THE WORD IS MIDWEST 305 CLUB JOINED WITH KNOXVILLE AND VOTED IN THE USE OF 350 BLOCKS WITH 3 INCH CRANKS. AS IN THE 302 C.I. ENGINE. SO THIS WILL FIX THE SHORTAGE OF BLOCK PROBLEMS.GREAT FOWARD THINKING GUYS AND IT WILL SAVE THE RACER MONEY.NOW IF THE BURLINGTON GUYS GET ON THE SAME PAGE THE 305 DEAL WILL GET REAL STRONG

Sorry to say some of us down here tried to organise a meeting to talk on the blocks and it was met with closed minds so burlington rules will stay the same and we will be split again next season.

Well Nick do not give up just yet..within a month we will be launching the New 305 Super Series and we sure want all you Burlington guys to be part of it..It will hopefully get rid of the Small differences and make the 305 division much stronger.More news soon.

Don't out price yourself. If your gonna spend 18,000 for a 305 might as well be in a 360

The 350 pistons with the 305 heads are going to make over 11 to 1 compression,you gonna raise the comp. limit too and make the current 305 even more of an underdog? Some people never learn.

Wouldnt it make more senseto allow any 305 block instead of the 350 one? What about the dart 305 and 360 block then?

This is not true, if you use the same heads, flattop piston, everything the same but the bore and stroke, it will lose about .5 compression. If you dont believe me do the math, if you dont know how to do the math there are plenty of calculators on the internet that will do it for you.

SORRY DID I MISS CALCULATE..OR ARE YOU USING A DIFFRENT WAY OF MEASURING..I FIGURE IT TO BE LOWER BY HALF A POINT WITH A FLAT TOP PISTON..O WELL BACK TO SCHOOL

Stay with the race saver more and save everyone some $$$$ and headaches. I predict this is gonna be a big mess and more money thrown out the door but good luck. Would be interested in that final motor cost, horsepower, torque, etc. I would just keep it simple and affordable and get more cars at each show.

I am hoping to be in position to actually be able to get a car put together in the next year or two and was hoping the 305s would be a good start (always loved sprint cars and that is where I want to end up). With all this talk of high $$$ motors in the 305s already and everything else it makes me lean more toward an IMCA mod. I personally know a guy from here (southwest minnesota) that has only about $6,000 tied up in his A-mod motor (granted he does a lot of the work on it himself) and is extremely competative and has won a half a dozen or so races this year (also missed making the big show in Boone by 3 spots and won two heats). Seems like with the modifieds it is a lot more on set-up and driver than motor. The point of my rambling is if something is not done to make sure the cost is kept down in the 305s, it will scare new people (like myself) to a different car/series.

How many $18000 305's are out there? 2? Maybe 3? This has been talked about almost as much as the Triple X debate....
How much of that money is parts cost and how much was labor cost? If you go to Wesmar/Ostrich/Kistler etc, you will pay a lot of money for a motor. Granted, it will be a nice motor, but those numbers are grossly inflated. $10K is much more along the lines of the motors I know about. But what do I know?
I will point out again, even if you spent $15K on a 305, it should be capable of winning races. How much will a COMPETITIVE 360 cost you? Anyone that says less than $20Khasn't raced 360's(and it will be a lot more than $20K) . But again, what do I know?
I think the 350 block idea is good IF and only IF they will pump motors on a regular basis. If no one is going to tech them, might as well say goodbye to the class.

Exactly, why is everyone SCARED to run the race saver motors. Look at that program Smiley has in Texas. 30 some cars. Why do you want to follow Knoxville. Go talk to those 305 guys and see if they will tell you about the 20,000 dollar 305. Always somebody wanting to go blow the bank account on it and it hurts those that you want to get into the class .

So lets take a typical 305 sprint motor 3.796 bore, zero deck, flattop piston with 2 valve reliefs, 50 cc head, .04 head gasket
comp ratio= 39.36 + 0.0 + .195 + .527 + 3.05 DIVIDED BY 0.0 + .195 + .527 + 3.05= 11.43
Ok now keep everything the same except for the cylinder vol because that is all that will change. so 4.00 bore and 3.00 stroke.
comp ratio= 37.680 + .195 + .527 + 3.05 DIVIDED BY 0.0 + .195 + .527 + 3.05=10.98
So it is almost exaclty .5 less like I said earlier. The swept volume of the 4.00 bore motor is actually smaller than the 305 because the stroke is so much shorter. So before you go calling me Jethro next time do the math(if you can) other than going by what a catalog says.

thankyou d12..you must use the same calculator as me..and yes it will lower compression...and there are so many 350 blocks available that it will keep this class running for years to come..and to the b5 dart blocks have never been legal in this class..oops

Still waiting,surely you made sure parts were readily available before you proposed rule changes.Anyone can easily buy hyper or forged flat top pistons for a true 305 from KB-Icon,Weisco,JE,and on and on.Tell us all about these 302 pistons and who all makes them would you?
