Steve Woodhouse Journal-Express The Zope Gazette Tue Nov 06, 2012, 10:58 AM CST
Knoxville — Toby Kruse, former Knoxville Raceway General Manager, recently resigned from the post. At Monday night's Marion County Fair Board meeting, a secret ballot was taken and the board chose not to fill the position.
Instead, the track will be run by committee. Gary Schumacher will handle the financial aspect of the track, as well as human resources; John McCoy will handle racing issues and Brian Stickel will market, promote and handle other matters regarding the track.
The three of them submitted a proposal to the board for track management moving forward. Stickel said after the meeting that the duties that would befall a general manager were already being taken care of by these three.
Prior to a vote taking place, Stickel told the board of his experience with the track and his other experience, including the X Games and Olympics. While other dirt tracks around the country are not doing as well as they may have in the past, Knoxville Raceway is doing well. Stickel believes it is necessary to plan for the future, to set goals and designate where money will be spent as the track moves forward.
"We have a very bright future here," Stickel said.
Stickel believes that continued success will rely on getting sponsors for upcoming events signed soon. He does not believe this can wait until February.
"I agree," McCoy told the board. He also expressed his support for the proposal and for Stickel.
Schumacher said there is currently no one available to oversee staff at the moment. He sees a need for a handbook, policies and guidelines and expressed his willingness to maintain employee records.
Stickel said action needed to be taken to give staff the authority to move forward within parameters set by the board regarding the budget, business plan and more. A motion was made and seconded to approve the proposal. Per the board's request, each member wrote yes or no onto a piece of paper and were tallied by the board president and secretary. Other votes taken Monday night were done by a show of hands.
Fair Board President Bob Riggen said the motion carried by a single vote.
Look for more on the fair board in the Nov. 9 Journal-Express.

from the KNIA radio website
The Knoxville Raceway will move forward with a partnership approach to management as they move into 2013. Marketing Director Brian Stickel tells KNIA/KRLS News that he’ll assume the title of General Manager, adding he’ll mainly continue to focus his efforts on promotion, marketing, and ticket sales. John McCoy will continue as Race Director and handle issues related to the racing. Gary Schumacher will be in charge of human resources and accounting. Stickel says the Marion County Fair will serve in a supervisory role over the three men. The Raceway had been without a General Manager since Toby Kruse resigned in September. Stickel says he’s excited for this new opportunity and that they’re looking forward to a great 2013 season.

Brian Stickel is a complete idiot. He is not the general manager. The general manager position was dissolved.
It takes alot of professionalism to abuse the Knoxville Raceway twitter account and tell clients that YOU are the new general manager.
Knoxville Raceway is in trouble. YIKES.

Knoxvegas... Brian doesn't post anything on the twitter account. I take care of that with news, results, countdown to Nationals, etc. I posted the annoucement after the press release was sent out. Brian typically takes care of the press releases, as he should.
I really don't understand the negative thoughts here. Brian has done a lot of good things over the years in my opinion. If anyone would actually sit down and have a face to face conversation with Brian instead of firing shots on a message board, you might understand that he has a passion for Knoxville Raceway and wants it to succeed just as much as any other race fan.

When your in any position of power you will have haters. I don't always hear good things about Stickel but from what I know through working with him and being around him is all good. Bottom line is he works long hard days. As a marketing director and now GM he isn't sitting in an air conditioned office all day like I feel many of you think. He does grunt work too. To hanging billboards and all the tents and fencing you see setup during nationals, chalk lines behind grand stands to organize all the t shirt trailers are setup by him and his part time staff. Every sign you see at Knoxville is setup by him and his staff. Lots of time and effort go into that.

How can you go from Toby Kruse to Brian Stickit and call that progress. When Toby came in there people were looking for big change, now you have the same ole good old retard calling the shots. There is NOTHING going to change. How long has Brain been there 5-6 years? Everything is declining. Look for ticket prices to go up and car count to go down!

I'll ask my question again as there seems to be some negativity towards Brian. Why is it that you feel he is not a fit person for the job?

I still think Toby was the best thing to ever happen to that place. I'm not saying Brian is the best promoter they can get but no matter who comes in to run the joint they still have to answer to the fairboard. Thats worse than congress
