I would not be concerned with who is on or off of fairboard. I would be more concerned if they have new golf carts and ATVs for next year - I've never seen any of those athletes walk anywhere.

Seven of the eight elected members were incumbants. Robuck was the only one not re-elected. Does that tell anybody anything? Robuck should have been replaced years ago. He's been a long-standing joke both in the racing industry and in the community at-large.

It's good to see Knoxville is making changes that should have been done a long time ago.

I think the fairboard and the contracts to operate the track should be reviewed and an audit should be conducted to see if the long-rumored fiscal irregularities are fact.

There is in-fighting among the board members about the future operation of the track and the racing v. non-racing supporters on the board are beginning to reflect the desires of the general public in the county. Racing isn't going to get carte blanche like it has in the past.

I'm going to enjoy the show...it's been a long time coming and I'll look forward to seeing how it ends up over time.

btw...I voted and Robuck didn't get my support.

That was nasty

I don't agree with everything he has done but that was plain nasty and to put out like that

Very low class

Dwayne Robuck was not re elected. Over 30 years on the board. I would like to thank my father for all the years of service. Also thanks to all of his supporters and friends!

I for one want to thank Dwayne for his years of service. This past season was our first at Knoxville and Dwayne was this first to approach us and welcome us. He stopped by to talk each and every week and made us feel welcome and was more than helpful. Thanks Dwayne!! Curt & Rose Ness, Johnn Cressman 56JC

I was not trying to start a fairboard controversy. I really wanted to thank my dad for all he has done. As far as the board I wish them luck with the next several years. With the economy in the dirt, new management and a need for real insight to draw bigger crowds they really need to focus on positive changes. I don't believe we need more kinds of racing, they need to focus on the events they have, some upgrades, better advertisement and some staff changes.

Michael5z - If you just wanted to thank your Dad for his efforts, pick up a phone. Why in the world would you post on a message board and not expect comments both pro and con. Amazing!

I'm sure with the amount of Revenue that they have, that an audit is a mandatory yearly part of their taxes by state and federal tax rules.

Mr. Robuck is a good guy.. He once told me he had missed only 1 race in 40 years. If you had a problem he would try to help you out as best he couldI do not know why any one would bring up tracks money because Robuck had nothing to do with money. Robuck is a great guy and we will miss him at the track. One of his big jobs was getting prize items for drivers at banquet.

As usaul you notice they never put thier real names on thier foul comments. as far I i'm concerned if you aren't proud of what you have to write on here why would we put value on your opinion? Funny thing I noticed while competing at Knoxville last year was i never heard complaints about Dwayne or any other officials for that matter from fellow racers. The reason being is "most" of us take our dislikes directly to the party we have the issues with, not talk about them on the forums. jmo,Have a nice day. The only athletic activity Cappy, Robuck and company have done in the last 30 years is bending their elbow to get booze up to their mouths. I doubt those guys have walked 50 yards at a time since the Carter administation.

Times are changing...finally!

Myself, I really don't know either personally.

I've have talked over the years to 30+ year (???) ex-racer/owner that was from Newton and he never had a bad word to say about either of the above (in fact couldn't have bragged on them more.)

As far as 'walking' neither one are spring chickens anymore and both have their health issues.

I think you are dead wrong in your critique of these two.

I for one am sad to see guys like Robuck go. He has not always been the easiest to see eye to eye with but I respect him for that because of his passion for the sport. There are to many of them that don't have any passion, for racing or the fair. I'm confident that the guy replacing Dwayne will do an outstanding job as he is not afraid to work and do the right thing. As far as vanh asked earlier, am I calling them theives. To a certain degree yes. Not all of them, but there is alot of very questionable things that I don't agree with. Which I'm sure happens in every major business, but the race track is just one in which I'm passionate. And yes I have had several long conversations with many fairboard members and Cappy about these things. So I am not just getting on here venting. I have voiced my side to those that are involved. I think there are alot of people that are kept in the dark on how this raceway is actually run. Alot of secrets for a county property. I wish Dwayne luck in whatever is next and to the new member. Also to Toby. Knoxville raceway is like the US gov't, it is the best one in the world, but the deeper you try to look the scarier it gets.

Duane has been a fixture at Knoxville for as long as I can remember and has done alot for anyone that raced there. I know he sacraficed a lot of time and effort.

IMO...the bigger question should be if not him....WHO GOT IN?

From the Journal Express:

Knoxville — The Marion County Fair Board held its annual election last night, and there will be one new member on the board. Dan Findley was nominated from the floor at last night's election, held at Dyer-Hudson Hall on the Marion County Fairgrounds. At least 152 eligible voters took part in the election. Voters were required to have registered in advance to vote, and must own property or a business in Marion County to be eligible to vote. There were eight seats up for election on the board. Members seeking reelection included Mark Drost, Terry Harvey, Roy Jahner, Jason Reed, Ron Rees, Dwayne Robuck, Bob Roush and Alan Ver Steeg. All of them were reelected, with the exception of Robuck. Robuck received only 77 votes, versus Findley's 95.

The unofficial vote tally:

Harvey, 152 votes

Reed, 152 votes

Roush, 149 votes

Jahner, 142 votes

Rees, 141 votes

Ver Steeg, 132 votes

Drost, 129 votes

Findley, 95 votes

Robuck, 77 votes

Rick Konrad (also nominated from the floor), 47 votes

"The public opinion voted the way that they should be," Board President Terry Harvey told the Journal-Express, the only media outlet that covered the election. The fair board is responsible for overseeing operations on the fairgrounds, as well as the Knoxville Raceway. Board members are elected to three-year terms. Following the election, the board held its regular meeting. Officers for the coming year were elected. Nominations for the offices were taken from board members. Bob Riggen was elected the next president over Grant Rankin, by a vote of 12-10. Rankin was elected vice president, by a vote of 14-7 over Dennis Haselhuhn. Reed was unanimously elected Board Secretary. Harvey was elected to be the next treasurer, defeating Gary Verwers and Rees. Vote tally for treasuer was 11 for Harvey, seven for Verwers and five for Rees. The fair board regularly meets the first Monday of every month.
