So will they refund the money to the people who bought Gold Cup tickets when the Outlaws don't show?

I attended both nights and I do agree the admission was a little pricey but there was also a lot of racing.Thought about going to Placerville on Saturday, glad I didn't. 22 cars there, 3 heats, 1dash, 1 main and done before 9:00.
I went to the Civil War race in Placerville the week before and talk about lines at the concession. You had to wait 30-45 minutes to get any food. Marysville isn't any better, the wait times are worse when they have big crowds.
My biggest complaint at Chico is the flag man. He doesn't pay attention, has to be told by the officials to throw a yellow/red because he isn't watching what is going on. At Saturday's race I feel the flag man let the cars run too many hot laps and the track dried out in 3 & 4.
I also agree that the crowds were small both nights.

Plus the show was run against what has 2 be considered California's best touring series, season opener at Placerville Speedway. I attended P-ville, and the crowd was large, but not anywhere as big as expected.

Do you realize how much the fire crew gets paid???? $000000
You expect these guys to risk there life and get zero? Maybe Handy needs to pay them like all the other officials and quit bein cheap! As far as the tow truck...heard it had no brakes and is on its last leg...you would think they might have a quality tow rig just in case no other "free" tow trucks show up
Did you look at the pay for the rest of the divisions? The wingless and mods got I believe $200 for 5th and $100 to start...who can race and pay $40 at the back gate and get 100 to start? I believe they paid more money but it went all to the 360's.
I think it is great that they have a bbq now...but you would think they might have a few dogs and burgers cooking instead of making everyone wait for 10 mins and missing races...what happens when 50 people come down on a break...alot of races will be missed = pissed off fans.
$20 and $25 is way too expensive and the fan base showed....the bleachers were empty and the stands lacked alot. Yes it was cold but many people cannot afford $50 for 2 nights of racing.
|
want to talk about risking your life for nothing? talk to the drivers who take more of a chance than anyone and get less for it. everyone is trying to make money off racing and the last people they seem to think about are the ones putting on the show. if the safety crew is not going to do the job they are expected to, no matter how much they are paid, they are not much use. the worst thing next to no saftey crew is one you think will help you, then doesn't. this isn't a stab at chico, it is a stab at people who try to make the racer just as big a customer as the fans in the stands. when are tracks around here going to start thinking of ways to get some money into the hands of the teams. the racer is the first one that gets charged or pays fees, but the last one to be thought of when it comes to getting paid for their efforts. i hear promoters speak about cost effective and it just doesn't pay to do this or that. well, how cost effective is it to race at your track?

Why the concrete wall in the infield? Look like an accident waiting to happen.

Maybe to offer some protection to the safety personnel who are stationed there during the races.....No protection there is an accident waiting to happen, IMO.

Jackhammer: Please put this ad in the newspaper and see how many responses you get...
Fire Safety Crew needed, you will be expected to dodge race cars especially if there is a wreck becuase the driver could care less what a red flag means...except to drive past the wreck and hear your crew tell you how good you are doing . You will have to possibly fight a fire with old outdated equipment and a single layer fire suit as your protection. You will get paid nothing but you get to watch some racing. By the way...the officials all get paid money to point fingers at drivers and yell and scream at them and "run the show" but you are risking your life so you deserve nothing.
You are right...racers do not get enough money for racing...look at the modified and wingless payout...total JUNK! The solution would be for drivers to get together and boycott until more money is paid,...will that happen?? NEVER!
The track will say they didnt have very many fans in the stands and didnt make a profit...why?? Maybe due to the cost of admission?? Unemployment is at an all time high and most companies are slashing costs to customers to lure them in...what does a race track do??? Lets raise the prices cause we think we can. Is this a value added service that people cant live without??? NO! So we all have to be creative to get NEW customers to the track...not just expect the same people to continue going every week!

The best NEW customers are kids. Everyone i know, including myself, were taken to a race at a young age (4 yrs. for me) and were awestruck and mesmerized by the cars and drivers. The result? Drivers became instant heroes! Then the next thing you know, passion takes over, years pass, and it has become part of (or in some cases, all of) your life. The problem is, a typical family (4 people) can't afford to attend the races like they used to, even if we had a good economy. The potential for NEW customers is almost non-existent. Admission prices have almost doubled in the last 10-12 years. Something needs to be done!
SUPPORT WILDLIFE, go to a sprint car race!

