LOVE IT I too just sent Bruce Hoyes a message on Facebook, given the circumstances I felt I was rather nice about it giving him advice on maybe he learned a lesson how to act in public! He really can't be that smart pretty much no security blocks on his page!

I've been to more than one track that reserved family sections and they are great. It does require some level of enforcement, but not a ton. It's definitely doable, and Knoxville, the supposed king of the sport, should have been a trend-setter on this point, not a do-nothing, run-of-the-mill promoted track. The place houses the hall of fame and the sport's biggest race. With all of that comes the responsibility to do all it better than everyone else.

So, how do you propose they displace all those people that have been loyal customers for years and years (the entire grandstand is reserved, this makes it very difficult to just swoop in and change the rules). So, I sit in row 26 (on the aisle), you now make my section non-drinking even though I've sat there for 20 years (or more). If I have to move to a different section, I won't get aisle seats (especially not that high).

That is the issue, It's easy to add a family section when it's not reserved seating or it's a "new grandstand". Very difficult to do retractively (some people have been coming to the Nationals for 52 years (they have been VERY LOYAL CUSTOMERS), do you piss off your loyal customer base?

Very tricky proposition in my estimation....

IF they were to add a family section the only FAIR way to do it would be EVERYBODY has to give up their current seats and re-order. That would be nothing but a mess and piss a lot of people off.

Knoxville does not need a family section. They just need the guys with a badge on a power trip to actually do something other than stand on the top walkway and give everybody grief that walks by.

As far as a drink limit goes, that would be a step in the wrong direction. You cannot control how much someone has drank before they get there. Plus, this would just encourage more people to try and sneak stuff in instead of buy it at the track.

There is no question that if the people around those guy's acted collectively the situation would have been dealt with one way or the other. I've told the story about how we manage to get 6 yahoos in the box seats at the Copper World Classic throw out for being jerks. I'm pretty sure they were lite up, and that along without having any open wheel type etiquette, and hey, they didn't even have to puke one someone and they were gone... All it took was for the people behind and around them to act together, and we did! I saw that same type of reaction to some jerks at Canyon last year, and it worked then too... I know, but them Missouri boy's some tickets for the USAC race that's coming up at Canyon and put em on a plane, and then we'll straighten their sorry ass's right up.LOL

Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

Vande, if other tracks and pro sports can do it, surely it's not too diffucult for Knoxville. Could a few people get displaced? I guess, but it's not uncommon to reseat some guests in sports venues. I've worked in the sports entertainment business for nearly 30 years. This is not a complicated process. I'm not even suggesting they need to be the premium seats, but rather an option. I appreciate your right as a loyal fan, but I also value the right of a family to attend the races free of the vomit and vulgarity that started this thread. Dirt track racing isn't viewed as the most fan-friendly enterprise out there, and shoring up some of this might help.

I would be a little pissy. My family has been sitting at the top of section I since they let people reserve Nationals tickets, and if they had a family section then it probably would end up being that section since it was on week nights. So, I would be displaced and pissed off.

I guess two spoil it for all. I would suggest designating a section or two and no drinking allowed in those sections. No smoking is the rule now anyway. Then, if one wants to drink in the stands they can change seat assignments or drink before, after, or go downstairs during intermissions. Might be a solution. We are in H at the top and I don't think anyone in our general area drinks up there anyways.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss

I actually feel sorry for Knoxville security. Last year people complained about overzealous policing, now people are complaining about too much leniency.

Damned if they do & damned if they don't, obviously we live in an imperfect world..... hope they can work this out....puke victims definitely have the right to be outraged....ggrrrr

If I recall correctly, the complaints I read about overzealous policing occurred outside the track gates, not inside them

Agree with all points.

But, from what every post is saying, Security was only alerted once, not twice. My guess is that the second complaint would have drawn in the Sherriff's department. Fist offense must have been a warning.

I am not faulting those sitting around the situation at all. However, if they don't speak up for the family when security is there (or go make a complaint as well), they might as well have been empty seats, they didn't do anything (like reporting the guys to security), they just sat there and watched...

It's a tough spot. Let's say I just don't like you (I don't even know your real name, so obviously I can't say I do or don't wink ), I go complain to security that your being obnoxious, rude, and you puked on your way up to your seat. Do you want to them to immediately call the Sherrif and have you escorted out, or should they go up there, talk to you and say we received a complaint about you specifically, if we receive another, you will be removed from teh premesis. I for one hope I get a warning first, someone might complain about me because I was wearing a (insert driver's name here) shirt and they don't like that guy.

I hope the Raceway adds in a texting feature like you see at almost all professional stadiums throughout the country, but the bottom line is those things cost $$ and in teh current economy and the fact that the track is more than likely losing $$ on every weekly show, it's not gonna be a quick fix (unless they can get Kenny's Bail Bonds or whoever it is that advertises on WHOTV to sponsor it (that would be a good tie-in don't you think)).

Laney alerted a sherriff, and bitchstack who was puked on alerted security, that's two.

That is correct, I did alert a sherif and he did come up. Only to leave without providing a solution.

There are some very simple things they can do without segregating the alcohol drinkers from the general population. 1. put a sheriff by the entrance to all beers stands. Have him/her watch for those that have been overserved and address those issues as they arise. 2. Take steps to reduce the amount of hard alcohol that makes it through the front gate. 3. Do a lot better job of following up on complaints in the stands. How about some plain clothed undercovers? Used to see them all the time at Soldier's field in Chicago. If you get complaints, place an undercover near the spot of the trouble to witness it first hand.

Seems like a lot of work and resources but would be 100 times easier and more accepted than changing the entire seating in the grandstands to segregate the drinkers. I drink 6-9 beers each of the 4 nights at the 410 nationals. So does my whole group. No one has puked, passed out, gotten in a fight or had a bad word with any fans or authority in 10 years. We just have a good time with our group and everyone around us. What the two jackasses in question did was totally unacceptable and does not represent the vast majority of those who did have alcohol in the stands. Let's not forget, they did not even buy alcohol at the race track. They snuck hard liquor in. They didn't even care what section they were in because they were already breaking the rules.

Top of I has drinkers but most stay 'regular'. We had a guy who got really really loud in years past but not anymore. This year I was surrounded by non talkers. It was like pulling teeth to see emotion from these people.
