Just exactly what does MW305 bring to the table? They only have a couple real MW305 shows a year, im not counting the shows that are going on as scheduled and somebody just calls them a "MW305" race, and they have a minimal following. MW305 shows get 9 to 12 cars at an event. Knoxville gets 18 to 30 cars a show and they area the ones doing things wrong? Sorry for the mud thrown but I'm sick of listening to the whining.
|
I think they are trying to get a uniform set of rules just to promote the class(not whining). I don't think the class is thriving anywhere including Knoxville. I think most racers would get behind it. I am pretty sure the original purpose of this class wasn't for the racers to have 20k stuck in a motor. Most would move up a class if that were the case. Just an opinion from someone who doesn't matter!

Herman 327, you are correct. We just want to promote the 305's as an economical as possible, form of racing sprint cars. If we can get the engine rules universal and hold the costs as low as we can, the future stars of our sport can get a place to start their racing careers, without breaking your bank account. I know the negitive crowd that says it can't be done, but we will never know unless we try. It may have to come in "baby steps" but it can be done. Thanks to all who will help us grow our class!
WE CAN DO IT !!!

How do you figure that 305 are falling of the face of the earth. They are doing well in kansas and colorado witht the URSS. Spec heads, spec tire and spec wing. Putting the 3 X 5 wing on the cars will help save engines and make a better driver out of anyone. The big can make any crappy driver look good and fast cause the lock the car down.

I am replying to a few different posts here, so please bear with me.
As for needing to get all the cars on the same rule book, I definitely agree. That is 1 thing ASCS has been successful at doing, there are a lot of cars and tracks running the same rules. But don't try to sell it as making the class cheaper, as ASCS will show, that does NOT work. It normally makes it more expensive to run.
When I said teams would but toters and big trailers, I wasn't saying they would be faster because of it. I just made a point that trying to prevent over spending will not happen. If they can't spend it on the car, it will be spent on trucks, trailers, and pit mules. Teams will spend as much as they want, it won't be controlled by rules.
The 16 ft wings are just not the way to go in my opinion, they are not easy to find. I can find 25 ft wings used all day long on the classifieds. I think there is one 16ft on there right now and it was an external runner. If I want to buy a new one, yes they are available. But I thought we were trying to control cost with the rules? A new wing is not as cheap as a used wing.
A couple people have hit the nail on the head. Make all the rules you want, make the rule book 500 pages long and regulate everything on the car. If the tracks aren't going to tech, it is just a waste of time.......

the midwest 305 guys do have 10 to 14 cars at knoxville every race, so take them out and the knoxville numbers would not look so good ..trying to improve the 305 class by getting everyone on the same page seems to me to be a great way to go..and if the mw guys can pull this together everyone will surely benifit from it

are the engine rules going to change any for knoxville or mw305 for this coming year 2012? will we have to tear our engines apart to race this spring? or will any rule changes that happen will be for 2013?

leeman, the MW 305 club sets its rules for 2 years. The meeting we are having on Sunday, the 6th, is to review all of the rules and set them in place for the 2012 & 2013 seasons. We will work to reduce the cost of racing! A tough goal, but it can be done!!!

I don't have a dog in this fight but the times I have seen the 305's they can barely pull the small wing so it would be hard for me to believe a bigger wing is a good idea. If it were up to me the 305's would be a wingless class....

But if you read my post again, you will notice I wasn't talking about whether or not they NEED the big wing, just that the COST of the small wing will be higher as there are none easy to find. A new 16ft wing is more expensive than a used 25ft wing.....This thread was about cost, not performance. I don't know what series you are used to watching, but around here, we do just fine with the big wings.

All I have heard rumor of is Knoxville cutting out the drysumps. Don't really know why they would, but that is the only one I have heard.

The 305 class has engine spec rules. Nothing needs changed . just enforced. I dont think burlington has ever checked block numbers. There tech is bare minimal . there has been cars running engines that would not pass a head inspection if they had to . Yet alone look in the oil pan inspection hole. Pull a mag and look for a roller. its a pretty sad deal , But what do you do. Let the car sit, Good idea. Mine is for sale. And its legal . runs real good.

Just because you cant beat somebody doesn't mean they are cheating. MOST of the time it means that they have done their homework and that they are more prepared then their competition. The most prepared will be faster then the not prepared 99% of the time. Don't make acquisitions on drivers just because they pass cars and win. I have watched many drivers over my 30 years as a fan of sprint car racing. Don't hate a guy for putting his heart and soul into his team. Just my two cents.
"The winner ain't the one with the fastest car, it's
the one who refuses to lose."

Honest question from a fan: Which one is easier on the wallet? buying a used 25 sq ft wing, or buying a new 16 sq ft wing, and (presumably) saving wear and tear on engines and tires?

I have to agree with pureoutlaw. A well set up car with a good driver will look like it has a lot more power than a more powerful car that doesn't keep up it's momentum. I say this from experience, I have made good engines look bad, and weak engines look good. I just don't blame my lack of performance on the engine when the problem is me not driving the car, or blowing the set up. Of course in the 305, the car barely has the power to pull the big wing to begin with, so there may be no overcoming a lack of HP.

The cheapest and easiest way would be to run 1 7/8 or 2 inch restricters in the injection. It would be easy to tech and guys wouldnt have to spend a ton of money on an engine.

what I was saying is pureoutlaw. That the tech is minimal at 34. It had nothing to do with someone beating us. We know set up and I have a very good driver. The engine runs great. It has to do with tech. The rules are there, But not enforced. I have fun at the track no matter where we place. We mostly run great unless some stupid bad luck gets us. It is a tech issue pureoutlaw. No excuses were used, pureoutlaw. Build the motor to the rules pretty simple. If you do that I really dont think you will have 20 grand in it like some say they have.

Post on forum is not the way. You should call all tracks and org.s that run 305 and get everyone in same place at same time like the spritcar hall of fame. They might be able to help.has anyone priced a racersaver motor. Bad thing about them you can't do nothing to them can't even run valves on them .

WELL SAID PUREOUTLAW...
Hey Troy, FYI...our car has had block numbers checked, mag and injection pulled and even the inspection plug pulled this year. Your car has never been inspected and you are hearing rumors that others are saying. But since you gave up and all you wanna do is bitch because your getting beat dont blame tracks and other cars that are legal. Feature wins and championships are won with good equipment, driver, crew that maintains the car each and every week. (which you lack)!! So losing drivelines during a race or somebody does a "so called illegal slidejob" on your driver dont use the excuse they are cheating. People like you that are not even racing should have no input on this issue........until you get your car out and put a booster seat in it and try it for yourself............ then speak your mind. Put your money up to protest because I will take that money and that will give you something else to post and complain about.
