Anyone else upset by the Knoxville video screen being used for advertising instead of race coverage during the feature last Saturday night? Many in the pits rely on that thing and were very frustrated that advertising was being displayed instead of racing. Geez!

I hate it when race tracks use their equipment to plug sponsors that help make the race happen. How dare they!! Maybe we should just do away with sponsors all together. Then we would not have to worry about them getting in the way of seeing the racing action. (sarcasm)

Sorry I don't get the sarcasm. I understand that tracks need to pimp their products, but they put that board up there to show the races. It is ok to show advertisements in down time, but now during the races.

They usually do a pretty fair job showing replays but I don't see the point in having the race on screen while people are watching it live from the stands. I've never heard that it was intended to be a "Jumbotron" for people in the pits. I'm also guessing that they make some decent $ for the ad's which contributes to the point fund..which helps the car count...which draws more fans...which also helps keep ticket prices very fair for a great show. In the pits the best you can do is find a pick-up or open spot and see what you can.

You beat me to it!!! Please everyone see my earlier thread titled "sick of hearing everyone complaining about their tracks." This hits it right on the head. I am not against a little constructive criticism, but i would have to say they likely put the big screen up there for the exact reason they are using it. WOW!! All of the sponsor plugs I have watched on that thing, and not a one of them has ever gotten on my nerves. I must have a lot more tolerance for things that help bring me great entertainment.

Best one I ever saw was a promoter placing HUGE billboards between the front stretch and the pits.(They were in the infield). You should have heard the howling that nite.

You can't see the damn thing from the stands any way.

So who cares what they put on it?

Yes, you are correct. That is exactly why they put the big screen up. Just so everybody who can see the whole track from their seat can watch two cars race side by side on the big screen while the race is going on. (again, sarcasm).

I never went to a dirt track race to watch the race on tv. It's not like the track is so large you can't see the whole thing.

As far as being in the pits go, what do you do at the other 199,257 dirt tracks that do not have a big screen? Oh, wait, that number is now 199,248 because nine tracks just shut down do to lack of funds and sponsorship. (again, sarcasm).

Some people would piss and moan if their sh*t smelt like roses.

Considering it only works 20% of the time i'd say its main purpose is to keep mud from landing

on cars parked behind turns 3 & 4.

I personally look at it just to see if they have some (Family friendly soft core porn) (Major sarcasm!)

As a native, my big problem is not the adds....mine is the fact it is a multi million jumbo tron and yet....since day one.....a programmer can't get the damn thing to put the end of the race finish in order. I still wonder what it says. Like he sponsors are perfect but running orders... they glitch. and have been for 10 years

It all ends up with 1-3 perfect.............-4-7 not in a column (but close)........ and 8-anything else totally OFFFFF!

It seems like a glitch they haven't fixed since put the thing up.....SORRY, it annoys me every time I come home!

As someone who has spent quite a bit of the last 5 years in the pits at Knoxville I do agree that the big screen is utilized by the crew and drivers in the pits more than it probably is for the crowd in the stands. Knoxville is one of the few facilities that has the ability to allow crew to stand on top of their trailers to view the races but they will not allow it. I assume it is so the flag man doesn't get distracted by bodies on top of the trailers...I too have sat in the stands and feel that the trailers don't hinder the view any unless they have to park them along the back stretch. We all know that Knoxville has some of the best Flagging and support crew around the track. I can guarantee that the Clarks can't see the entire track at all times and rely on their support crew for many of the calls.

Why not let the crew watch on top of the trailers...then you can advertize all you want on the big screen? Then you won't piss off the crew that pays twice as much to work in the infield and help their friend race and would like to watch the additional races that are run each night? Just my 2c.

If people are watching advertisements during the races Knoxville has more to worry about than what's on the big screen. When was the last time you said I wish this race would go under red so I can hear the rest of that Bud Light commercial. I'm sure when Anheiser set up a marketing contract with Knoxville they asked that their commercial be played during the races. Instead of focusing on sarcasm try using a little realism. They are used for advertisements, but not during a race. Most drivers stand in turns 3 and 4 so they can see that side of the track plus the other side of it with help from the big screen.

I don't go to sprint car races at Knoxville to watch tv. I watch the race.

About the only time I look at the big screen is to see a replay they may be showing.

If this is the only thing you have to complain about at Knoxville, then they are doing a damn good job on Saturday nights.
