I'm looking to upgrade our -12 head motor to an All Pro or Brodix GB and wanted to know which is better. We run mostly 1/4 to 3/8 mile tracks with one or two half mile races a season. The track surfaces range from very tacky to very slick. I'd like a motor that will be able to keep up with everyone when the track is heavy but still be able to pedal it and get traction when the track slicks off. Something with at least 860hp would be nice.

I've also been told to stay away from motors with the big 2.90 and 3.00 injections because they tend to have a big jump in power instead of a smooth distribution.

Is there anyway to get the motor I want, with an affordable price and what should I be looking for?

Thank You for your help

I'd call a motor builder, like Wesmar, Ott, or Kistler.....they know what's going on....

Im going through this same ordeal, same track sizes ect, within the past few weeks Ive found only more questions? with the smaller tracks we run most frequently, why do I need to spend a additional $3-5K on a "up to date" top end (head upgrades) to achive more power? then , (my luck) im going to get to the track and see the dam thing dry out anyway, so 800hp? or maybe 600hp?? is going to be all the track can take! the head upgrade sounds appetizeing untill you factor in injection to the costs also, obviously injection is better and the old -12 stuff is a dust collector on the shelf with the heads.. now were stepping into $8-10k , why stop there ? I better get he newest magneto! bigger pump!, Oe and carbon fiber airbox! , cool air! ,more nozzels! ,trick headers! anodize this anodize that ! nothing from my -12 is the same anymore! geesh, how does a guy stop?, Im only factoring in this beast will need to strech its legs on a 1/2 mile. I hope then, I put my money in the right place? My understanding is, the 280-2 is a bit large but tolerable , I would only assume your engine builder could cam this top end correctly , for driveability , I feel your frustration!

If you go with bigger heads and injection you also have to factor in that the engine builder will want to see the motor back for freshening after 12 nights.
