Huh? Ostrich builds LBJ's engines.
First we can tell roller vs flat tappetts by sound. Now because it turns 8500 it has a roller cam. Why can't a FT cam turn 8500 as well? Before our local class went to roller cams we turned them 8300 all day long. A 305 regardless of what cam your using 8500 is pretty impressive.

Aren't Sprint Cup engines flat tappet? Or if they aren't now they changed fairly recently. They were turning them almost 10,000 at one point on flat tappets. Just a little information, that is all.

I agree with sprintfan1. Larry has a lot of laps at Knoxville, as does Matt Stevenson (new track record). There needs to be more consistant tech of the top 4 every night. Once everyone knows that the "cheaters" are being caught, there will be fewer of them. We all know that there will always be stretching of the rules.Just do as Jackson, Minnesota does...tech the top 4 EVERY NIGHT!.
Keep an eye on Jake Strayer... He is a great talent! His car owners are the right fit for this young driver. Kind of ironic that he is driving the #1K... just like another young talent a few years ago.

HRH10... Very easy, check the cubic inch on every car, every night before the races start. A different cyl every night. Then check the top 4 every night on an uinkown "spec", without the racers knowing before they roll into tech.(stacks, rods, casting #s, etc.)
Let the tech crew earn their pay. (I assume they are paid)
We just need an even playing field in the 305's! JMO

Those things you listed are minimal........the important things are roller cam, crank (that is what inspection hole is for tech officials) cubic inch on cylinders the tech wants to check not the ones the crew points too. Your right if they get paid make them earn there money as well as the driver EARNING there win. If there was a protest do you think those "locals" would change things????

This thread reminds me that although a racer may be impressive in the seat of the race car that doesn't necessarily make them even remotely knowledgeable about motors and the like. How can anyone connected with motorsports not know that a flat tappet motor is capable of 8,500+rpm?? It's not hard to do if you build the damn thing right and use good parts.
Cheers!

Seems a 24k 305 is cheating among all else. If I could do it though, ostrich would be on speed dial. Things are out of control regardless. If you want a Win at knoxville. You better have an occupation where you bring in 75k or more.

Do you have any idea how long it would take to check20-25 305 motors for cubic inch. It would take a long time. Knoxville also has 2 other classes to check.

You could not afford a NASCAR flat tappet cam. It is not just the camshaft, but every thing that goes with it. We are talking about NASA type tech. The 1 race camshaft, lifters, rocker arms, push rods, springs and valves are probably in $10,000 or more range. No one knows why NASCAR demands flat tappets, but it goes back to 1950 s.

linbob, it does not take that long. We did it at Jackson every night for many years with 30 - 40 cars. Just tell them which # cyl. they will check and the cars can be ready when the tech guys go around. Pump it, document it, and move on...not that hard! Everyone is then OK to race. I'm talking about the 305's only!

Uhhh... Kevin... A month or so ago, I spoke to your dad and he indicated that you guys were planning to come to Jacksonville more times than not when we race 305's. You might want to give me a call to make sure we have similar expectations and understandings before you make the tow down here because while we plan to tech, I can already tell that we probably aren't going to be meeting your expectations in how we run our race program.
I have a enough drama dealing with our street stocks. Never have had a problem with our 410 guys either at Jacksonville or through all my nights working with MOWA. I don't expect a problem from the area guys that we created the 305 class for either as they are a group of guys we know very well and can have a good time racing with. Also haven't noticed a problem brewing from those cars that race at Burlington that plan to come down here on occasion. But if I'm going to have to get on the internet to learn how to run our race program from someone two hours away... that's not something that is going to have a long shelf life on your end.
Everyone involved in our 305 class is planning to have fun. We put 410's in down here when it's serious. That doesn't mean that we don't plan to have competitive racing in our 305's, but we plan to keep it in proper perspective.

Ken.......if you would look at my original post maybe you would get the POINT!!!! Like i said im not creating rules im about FOLLOWING THEM!!!!! Rules are rules and making sure drivers follow them is my concern. They way i hear your doing it is about anything goes, but if you win and you come back you have to go back so many rows. Dont know if there is truth to that but if there is then so be it. Some people on here dont even race but have there 2 cents input by saying buy better parts. Well the best parts may not always beat someone if they dont imply the rule/tech. Knoxville rules should be pump 316 or less. The End. Right??????

Way more concerned about the style of delivery rather than the point being made.

Ken......i can tell you that if you have rules and dont do the teching then no our two cars will sit at shop. Im not telling you how to run the Track or rules but if the tech officials get paid and dont tech more than stacks and pump then thats your waste of $$.
