Another question: How do they determine who qualifies Wed. & who qualifies Thursday?
|
Typically they've split odds/evens in point standings from WoO/Knoxville and maybe even All Stars to try and balance the field. It looks like they did a little bit different balancing this year with WoO drivers, going 1/4/6/8/10 on Wednesday and 2/3/5/7/9 on Thursday. Knoxville seems a bit different as most of the top 10 qualified Wednesday (21, 18, 2KS, 56N, 7W, 96, 49J, 84) so I'm not seeing any kind of pattern there.
Field seemed pretty balanced to me overall. Thursday had a heavier car count but I know there were guys who were originally set for Wednesday needing an extra day to prepare their equipment.

Bill W- quick question about the Friday night scenario...has any driver or team attempted / or are they even permitted to just turn up as a late entry and RACE FRIDAY without having run Wed or Thurs?
|
BRR... I don't remember anybody running on Friday that didn't try to run Wed/Thurs. Theorettically, all but 26 of the drivers are all on the same page come Friday... so I don't see why they would NOT let someone show up as a late entrant Friday to take a stab at making it in the back of the A or B. If you sign in, I would think you would draw a pill just like everybody else. Good question though!

Come on folks, no, you are not allowed to just show up Friday and race. That would be wildly unfair to the rest of the drivers who ran Wed/Thur. Besides, outside of the top 4 finishers in Friday's A, you are still accumulating points that sets the rest of the Saturday lineups.

Based on your last sentence, I don't think you fully understand how this works... which is fine, it's a fairly new concept. The top 26 in pts from Wed/Thurs are locked into the front of the A on Sat (1-16) and front of the B (1-10).
If you were NOT in the top 26 in pts after Wed/Thurs, at this point, the points mean nothing... zip, zilch, nada. What you did on Wed/Thurs will neither help or hurt you tonight... clean slate. How you do tonight (finishing position in features) determines where you will start tomm night (just like it did in the old format). If you run 1-4 in the A-Main tonight, you're in spots 17-20 of the A on Sat. If you run 5th-14th in the A tonight, you're in spots 11-20 of the B on Sat. If you run 15th in the A tonight, you're on the pole of the C on Sat ... and so on ... all the way down. There are no points for how you do tonight... and nothing is added to what you may have done (good or bad) on Wed/Thurs. As noted, it's a clean slate tonight.
The drivers that ran Wed/Thurs had a shot to be at the front of the A and the front of the B... drivers who would just show up on Friday had no shot at that. But they do have a shot at making the back of the A (and the $9k to start that goes with it) ... or the back of the B (which also pays out really well) ... same for everybody. Hopefully that makes more sense!?
