WRG/WoO has fired the first shot by stating that the sprint car teams will only be allowed to have their t-shirt/souvenir trailers at a few selected shows next year. Other than that, the teams will have to sell their wares either from their haulers or in the WoO trailer.
Here is our return volley.
Just go to: http://www.sprintcarz.com/ResourcesFUN/cannon/maincannon.html
Follow the simple instructions and mail the letter to the address of your choice. Personally, I'm mailing mine to Campbell's team for hand-delivery.
All this will cost you is a postage stamp and 5 minutes from your busy day.
Please, help out the teams that put on the shows we all enjoy so much.

Back to the original topic of this thread, got my stamps and we will be firing the cannon from Iowa! Sending 2 letters a day, I have many friends and family that care about the drivers on the circuit......I'm no lawyer, thank God (there's too many, sorry faster pussycat). I'm just a sprint car fanatic that wants those trailers at all the WoO shows I go to next year!

funny if the drivers put the logos on the cheapest rot gut shirts on the market and sell to DIRT.
Print theirs on the best quality and sell for the same price lol

Who owns the merchandise trailers? Who's name is the merchandise business under? Patty did you sign a contract with DIRT? Don't the operators of the merchandise trailers have to make there own arrangements by track to display them? Does the driver or the team have the contract with DIRT?
How do the rest of the professional sports industry handle it? Licensed merchandise? Annual lump sum payment? Percentage of sales?

Interesting point...
I'd love to see what their total cost of sales, direct and indirect expenses, officer salaries, income from operations (just a simple P&L Statement)...looks like in comparisson to their projections.
If they're operating under the premise of anticipated negative cash flow...how the hell does that work??? Duane, you may be on to something!

so... according to duane's theory a boycott would be helping dirt reach it's anticipated goal?
duane, you sly bastard, how far up your ass did they stick that probe? and for the betterment of the sport would you submit to it again?

Must be quite the profit margin on t-shirts if it will erase all the zero's in the negative column from these bunch of numb nuts mismanaging their own business, they have to rob from the guys that make it possible for them to even have a business to mismanage.
Callin' a spade a spade, don't care about the rule, I'm not a driver or owner. Could maybe be an owner, but they just keep makin this deal all the more attractive. Like my best friend Mr Mac says when I talked about buyin a 410 for my nephew, "I'll burn that shit in the backyard first" referring to his money before he put's it into a racecar. Pretty sad, but absolutely understandable.
Instead of having a raceteam, I decided to build a 9,000 square foot house. It'll cost a lot, but I won't have near the aggravation, and maybe when it sells I'll recoup more than pennies on the dollar. Owning a car and being involved would be incredible, but they have got to get this thing under control, or more guys like me will stay on the sidelines, or more will leave the game and go to the sidelines, and then what will Dirt do?

I know I sound the proverbial broken record, but for God's sake, didn't "we" (euphemistic we) just suffer through The Great Schism...
This ain't headed to a happy place where the prodigal son returns to the fold and saves the day! The "prodigal" son may have burned one too many bridges, and suffered a credibility loss that will adversely affect his ability to rally the troops, if that's what he even wants (he was enticed to re-join the "fold", the extent of which we may never know), on a national level. Seems more believable that many prodigal sons will soon be returning home to save their local promoters' day...
Since 1978, I've been to 305 or 306 WoO shows (several were not actually WoO sanctioned events), and NO, I didn't pay to get into all of them (although I will be a paying customer at the PAS show next week), bought a t-shirt here, hat there... I fear that if my son chooses to do the same, a national series will no longer exist.
I can afford to travel and visit the local series that will be the beneficiaries of such however, how many others can? A national series brought the best to us, or within a reasonable commute, and afforded many a "once in a lifetime" experience, once a year (twice if you were lucky)!
C'est la Vie as a wise man said to me recently...c'est la vie!
Hey, how'd that solidarity thing work out for Lech Walesa anyway?

But if the teams just don't show up, what exactly can the WoO do?
Especially if all of the teams elect to "go out of business" simultaneously, in light of the fact that they can no longer make enough t-shirt profits to stay on the road with the WoO.
They're not saying anything about the WoO; the just decided to stop racing and reevaluate their position about racing. Lots of ways to get around this apparently "one way" rule book.
Again, solidarity!

In light of the previous uprising, I wonder if a covenant not to compete was incorporated into the agreement between WRG/DRIT and their chosen few?
CNCs (covenants not to compete) are not binding (illegal) in CA, minus three instances not applicable to this situation...
Which leads me to...

Anyone posting and trying to compare the WoO with the NFL, NBA or any other series like that or Nascar has to be impaired we are completley out of that league and if the WoO continues their antics we will never ever get there.

I think what could slip by and what is being referred to here as far as NFL and NBA goes, is what is titled "Officially Licensed Product". Such as you would pay $60 for a shirt that has a tag that says that, and just outside the stadium there is a guy with a table set up, (he has to have a vendor permit or city business license - $5?) and he sells shirts that you could never tell the difference between the two. I think there may be two outs here. The first is pointed out a few posts ago, the drivers signed the contract, the "vendors" (and/or wives & girlfriends, mom's, etc.) are not legally bound by that and I believe they can get a permit from the promoter or track and sell. The other is also mentioned on here, make up some really really shoddy cheap shirts and give them to DIRT for their sales (therefore playing by the rules) but sell the good ones out of the hauler or at the motorhome. We can beat this! We just have to play the game, be smart and hopefully keep each and every team going!

cyndiv3 - that is more or less exactly what I was getting at. My referenence to the other sports was not how do they screw the participants but rather how do the participants get around getting screwed so to speak. DIRT can not be the first national sporting group to think of this.
No one to my knowledge owns the right to the design or style of a sprint car. With that idea in mind I do not think that anyone can keep someone else from selling something with the image of a sprint car on it. I also don't think they can stop anyone form selling something with a driver's name on it.
I am sure you all have business license and file taxes as an llc. Does your company have a contract with DIRT? There are many ways to get around what they are wanting to do. For some smaller teams it might make sense to let DIRT handle things for them. I would not go beyond a year to year contract and would only sign for a lump sum payment based on a high percentage (80-90) of potential annual sales.
You guys have been at this a long time. I am sure there are things you have thought of as well to get around it. Like the previous poster said, you just have to play the game.
And Patty, if you still think I am out of line you can smack me the next time you see me.
