Asking a question to people who run 305's at Knoxville.
How many are going to run there 305 motors next season?
I have two motors that ran almost all of last year at Knoxville. From what I'm hearing these motors are now old news.
Are there two motors out there to replace my two, which will know be in the garage on saturday nights?

I find it to be very entrusting that when a person that actually has cars racing in the 305 class at Knoxville asks what I think is a very important question and yet after 192 looks not one comment.
That tells me that not many car owners or drive are quite sure just what is going to happen and just how it affects them.
I have 2 grandsons racing 305s at Knoxville and can tell you that they are not sure what is going to happen. One drives for a team and who knows what the owner is thinking. My other grandson races on his own dime he is saying that what he has is what he is going run. If the new rules put him at a disadvantageand he is not competitive he will look else were to race.
I know one kid not racing at Knoxville is not a big deal to them but it is to me.
Most of you know who I am by my log in name. I am proud to say that this season we had 9 kids that have raced at English Creek Speedway participate in the 305 class. Plus we had 4 young men in the 360s from ECS.
Maybe I am jumping the gun do to the fact Knoxville has not formally announced any rule changes in the 305 class.

I have run 305 but am not right now. I do not think your motors are outdated. The 4 inch bore x 3 inch stroke motors have not proven themself yet. I know of a motor like that a couple years ago and it blew up about 3 nights out. I am no motor expert, but I think the 3 inch stroke motors will have less torque. The 4 inch blocks will unshroud the valves which is good. I would get your. 2 motors ready for next year. The 4 inch chevy blocks oem have been picked thru over the last 30 years and I do not know if they will be any better. Next step is the DART blocks. Like I said I am not an expert.

Why would anyone racing 305 sprints want to make any changes . Racesaver rules work and keep the Racing fun and affordable . 305 Blocks ,not 350 blocks ,not Dart Blocks .are you kidding .Don't you take away from the premiss of LOW cost Sprint Car racing .If you want more engine ,go get a 360 .

It's my opinion 305 racing is fun and affordable in Iowa already.
From all I hear the motors cost about the same as racesaver rules.
I just don't want my investment(in a 305 motor) to become $0. If I can't recoup some money from my 305 motor when I decide to sell, it's going to be hard to keep racing.
Hope it all works out, there's no reason it shouldn't.

We are going to keep what we have and run it. If (notice I said "if" the rumors are true, there were 2 of the 350/3" stroke motors running there this past season, and 1 of them never got better than 5th place, so "if" the rumor is true about them being there, the old motors will be just fine.
The problem I see with the 350 block deal is you won't be legal at ANY other track in the country. Drysumps were hard to get past most series, 350 blocks are out of the question as far as racing anywhere besides Knoxville or this new series people are talking about. The frequency of tech will also have to be changed if they allow 350 blocks.

Thank you for your thoughts on the 305 situation. You sound alot more positive about our 305 motors then some people are.

I guess I don't see how they will be much different than the old rules. I agree you will get some durability from the 350 block over the 305, and the 350 blocks are a lot easier to find in my area. But as far as running better, I don't think it will be any different than what is already running. If I understand correctly, the short stroke will lose a little torque, 305's are already underpowered so how is losing torque going to make you faster? I just look at it as just because there is a rule change, doesn't mean that those rules are better, there is just another option. Put a normal 305 and a 350/3" stroke side by side on a dyno from the same builder and I will make my official judgement then!! But then again, dyno numbers don't win races....LOL

I thought that there was going to be a meeting for drivers and owners the day of the Knoxville Banquet to decide the motor questions/issues.
Also -- why isn't Ball's name listed for the 305 Owners?

My name was not listed as an owner or driver because I was unable to run 75% of the races this year.

Sorry Larry Ball Jr.,,,,,I didn't realize you didn't make all the races. That is to bad ...I just wondered why you weren't in the owners points. Good luck next year. Hope Jamie is feeling better.

Questions from downunder
looking to come up and run some 305 shows and want to build the engine/s here but there seem to be a few changes going on
Reading the rule I need some help with claifying some areas
crank when it say 48lbs aftermarket is acceptable most aftermarket cranks are knife edge or shaped to help reduce windage what is the answer here? are they legal as it say no shaping or knifedging?
rods any steel rods allowed and what journal size any eg (honda)
are you allowed to machine the deck of the head to reach the minium 49cc as for reason of repair could be you dropped head and marked deck?
can you cut the seats how ever you like as long as the seat angles diminish towards the guide and do not under cut?
can you port your heads at knoxville?
any Iron head Dart RHS World products allowed
Stainless steel valves ok??
Is it 100% confirimed that the 350 block is now legal at Knoxville and MOWA series?? if so what part numbers?
are fords able to run at Knoxville??
if wet sump is it legal to run vacum pump at Knoxville and MOWA as you can run dry sump?
how many people run carburetors are they compeditive
sorry for all the question some may seem dumb, The reason for some of the Question is I have a bunch of parts here and need to know if i can use them to make this cheaper for me.
Answers to these question will be very much apprecited
Thanks

305 chevy lol. When I was a kid everyone was talking about 305 chevies.... how they wouldn't even smell a 5.0 Mustang. I'm still waiting for a new truly limited, affordable, cheap 265 class.
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

The 4 x 3 motor will be a definite advantage just as the big bore 360's are.
