What is a slidejob? What is the difference between a clean slidejob and a dirty slidejob? Is it the car getting slided on the outside his job to lift or hold his line and momentum? all opinions are wanted thank you!!

A slidejob is when the fans cheer and raise their fists in jubilation.

Someone successfully driving around the outside of an attempted slide job is when the fans come to their feet and it gets noisy.

A car in the wall because neither would lift makes for a quiet moment from the crowd and lots of Monday morning m/b posts.

If this is about the non-wing race at CG, that was not a slide job or even an attempted slide job. That was a move-over.

If this is about the ASCS race at Elma it was one of the best nights of racing by the local/region drivers that track has ever seen.

All just my opinion.

The difference between a clean slider and a dirty one is always gonna come down to opinion and I don't think you'll ever be able to put a definition on it. However I'll try. LOL I think that if the guy pulling the slidejob clears the car in front of him with enough space inbetween that the guy doesn't have to do anything drastic to avoid contact, then it is a clean slider. I don't think it's ever the guy being slids responsibility to lift to avoid being hit, rather it's the guy pulling the sliders responsibility to lift if he's not gonna clear. The slidee also shouldn't have to slam on the brakes to avoid running over the slider either.

Forcing someone to lift is ok, but every one being done is going to get a different response. its all perceived by the people doing it and having it done to them, with that said, if its the last lap pretty much all bets are off usually. doesn't mean someone won't get a beating afterward either though... some people just get pissed off when faced with the realization they will have to lift to avoid contact on the outside. a successful slide mean you force the guy outside to lift or close the gap enough so he cant drive back around the outside as well. but every situation is different.

That was pretty cool. Looked a lot like the heat race between Brian Brown and jack Dover at Wheatland last fall.

well put. The clean slide job is the one that gets the slider the spot. It makes no difference who had to lift. If you pull it off, it was a successful, clean, slide job. But if you forced the other guy to lift, be prepared to do the same for him at a later date and time. (possibly the next corner) Got nothing to do with anyones feelings. So from a rules standpoint, no official rule or description needed!!

Having been on both sides of both good and bad slide jobs, here is my take on it....

If you are attempting to overtake a car running the top of the race track in front of you, and you enter the corner on the bottom of the race track and let the car slide up to the cushion in FRONT of the car you are passing, that is a slidejob. The key here is actually being in front of the car. Your rear nerf bar should be in front of the front bumper of the car you are slidejobbing before you get to the cushion. Now, there is plenty of room for "grey area" here. And it's the official's job to make calls if and only if they actually saw the move with their own eyes.

Examples of what is a BAD slidejob:

  1. If your RR tire flat wheels the LF tire of the car you are trying to slide, that's your fault and is a bad slidejob. This was the case at Calistoga on the first night with Alex Schutte trying to attempt a slide job for the lead on Robby Josett, the eventual winner.   2. If you try to slidjob a car and are rapidly approaching the left side nerf of the car being passed, and he has to slow up to avoid disaster, then it's your fault and is a bad slidejob. This is perhaps the most obvious situation.
  3. It is never acceptable to attempt a slidejob which forces a guy to go over the cushion to avoid the skud missle that is your race car. If you want to slidejob a car, then enter low enough and with enough speed to end up in front of the car, not into the side of him.

Examples of what is acceptable:

  1. If you slide a car, and you clear him, but in the process you lose your momentum going through the corner there is a few things that can happen. First of all, obviously you are forcing the guy to slow down to not get into your REAR NERF. In many cases, the car being slid will not slow down and either run into the back of you which can spin you out, or get you out of shape.
  2. Sometimes if the guy has half a brain and there is room, he will cross over on you and pass you back which as long as the initial slidejob was cleared, is good racing.
  3. In the worst case scenario the car being slid will not slow down or not have time to slow down and even though he was cleared by the slidejob, his LF tire will run into the back of the RR tire of the slider and the rest is usually ugly. This is when it is the official's job to make a judgement call.
  4. To me, as long as the car doing the slidejob does not make contact with the car being slid before he slides up in front of him, it is a clean slidejob despite both cars potentially losing momentum. And in this case, it is the job of the car being slid to slow down. In most cases you can either hear or see or both a car coming in for a slider, allowing ample time for you to slow down and cross over or at least slow enough to avoid disaster.
