CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINTS BATTLE FOR SPOTS 3RD THROUGH 9TH!

(Placentia, CA, October 12, 2011) With only two races remaining on the 2011 schedule, Wildomar's Tim Brown and Jarrett Kramer of Spring Valley have pretty much locked up the top two spots in the season long championship standings for the California Lightning Sprint Cars. However, when the series returns to the Ventura Raceway for the final time in 2011 this Saturday night, October 15th, battles for third through ninth are raging on.

At the top of the heap Brown leads Kramer, who made his 360 sprint car debut with a 12th finish in the USAC 360 race last Saturday in Tulare, by 213-points. Likewise Kramer, the defending series champion, is 123-points in front of Hemet teenager Alexander Bissett. After that, the fights in the standings begin.

Placentia's Dan Hillberg, who began racing over 30-years ago and who was second in the points standing for most of the first half of the season, only trails Bissett by 25-points. Both drivers have been plagued with mechanical ills the second half of the campaign and have driven of others, but they are expected to be back in their regular rides on Saturday.

The battle for fifth is the tightest one still remaining among the top ten. Anaheim's Dale Gamer is only five-points ahead of Hillberg's younger brother Darren who resides in Corona. The younger Hillberg started 2011 on a down note when his race car was stolen in January. However, after purchasing a new car, he posted his first ever win at Perris Auto Speedway on July 2nd and has been clawing his way up the standing ever since.

The war for seventh includes three drivers. Impressive rookie Stephen Limon of Corona currently occupies the spot, but veteran's Dan Lancaster of Imperial Beach and Paul Krueger of Buena Park are close behind as they approach the last two races. Lancaster is 25-points behind Limon and Krueger is 34 behind. Another veteran, Guy Maresch of Anaheim Hills, is 45-points behind Krueger.

In addition to the California Lightning Sprint Cars, the VRA Sprints, VRA Senior Sprints, Dwarf Cars, Mod Lites, Mod Lite Juniors, Junior Midgets and Mini Dwarfs will also be in action on Saturday at Ventura. Racing will begin at 5:30. For information on Saturday's program, please visit the Ventura Raceway web site at: http://www.venturaraceway.com/index.html
