healing and the team returns.

Boy are you wrong! I hate, hate, and hate hard, black and dry tracks before the heats are overit = no fun racing.
Port has yet to show me they can keep that from happening on a regular basis. The last few times they raced minus labor day and warmups for the 50....the track has been much better.
Let's go Sprint Car Racing!
Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

It was actually Bubbles in "Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys." My favorite show of all time.
