John Lemon

OCRS Public Relations

Tulsa Oklahoma (October 5, 2012)- Officials from Brill Motor Speedway and the Oil Capital Racing Series have cancelled the scheduled 2012 season finale for the OCRS sprint cars due to the forecasted cold temperatures expected to sweep through the area on Saturday October 6th. No make up date is available at this time but one is being considered. Should a make up date be assigned, it will be posted at www.ocrsracing.com immediately.

This could be a good thing for fans. Another weekend wouldn't have the conflicting Lawton speedway winter nats drawing champ sprints away. If you could have this event in a week or two I think it would be a better turn out for drivers and fans alike. Looking forward to seeing if and when this will take place.

P.S. It's also my anniversary Saturday so I am all in favor of moving this to another weekend! lol Biased opinion.

Kevin I think Jeff thought Lawton just got pushed back a week. I did too until I looked at it a second time.

Still agree with Jeff though and hope they make it up. However - I don't think if they ran it next weekend either show would have a tremendous impact on the other. The difference of a couple/few cars perhaps. Although it's definitely more true when OCRS is closer to Tulsa. With it being in Meeker - yeah it puts it within distance of 80% of the sprints that run at Lawton. So it's probably in BMS/OCRS interest to not run against it (although I doubt many tulsa cars will head to lawton, but it would be great if they did). What is in two weeks? Devils Bowl? dont think that would really matter at all. Probably be a better show to run against than Short Track Nationals imo.

As far as BMS cancelling the show. I applaud it. I used to be a vocal critic of Brill, but I like what he's done with the E Sprint class and I think he pays mind to reality. Sure he COULD race this weekend - but why run it this weekend and have bare grandstands when you could run in a couple/few weeks and maybe catch a break with the weather. Not a good sign that this cold snap happened this early, but hell it's Oklahoma stranger things have happened. Doesn't really matter if we all agree with his call - his wallet made it out of necessity. Highs in the low 50's with a stiff north wind aren't great - you really could, with reason, hope to get a day of highs in the low/mid 70's in a couple weeks. Just double dose of bad luck that this cold front came this early AND on a weekend.

As for them cancelling during the record heat and record drought. I don't blame them at all for that either lol. Sure there are some that still wanna get out and race - like Kevin wink - but from a business standpoint is it enough to make it financially viable. And I've heard they have limited access to water.....if that's true the impact of that cannot be overstated.
