For the good of the track and the area, I agree.  I'd like to know if theres an entity behind the scenes that would pay 3.6 to the winner and get CB out if the picture if the winner did not want the track..

Stop and think about that idea for a minute.  If such an entity that would pay chuck $3.6 million existed, wouldn't they already own the track by now?

Shoot, I haven't looked forward to an event this much since July 4th 1984, when John Holland tried to jump 50 Chevy Chevettes at the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds.

Word on the street is 10 to 12 teams looking very seriously at signing up. Some have backing and some are still trying to find it and maybe working with a group of teams with several backers. Couple former Husets Champions, couple former owners, couple WoO regulars all wanting in but hanging back to see if it will really happen. I would say its about 50/50 chance of happening. Things need to come together by Aug. 1 if its gonna happen and thats less than 3 weeks out.   Let the bashing begin. Haters gonna hate. No I'm not a fan of Chuck but would like to see this happen and the track move forward.

No offense, but I get a kick out of the "haters gonna hate" comment.  Judging by the number of replies on this this thread, you're not the only one who wants to see this track reopen.  Personally, I could care less about this race, or who wins or who owns it next.  All I want is for the track to open again on a weekly basis.  Maybe you view it as "haters gonna hate" but the guy has lied so many times.  I view it as "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me".  So we're on fool me 6, 7 times?  It always amazes me how many people back this guy when he spews out some BS.

Word on the street? Ya, I believe every post that starts with that phrase.

I guess you are technicaly correct. It's for sale for $9 million or $12 million or $20 million or whatever figure he throws out this week. I consider those figures to be like Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP) on a new car. They're just numbers to get the conversation started. The fact that he was willing to auction the place off with a starting bid of $3.1 million suggests that the real sale price is around $3.6 million, or less. If someone comes up with $3.6 million cash today you can bet the race would be cancelled before it gets dark tonight.

That was a couple weeks before I moved to town. What happened? Was it as good as the Orville the Clown sitting on a stick of dynomite debacle at Black Hills Speedway in the 70's?

If he didn't make it there was probably a few hundred dollars of damage done.

Nope, he did not. I think he messed up an arm for good? Damaged several brand new Chevettes.

I know still pictures exist, if there's video I'd love to see it.

I was at the jump back in the day... I bunch of us BMXers had a ramp and where goofing around as something to watch while waiting for the jump. The jump went bad as soon as he hit the jump. The suspension bottomed out causing the parachute to release to soon and even then I don’t think he would have made it. There was what we tought was part of a finger in one of the Chevette’s busted up hatchbacks. The gas tank came of the bike and sailed into a huge Budweiser blow-up can. One of those Chevettes was turned in a Chevette El Camino and cruised around Sioux Falls for years afterwards!

"Hope springs eternal in the human heart"....

This reminds me of the "All Things Grateful Dead" thread on New Orleans Jazzfest forum.... 135 pages on a band that has never played Jazzfest & never will, cause they don't exist anymore

At least this is still an OUTSIDE possibility....
