The last two times I watched him race (Williams Grove WoO and Port Royal Dream race), I watched Tyler flip out on his crew at the Grove , and flip out at the safety crew and track officials at Port. He has issues other than drug abuse. FACT.
|
He has a temper, no doubt. I saw him lose a race at Port Royal years ago in the closing laps and I think it was an all-star race where they interviewed the top 3. T-dub jumped out of his car on the frontstretch after finishing 2nd or 3rd and proceeded to tear his crew a new asshole, arms flailing and all. I thought it was comical myself. I like the guy as a racer nonetheless. Glad to see the 35 back and hope he makes a speedy recovery - both driver and team!

BS tentman, you saw him a few times in PA driving cars he likely couldn't win in. I saw the guy in good equipment all over the country and never saw issues and I am sure there were some like there are with every driver that wants to win on a nightly basis.
The one and onIy. time a watched a complete Feature from Beer Hill I had Steve K. in the pool. Tyler led the whole race 'till turn one on the last lap and Steve got underneath him for the win, pissed a lot of people off and I never did collect which doesn't matter. In talking to Tyler after the race the fact Steve was behind was driving him crazy and he just waited to get passed. Then comes the white flag, he thinks he's going to win and poof here comes Steve and it's over. How many times did that happen, lol.....
|
I remember that race. It was a rubber down parade around the bottom. T-dub caught traffic toward the end and moved off the bottom groove enough for Steve to slip by, probably the only pass for position in one of the most boring races I've ever witnessed. The Grove is one of those tracks that has to be perfect to produce good racing, too slick/rubber down and everyone's on the bottom, too wet/big cushion and everyone's on the top. We can only hope that they change the configuration some day with shorter straights and wider, higher-banked turns. Long straights served their purpose yesteryear when you needed long straights with the lower hp cars to reach speed. Nowaday's they are obsolete and only string the cars out and force teams to spend a fortune on motors.

FWIW I don't think Tylers's past his prime. He's not that old. It's just that he and this team have been out of the game for a few years.

I spent 15 years in the pits from Coast to Coast and I am not sure if I saw a driver respond to little kids and old grandparents better than Tyler, they loved the kid young and old. Times have changed since then as has Tyler but he still has his heart in the right spot and sometimes his head in the wrong one, this is life at it's best and worst. He comes from good stock as his Dad Bob a sprint car racer as well as a VERY successful business man is one helluva good man as well. Few people could do what Tyler did on the track and he did it effortlessly, he had a gift no doubt. Others in many sports have had that as well and blew it up, I sure hope Tyler has time to recoup some of that magic. One thing I know for sure, he was a friend back in the day and he always will be one no matter what path he chooses. Let ye' who has not sinned cast the first stone.....

One driver I can name who was awesome with anyone and everyone is Bryan Clauson. Miss him dearly.
Tyler has always been personable every time I've seen him and yes, I've seen the good, bad, and ugly sides. I'm happy to see him back here in PA and wish him nothing but the best.

Indeed...that was back when we sat the frontstretch...truly a wasted evening that might have bee better spent mowing the grass.
Very similar to the night WoO ran a make up feature to start the night from a rain out the night before... Horrible partched surface... I believe McMahan stole the lead on the initial start and every damn lap was painful hug the bottom while we all waited to be hustled out of the gate and come back in to avoid seat conflicts for presold reserved seats for each "night".
The WoO doesn't always deliver the crappiest surfaces that come to mind... but you gotta credit them with giving it their best to recreate death valley.
The last time I was present for a Kinser win was the night Nelligan had to be relocated to our section after lecturing the natives at the other end of the backstretch grandstand...they were turning 20 seconds laps and letting off way early on entry of 3...The yawns were louder than the boos.
That may have been Nelligan's last night on posse soil for all I know... The next night was Lincoln hustling to get the show in before rain fell just after 8pm and a race across route 30 to Hagerstown to witness the final laps of late model wheel packing before they were told to load up, and ouaws only until 2am.
What a weekend... 3 races within 36 hours...topped off with Sammy Laytonizing Dollansky for the win on a scary fast Hagerstown surface.
Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH

Bryan was an absolute superstar/superhero to many but NEVER, ever, ever acted like it. Amazing that someone who was so prolific on the track was an even better person off it. A testament to not only Bryan, but his family and everyone close to him. A very rare person we lost way too early. I'm just glad we were all able to "experience" Bryan on and off the track while he was here. Miss him too.

I actually used to cheer for Tyler. But at this day and age if he came at me like those others. He would the dog piss whooped out of him. He needs to act and be a Man amongs Men.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.
