TMS Dirt Track officials are opening up the paved pit spaces at Li'l TMS (adjacent to the Dirt Track) for this weekend's event.

Approximately 75 pit spaces are available there for drivers to use, at no added charge. Those added spaces are available on a first-come, first served basis when the track opens Thursday at noon.

Click www.darinshort.com/world.html for complete event details and visit www.TexasMotorSpeedway.com for tickets and the latest in event news.

Reminder that you can save $5 on event tickets by picking them up at any DFW O'Reilly Auto Parts locations. Races are this Friday, May 15th and Saturday, May 16th.

They have the track ready to go, the jet dryers waiting in the wings; and most everything there is either paved or concrete...so as long as it's not raining during race time, they will do what they can to get the races in.

In the case if it rains during the scheduled race time, they will do what they did the past few times; which is adjust the schedule accordingly.

So the question right now is 'if' and 'when' it rains. NOAA is showing relatively low rain chances until Saturday night - but right now they don't know 'when' on Saturday night...if it's overnight or earlier than that.

ps: the other thing this forecast has going for it is temperature. I was there for the WoO on March 29, 2001, and the day before it rained over 4"...but it barely got to 60 degrees on race day.

They had out the jet dryers and the track was so fast, it didn't even throw dirt. It was like a giant sponge; and D-Pit knocked 7/10 second off the track record...which still stands today at 12.276.

But back to the main point is the forecast temps this weekend are for 80 degrees; which assists a lot in the speed of drying compared to 55-60...if it rains.

They're closely monitoring the forecast, and if they need to adjust the schedule, they will. So racers and fans just need to keep tuned in for updates throughout the weekend.

TMS is parking all overflow teams (teams without reserved paved parking) on the paved spaces in the Li'l TMS pit area.

That way if any precip falls throughout the event, no one will get stuck.

TMS officials will direct teams to parking upon their arrival.
