When your in any position of power you will have haters. I don't always hear good things about Stickel but from what I know through working with him and being around him is all good. Bottom line is he works long hard days. As a marketing director and now GM he isn't sitting in an air conditioned office all day like I feel many of you think. He does grunt work too. To hanging billboards and all the tents and fencing you see setup during nationals, chalk lines behind grand stands to organize all the t shirt trailers are setup by him and his part time staff. Every sign you see at Knoxville is setup by him and his staff. Lots of time and effort go into that.

Accurate statement. I have seen first hand during the season Brian out in his bucket truck with some helpers (usually local HS kids) hanging banners and chalking lines for venders, selling prgrams on race nights, helping ferry VIPs around the place and many other things that fans don't see. He has an outstanding staff and most of them are parttime, and work a lot of hours AFTER their "real" full time jobs or take their vacation week during Nationals.

I understand that not everyone is going to be happy with the decision...but as discussed numerous times on the message boards answering to the Fairboard and trying to please that many people is impossible. I know people have their opinions on Stickel (I've personally had a run-in with him), but I do think he has done a good job for the Raceway since he's been there. Working in jobs like this can be very thankless, but keep in mind would you like 20 some people as your boss? Give Stickel a chance before you go rushing to judgement...after all he actually wants to be there to make the racing experience better for you.

Other than what I feel have been lackluster attempts at promotion and marketing....there are things about Brian that made me disagree him and think he's not good for the racetrack.
I would not post these things over the internet but since they have been asked for I feel as I "need" to respond. My intention is not to trash someones name over the internet or anything of that matter, but its important as he is supposedly now the leader of Knoxville Raceway.
1. In the past years, Brian tried the whole T and A game. tits and ass. At one time and I believe there still is a group of girls that have been hired to "promote" the track. To my knowledge, these attempts have been a flat out waste of money and have looked horrible in my eyes as a place that's supposed to look good to the community. Leave it to the NOS girls.
2. The lack of sponsorship all across the board. Nationals vendors don't come back. Nightly sponsorships are losing value. I know multiple former Knoxville Raceway clients that have discontinued business because of Brian and ALSO the fairboard.
3. Brian headed a promotion event at the Big Country Bash.An outdoor country concert in Des Moines. He may do this every year, but I remember two or three years ago.. He was there in Knoxville Raceway attire and was completely biligerant drunk on the job. He was sitting in the Knoxville Raceway promotion trailer sloppy drunk. Not a place where I want to take my kids.
These are the things I believe and attest to with my own knowledge. I will not attest to any of the things I've "heard" about him, but they are pretty bad. I will not post them since they are only things that have been heard through the grapevine, although I seem to agree that they are completely believable. I do believe the guy works hard and you cannot take that away from him. Since I think the fairboard is doing a horrible job, it does not surprise me they would pick a guy like Brian. He is a perfect fit. He will be the show pony to the fairboard and it will only reflect in what happens to Knoxville in the future. Hope for the best and that Brian surprises me and changes my views about him.

Some information in the previous post I can agree with but most I cannot. When you refer back to the Big Country Bash and his behavior, this doesn't suprise me. Brian had a problem which is no longer the case. He learned from mistakes and I would question anyone who says anything like this has happened in the last few years. While the "Knoxville Knockouts" certainly might not have been as successful as one may think, when the track does promotional events around the country at places such as car shows, it never hurts to have a female to help draw people in.
In terms of him hurting vendors and sponsors, I just can't agree with that. If you look at the amount of vendor/sponsor dollars coming into the track before Brian and compare to what the track takes in now, he has certainly moved things forward in that space. Case and point is the vendor area during Nationals. It wasn't long ago all the food vendors and many tshirt vendors currently paying the track for their vendor spots were located acorss the street at Hy-Vee. If you look at the vendors currently on grounds, with the exception of a few, they have remained consistent over the last 5 years.
If you're looking for the nice guy that's friends with everyone to be the person running the track then I can certainly say Brian isn't the best pick. If you are looking for a guy that has a true passion for what he does and moving the track forward, tells it how it is and isn't as afraid as people may think to stand up to the fairboard (I've personally witnessed it) then I think it's a good hire.
With that being said, I think there is consistency in a lot of these posts that ultimately the fairboard decides just about everything. Without a change in that structure as it sits today, I think it's difficult for anyone to move things forward as much as we all would like to see.

Committee........a group of individuals capable of doing nothing gathering together to decide nothing can be done.................... ..................................... .........................
A camel lookes like a horse that was planned by a committee.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

agree to disagree kvillesprintfan. The number of vendors in the showbarn was completely filled in the past and it has dwindled down in the last fews year. And obviously there will be more tshirt and food vendors because they actually make money for paying for their spot... rather than just straight promotion spots. And I have said before... if Candi's Flowers Night is good enough for Knoxville Raceway then yes.. Brian Stickel is doing a great job of marketing and promoting. agree to disagree. I need to get over the fact that Toby Kruse is not coming back and have a little more faith in Brian. I want to believe in him... but when I hear him talk about how "well" Knoxville Raceway is doing.... its sounds as if there doesn't need to be improvements.

knoxvegas- You sound like "that guy" we all have at our day jobs that complains about everything w/o having a clue on how things actually work. I understand if you're a Kruse fan, I really do, he was a nice guy, but give BS a fair chance/shot.
Regarding Candi's Flowers night....so apparently KR is supposed to turn down businesses (local businesses at that) wanting to sponsor weekly shows because the business doesn't fit your "sexy" criteria?? Get a clue. You'd be complaining on the other side if they were turning Candi's Flowers down and it was an open night. I realize this might not be the most "sexy" business (actually Candi is an attractive lady), but you've got to take what you can get.

sorry for caring about the sport and our racetrack. thanks for questioning my knowledge about how things work because apparently you've been blindfolded from the problems and issues about sprint car racing.
The reason Candi's sponsors a night because no one wants to work with Brian and he's had to lower the amount in the contract so they don't have an open night. Lucas Oil, one of Knoxville Raceways "biggest" clients.... doesn't give KR a cent. Just trade for a mediocre tape delayed telecasts of the Nationals. i KNOW what im talking about. Just looking at the big picture of our sport and speaking for all the low budget racers who can't compete because theres no money in KR and our sport.
