FWIW, I like the coverage she gets because it's amusing to read how pissed off and upset some people get over a driver that supposedly doesn't matter.

To those who made comments about Dale Jr being overrated, I beg to differ… There is no question that Dale Jr is very, very popular, but I don't hear people talking about his extraordinary driving skill. Sure, most think he's capable of winning some races, but no one is suggesting that he's going to win 8 championships.
There's a difference between popular and overrated.

Not for nothing, but what exactly is any driver going to do when a car spins out in front of them going 190 at Daytona? A five time Cup champion spins out in front of her and the wreck is her fault?

yup two laps
two veteran drivers, one of them a five time champ couldn't keep their cars under control for more than two freakin laps.
you know, we have dave blaney, a sprint car champ who we all like and really want to see do well, who when you get right down to it hasn't really done much in the years he has been in cup. even when he had a good ride with RCR, and no one has a problem with that.
then we have a rookie driver who isn't expected to do anything but go out and run laps and try to get experience and everyone wants to bitch that she hasn't done anything and has no business in nascar.
talk about a double standard.
we all like blaney and he was a heck of a sprint car shoe, but when it has come to nascar, it is fair to say he hasn't done much. that is the truth. but no one rags all over him. but when it comes to danica you guys can't wait to fault her for anything, no matter if she deserves it or not. if danica was not a girl, you people wouldn't even give her a second thought. you are not going to give her a fair shot or any credit for anything she might do. i see no reason to hype her the way she gets hyped, but there is also no reason to bitch about her the way people do either.
one thing, i hope to hell blaney can win this 500. it would be great to see him finally get a win after all this time of trying. him and his team deserve it. they have been running good for some time now.
so now everyone can go ahead and start futhermuckin me. i'm done! lol.

Not expected to do much? DUDE! There were people writing and saying how she could WIN. Yes, WIN! All freaking week long. For all the attention she should have been able to somehow make her car airborne magically and just fly over all those guys ahead of her. OH - and why was she waaaaaaay back there in the first place? Oh that's right - she wrecked on Friday. She did as well all weekend as she'll do all year. Hell the race is over, it's 1:00 am there, she finished what - 38th? - and she is getting interviewed RIGHT now. Really? What about the 37 or so people who finished ahead of her. Freaking joke.

chris, you are listening to the media too much. they are the only ones hyping her.
her team doesn't expect her to do more than just learn. they set trying to finish in the top 25 as their starting goals. then they want to start finishing in the top 10-15. then they would like to start getting top 5's.
of course the media said she had a shot to win. she was in a good car and stranger things have happened. there were a lot of people who the media said had a shot to win that in reality were long shots.
she had to start in the back because she got taken out by the actions of a veteran driver and 500 winner, jamie mac in her qualifying race. it was an accident that was not her fault. she was in the top 10 at the time.
she got taken out tonight because mr five time couldn't hang onto his car after the same type of little bump that danica got from cole whitt in her nation wide race.
the only people who expect anything out of danica are the media who hype her and the nuts who listen to it.
in reality, she didn't do anything wrong all weekend and she just had a lot of bad racing luck.
it isn't even possible to give her bad marks on her race performance because she got taken out before she had a chance to screw up.
the one time she had a chance to perform without being crashed, she put her car on the pole for the nation wide race.
there were other people who had a bad speedweeks as well. jeff gordon crashed out of the shootout because he screwed up, then he blew up in the 500.
kurt busch didn't finish an event with out crashing either. i think the only blame you could put on him was moving up to block at the end of the nation wide race. shit just happens.
the thing is, if you are going to rag on danica that is fine. it would make more sense if there was a reason. i mean the whole darn weekend was a crash fest for all three series with veteran drivers making some dumb mistakes and you are stuck on picking on danica who happened to get caught up in other peoples mess.

Danica still has a great rear-end ... even if she had to get a new one installed tonight.... and after that she seemed to keep up with the rest of the kids - for the most part...

Exactly. Is she over-hyped? Of course. Based on her record, she would not be getting any publicity if she wasn't an atttractive woman. But I give credit to anyone brave (crazy?) enough to get in a 200mph race car with 40 other competitors. Plus a big $$ NASCAR team trusts her with their expensive car. Too much hype on both sides.
But like her or not, wishing for a crash is just wrong.

As the previous 4 days proved wishing is not necessary. Wishing or hoping may have been the wrong word. I always used to say jokingly during the Indy 500 "If Danica crashes can the Godaddy commercials stop being played?" As we now know at least that part of my question is not true.