After reading all the responses to my post weeks ago, I thought I would give Silver Dollar another chance, but apparently they are not really trying to put on races in Chico any more. If it rains on a Tuesday, they can't race on a Friday.
Another rain out. Two weeks in a row. This time, they call it on a Wednesday? Did this thread so demoralise Chico's management that they are scared to even try to put on a show? Placerville got in a race under threatening skies two weeks ago that looked like it should have been called off but wasn't.
Has Chico become the red headed step child, replaced in priority by Placerville? Maybe two tracks is just too much for Handy to handle.
The monster truck show three weeks ago sold out, and they had to turn people away. How sad is it that real competition, where racers throw down to see who is the fastest is losing out to the professional wrestling of motorsports? Maybe monster trucks have better promotion.
The pit area is now "Lake Chico" because the monster truck promoters ripped off the top few inches of the pits to build the monster truck course, so now, if it rains just a little, they can't race. Hope that one week payday was worth all the no money rain out weekends for the fairgrounds.
So if it's the monster truck guy's fault for problems with water in the pits, how can we blame handy?
Here's why: When John Padgen was in charge, he would go to events he was not in charge of and make sure the other promoters didn't do anything that would mess up his track. I don't know if Handy was there during the monster trucks or not. If not, he should have been. If he was, he let his facility to get thrashed.
It's easy to critisize promoters when you are not one, and I am not one. What I am is a fan. That means that I am a cutomer.
Right now I am not a happy customer, and I am taking my business elsewhere until Silver Dollar presents a product that I want to purchase (a race). I used to drive right by Marysville on my way to Chico beacause Maryville's product was inferior to Silver Dollar's. Now, Marysville is working harder for my business.
Being a promoter is not easy. I get that. I also don't want to be stiring up crap for the sake of being a bitch. Why I posted to begin with was because I love Silver Dollar and don't want to see it fail. I hope that this is constructive critisism.

i never said anything about racing cars being cost effective. i said that promoters don't always do things that could help fans and teams and use the excuse that it is not cost effective for them (the promoter) and who says you have to do something for a living in order to try to make anything cost effective? if most racers are hobby racers, then you would think they would be even more conserned with costs. promoters are raising entry costs for fans and teams, as well as membership costs. teams are paying to reserve pit spots, and the payouts are what they have always been. promoters complain it costs them more to operate, i understand that, but don't they think it costs the teams more to operate? and everyone coplains there are not enough cars at races! DUH!!!

I have been attending races at SDS for 28 years now and been a crew member for the last 14. As long as I have understood the politics of racing at SDS there has been a majority of people that couldn't wait for the day the JPM would be gone and with the impressive rise of placerville under Handys promotion we all thought that SDS would be great again. Well let me be the first to say bring back JPM. John would never cancel a race on a wed. at 10am when by 5 it was 70 degrees with partly cloudy skies and today was almost 80 degrees with a breeze and weather report for friday is the same as today. Maybe last week we could have raced if the powers that be gave a shit about what used to be and should still be a premier track in california. No he cares more about placerville so he would rather work on that all week and wait till friday morning to get chico ready. Maybe its time to get some promoters instead of collectors to monopolize california sprint car racing. I'd say its about time John Prentice (Watsonville) gets a 410 deal started and compete against Golden State. Hell he already has Brent, Bud, Statler, and Suggs on Fridays, so he gets JA and there goes Golden State. Its just sad to watch something suffer and Silver Dollar is suffering, Either shoot it in the FU@@ING head and let it Die or revive it. But to revive it Alan might have to have his easy money (Pville) play second fiddle for a while. Just remember promoters, the back gate wont pay the purse anymore (except chico where you dont get paid shit unless you win) so you better put some asses in the stands cause the more you try to charge the racer to pay his own purse the less cars your gonna get.

Don't thrill yourself. I'd bet the people that run this track never read these threads and don't care to. Racers and track owners are too busy to concern themselves with racing forums and people's opinions. Racing forums are for fans who have too much time on their hands and like to complain.

a lot of bitching. that is whats killing silver dollar. all bitching nobody offering any realistic solutions, and instead of airing out a bunch of shit on here, get ahold of handy himself or at least his office. ya because all of this bitching will help the situation right. hahahaha well, ill be in the stands at the next silver dollar race, ya it m ight be thinner crowd than usual, but i will do my best to support the track and be POSITIVE and attempt to ride this out.
f-in children hahaha
