With all the talk of which 410 region is the best, here is my idea to prove which is the strongest.  This event would take place on neutral tracks (Indiana) in the middle of the below regions (to reduce travel costs).  This would provide bragging rights for a year in the 410 community.  Due to the long proximity of NorCal, I did not include this region since it would be a challenge for the drivers/teams to make the long trip to Indiana.

* Date:  off weekend in September or October,  2 day show on Fri. & Sat.

* Tracks:  Tri-State and Lawrenceburg, both Indiana tracks are Neutral to the below regions, tracks are 1/4 mile and 3/8 mile which provides diversity, each track has the facilities to host a big time event

* Purse:  $10k to win, $1k to start

* Bonus $:  paid out to the top 3 drivers for the top scoring region in each event

* Format:  Invitational only, must be in top 20 track or series points of regions listed below (avoid cherry pickers);

* PA region:  Grove, Lincoln, Port, Lernerville, PA Speedweeks

* Ohio region: All Stars, FAST, Ohio Valley

* IL/MO region:  MOWA

* Wis. region:  IRA

* Plains region:  NSL, Knoxville, NOSA

I bet this event would draw 50 cars;  16 Ohio, 12 PA, 12 Plains, 5 MOWA, 5 IRA.  I understand there are already similar events active today with drivers from these regions competing (Ohio Speedwks, Kville, World Finals....), however this event would openly classify each & every driver and place them on a team (region) and fans can root for their team.  Can you image all the PA Posse fans, a large group of fans coming over from Knoxville, the Fremont/Attica fans..... it would be like a college football game.

You call this an idea to prove which 410 region is the strongest then leave out one of the best regions. Bet the fans in Cali would say that event proves very little.

Greg Weld tried that at I-70 in 1982 or 1983. He paid show-up money to selected track champs from all over the US. I think it rained and the idea was a money loser.

You really can't compare the regions even though we all love our particular local drivers. Pa tracks are just as unique to Pa as Cali tracks are unique to Cali. Car setups because of how different the tracks are are just worlds apart and take an entirely different approach. As much as many of us hate to acknowledge it, but that's what makes the Outlaws so good. Their ability to adapt. Not saying that none of the locals in ABC or XYZ locations couldn't adapt, but it's not a good sample to be honest. Just be happy that many of us have strong weekly divisions.

Awesome reply. That is the truest statement I have read in a long time.

There is a few problems with your idea.

1-There are no open weekends in Sept. or Oct. in Pa.

2- I don't know what special races pay elsewhere but you are asking the Pa, guys to travel that far for a purse that would be nothing special to them.

3- This is the most important one, I don't think the racers spend as much time fretting about who is best as some fans do therefore taking a lot of insentive to attend away.

Obviously this is a pipe dream...So...You would have to make it a 3 day show and throw in a big half mile track ...The 'Burg and Tri State don't represent anything along the lines of what a track in Central Pa looks like...both AWESOME Tracks..but...They just are nothing like the Central PA tracks...

Indiana isn't exactly halfway across the country!!...Knoxville on the other hand....

Just a thought if anyone wants to run with it.

Why don’t you take the number of Full Time Outlaws (say 10) at a race or races and find that average finish (number).  Then take the number of Full Time Outlaws (10) and get the same number of the drivers/teams at the track or region or series (10) for each race or multiple races (whatever the person making out the stats wants to do).  When all this numbers at calculated it will give you one number for the average finish for the Outlaws (say 9th) and one number for the average finish for the drivers/teams at the track or region or series (say 8th).  We could say that the locals were better on average by one spot.

Know people will be able to compare numbers to numbers.   Also, I would love to see the names of the drivers and teams that are factored in with the Outlaws and the “locals” (drivers/teams at the track or region or series).  This could let people see that drivers/teams are factored in under the right group.  Yes, there could be multiple group compared at one race or multiple races with this formula.

This is only a thought but wanted to let it out of my head for the world to take it where they please.

As far as centrally located, and diverse track size.....eastern Nebraska is about as close as you could get......how about a 2 nighter at I-80 Speedway (banked high speed 4/10ths) and Eagle Raceway (high banked 1/3 mile bullring)...only 13 miles apart, plenty of hotels, food, parts availablity, etc within' minutes......I'm sure there could be some type of "double down" bonusworked out from some of our generous sprint car fan benefactors.........now THAT.... would be something............maybe doable in 2016?.........uh, oh....back to work.....SC

This would have been a great idea for the Friday night Knoxville show before they finally came up with a great idea as it is now.

This could be something they do at Southern Iowa, make it a 2 day show, as that's the only time of year you'll get guys to travel all that way.

I might be wrong on this, but I'd be very surprised if there are any shows in PA that pay $10k to win and $1,000 to start at any point in time during the season.  That's an exceptional purse idea.

The change that I would make is to add this onto the Thursday portion of the World Finals as opposed to having it in Indiana.  Make it an invitation only event and include all regions (PA, OH, Midwest, CA).  Run some sort of a different format (2 heat races, passing points, dash, etc.)  Maybe the feature winner gets a guaranteed starting spot in both sprint car features for the weekend.

None of this will ever happen, but it's cool to talk about.

They might not quite make the $1,000 to to start but Port Royal alone has four shows this year paying $ 10,000 or more to win (they just paid $15,000 and $100 to lead each of 40 laps last week) and I am pretty sure Williams Grove has at least that many.

I understand that there are several races that pay $10,000 or more to win in Central PA.  But how many races pay $1,000 to start in Central PA?  If you are towing a long distance against the type of competition that would be at this hypothetical race, $10,000 to win and $400 to start isn't going to get you nearly the car count that $10,000 to win and $1,000 to start is.

What did the Weikert Memorial race pay to start?  I couldn't find the payouts listed anywhere.

Why would you exclude the premier drivers in sprint-car racing in front of 20,000 plus fans? People come from all over the country and the world to the Nationals so they can see the best drivers in action. Its already an atrocity that the Outlaws only make it to Knoxville one time a year now.
